Thanks for all the advice and comments everyone. I should have been clearer, when I said travel video, I meant making projects while I travel, most are narrative based and as someone that has come from a BMCC, the image is so important to me. Nearly every thing I do is narrative. For example here is some of my stuff www.chriscory.co.uk Of course the BMCC is much more portable then people think and with the BMCC speed booster, is usable in lower light, but you still need to attach a monitor to it a lot of the time and it does not have any more frame rates. Its really interesting what you guys are saying about the GH5s, is the image really that much better? I have really really tried to like the GH5, but I just could not get excited for the image, it was really good, but it just didn't do it for me. The camera itself ticks so many boxes other wise. Does the Gh5s hold up to the 1dc image wise? Chris

Hi everyone About two weeks ago, I purchased a 1dx Mark ii for travel video. I am really liking the image so far, dynamic range can be bit of an issue though. Are there any users on here that have used the 1dx Mark ii and the 1dc? How does the image compare between the two cameras? Would It have been better If I had got a 1dc for video work? I am well aware of the features, and advantages of each camera slow motion, used price, auto focus, etc. My questions is purely about the image quality of the two cameras. Cheers Chris

Thanks hyalinejim. The noise is very noticeably worse in resolve, though i'm doing a few tests now. So in the ACR box, i literally touch nothing? (apart from maybe WB tweek) just select cinelog and then export. I have been using 4444 and 4444xq as an export from AE, do you have the Gamma at automatic or switch it to none? Thanks Chris

Smart import 2 is amazing! Thankyou for recommending it, its solved all the main issues I had! Such an awesome script! With Cinelog, so you buy it, install it, it appears in the camera profile section in ACR. Then just select it, export as normal. Then I can open the files in resolve and grade the cinelog. Is that right? Thanks

The render times have decreased noticeably and the UI performance, seems faster. You say you are pretty comfortable with ACR. Whats your workflow? Do you know of a way to preview a frame other then the first one? I have been using ACR with AE and making a comp for each shot then rendering, is that fastest way? And recommendations on avoiding flicker with the ACR controls? Thanks for the compliments jonpais, made me smile. Really happy you liked them. Thanks for the advice everyone. With AE, how do you avoid flicker? I've noticed some of the controls can make the image flicker a little. Does anyone have any workflow recommendations for AE? Like is there anyway to see a diffrent frame in ACR, not just the first one? So far I have been processing the shot with ACR in AE, then adding each shot to a separate comp, then rendering each comp, is there a faster way?

Thanks Mercer . What's the new footage app called? any resolve settings you reccomed? Ive been noticing better colours and better shadow noise in Ae with acr, but these are early tests . So hopefully there is a way to improve this in resolve.

Thanks. after a brief test, I have noticed the colours seem better from Acr and the noise in the shadows seems much better. is there any way to match that quality in resolve? or a way to make Acr less of a pain to work with?

Mercer. What are you using to process your dng's? Resolve or Ae? or something else?

Thanks Jimmy. So are you using ARC through after effects? What do you use to convert the MLV's? In the past I used Rawmagic, though I have started using MLVFS.

Most other footage I have found on the GH5 seems to sharp for me. And I have noticed some weird haze on some of the highlights. But not on your comparison. Is there any specific things your are doing with the camera to achieve that?

The thing is for me is before the choice was pretty easy, in my sort of price range, i had to pick between usability or top image quality. Blackmagic or Magic lantern vs Sony A7s Gh4..etc All great cameras but it was pretty much 8bit codecs or harder to use systems. (This of course does not include higher priced systems or adding external recorders) But my thoughts on the GH5 is it seems like the difference is getting smaller. Before with something like the GH4, the colour science was not quite for me (i had it pre- VLOG) and the internal codec was too compressed. But with the GH5, better colours then before, VLOG, better codecs and soon to improved 400m codec. I feel the gap is closing (Of course raw is raw and I much prefer shooting raw). I suppose my main concern is I loved the organic character i got with the BMCC and the 5d raw. Will I be able to get this with the GH5? hyalinejim Thanks again for your detailed reply, I looked at the video comparison you put up, you really made the GH5 sing, one of the best examples I have seen so far. Do you have any other videos you shot on the GH5? Love to see one. Also how is the GH5 in the shadows? With the BMCC I was confident with the highlights. WIth 5d, I wasnt as much so I protected them a little more, knowing the shadows would be ok.

Thanks for the response! I have seen alot of highlight clipping in the footage I have seen online, how have you found it and how does it compare to the 5d? How have you found the IBIS on non IS lenses, so using more vintage lenses? With the GH5 a lot of the images I have seen, seem really sharp! I always like the softer more organic look of the 5d. What are you thoughts on that? Is the VLOG update worth it? Raw has the ability for strong grading, but do you feel that if you were filming something that you would normally shoot on your 5d, on GH5 do feel you could get that same quality of image? Or do you think to yourself "the 5d would have got me a better image" Thanks

Has anyone used both 5d Mark iii Raw and the Gh5 for video work? Im going to buy one but I cant decide which? I had a Blackmagic Cinema Camera which i sold, though I loved the image! I had a Sony 6300 which I sold, im not getting on with Sonys that much. Im seeing some really good footage with the Gh5. But I still keep coming back to Canon ML raw, which has such a great image. So do I go for a Gh5 with a speed booster or a 5d mark iii?? Thanks Chris
