Based on the songs rank, it appears the damned have quite a few fans. Who are you/I/we to judge a multitude on their intellect or taste? What I find intriguing is why the continual discussion, excitement, arguement etc... about new cameras if Oliver is correct? Or why those like Juan Melara, continue to lug around beastly monstrosities costing small fortunes? I like the gh series cams as much as the next, but what is it about the current crop of smaller/budget cam shooters constantly reminding everyone how amazing their cam du jour is?

@Mark Romero 2Instead of posting this video in the section of the forum dedicated for showcasing one's work, this video was instead posted as look what the gh5 can do. Oliver stated: "the GH5 is good enough for the big guns. Arguing over which camera is best these days isn't even worth the debate" Yes the gh5 can churn out minimal budget videos with the best of them. And Oliver does beautiful work. But is Oliver correct? Are this forums debates about cameras worthless? Watch a few different music videos back to back. Does an imaging system not impart a unique look or feel to the video? View some of past "the damned" vids. High end for the big guns?

Not to mention a 6k scan for portions shot on film and arri raw. (Shotonwhat)

I only took the company at its word. Others may know better. And yes, I dont think anyone would turn down a couple dudes to hand you batteries, media, and cold beverages, regardless of cam.

Did you read the article or just look at the first picture?? I mean I would want crew myself and certainly not disputing you. The article by arri just states that it was designed for solo operation. If this gentlemans beard can handle the weight for an entire nfl game, I know yours can!

To any who may frown on these posts. Let me ask you. Do you want another Ebrahim? He went on for years giving all sorts of advice about image quality, gear, workflow, etc...When people would ask for recommendations, there he was, speaking the lingo, talking like an old pro. As it turned out, he was a kid with a 50d literally out in the middle of the Egyptian desert. As for Kye, I asked his intent, as evidenced by the previous posts, and he equated that to a personal attack. Maybe I should of responded like Matthew Allard of newsshooter responded to a commenter in the Ebu post, when they told him he should call out Allen Roberts about the results of his recent test. "Its like a sports car owner telling a racecar driver what their doing wrong" and Matt owns an F35 and Amirra. If Kye was part of this analogy, he'd be a well versed spectator in the stands. Would you take any heed of his advice on what engine to use or when to change tires? Which brings me to another topic I rail against that keeps getting hammered on, especially by the owners of the gh5. All cameras are "good enough." That may be, depending on a number of factors, including but not limited to screen size and quality, your own preferences, and distribution medium......but do you see Mathew Allard, Matt Workman, Phillip bloom, Robert Allen, or the vast majority of production giving up industry standard cinema and eng cams? And I cant say they wouldn't like to, because no one wants to carry around heavy tools or spend tens of thousands and more on tools, when they could use it for living life instead. Is it safe to say most participants of eoshd have not seen a single uhd bluray? How about the simple task of downloading the exr' s from Geoff Boyles evaluations as a point of reference? how can they then even begin to make a statement of any sort in reference to "quality" of image when comparing one camera to another?

Is this an accomplishment of some sort? An anomoly? Aren't IPhones, and gopros also used? The "big guns" could deem dancing around the security cam at your local Tesco adequate, no? As you mention, you dont like everything about the asthetic. The aesthetic an imaging system provides is whats being debated day in and out on every forum. The dismissal of these arguments, in which you yourself particitate, accomplishes what?

I think this quote says it best. Especially the last sentence. Yeah maybe it should be more about the media than the medium. But I guess thats up to those spending the money.

@kye less than three months ago, you signed up here asking for advice about getting your canon a look that would suit your tastes. You stated you had limited knowledge. Your goal was to capture pleasing images of your family life. (The most important images imo!) Why do you then proceed to comment on set protocol? Why would you then dish out advice on image manipulation using software that takes many months if not years to fully utilize, when your only knowledge admittedly comes from a relatively short time browsing YouTube and the web? How about doling out advice on what type of camera when you've only used a few pieces of entry level gear? Without any real experience or standard of reference, how do you know the teachers of your internet education have any more experience than you? Truly curious about what compels individuals to behave in such a manner. Well thats the crux of the problem isnt it? If you want to help others, simply post links to sources like I did for you.

@Robert CollinsColor science is an industry standard term. Are you trying to dispute that? Or others interpretation of the term? If it's the latter, thats understandable. However, if its the former, I don't feel an internet forum lends itself to such a vast topic. (Like your areas of expertise) If you truly want to learn about video, why not a reputable book/publication. Anything by Charles Poynton seems like it might be a good fit. (For the mathematical and technical side of video at least)

@HockeyFan12I've mentioned in the past I love hearing your perspective, so I would like to better understand where your at this time around. Even if Arri is completely wrong about the amira being a single op cam, and sony, canon, panasonic, bm, red designed their roughly$5k-$20k lineup for the wrong demographic as I believe the above post infers, (ie needing a largish crew to truly reap any benefits image wise from any cam purpose built for motion capture, and maybe not even then) , I think the thing to keep in mind is the specific look, texture, or feel that each camera system imparts to an image no? These unique, inherent qualities are subjectively deemed either beneficial or undesirable to an image. My point being, every prudent individual with a vested interest, subjectively talented or not, will use the most efficient, practical tool for the application if at all possible. The op, in his opinion, was using the incorrect tool. Even if he's completey correct, is he in a position to make that judgement?

Why stop at the gh series? Just use a phone.

One way is to use these free tools. At the bottom of the 3dlc page, are +/- exposure and +/- wb generated for specific gammas/gamuts. This can be done with lutcalc as well, but these are already made. Place these look up tables proceeding any other lut/transform, so the following recieves the values it's designed for. Read up thoroughly on luts/transforms etc...if you have not. Use camera man Ben's lut calc to transform from one gamut and/or gamma to another. Xdcamuser is also a great place to learn about your sony cameras from someone who is an actual expert. Wow. gh5 users are downright fanatical in the promotion and defense of their cam. This post is almost 3 years old. I have to admire their passion, but man out of the 100k views and all the posts about the bm4kbigpocket, seems like at least 25k are from gh5 owners trying to convince themselves their cameras are still going to be worth shooting.

For a film project I used an a7sii out to an Atomos (owned and op'd by a guy who works in vfx on a well known u.s. show, so I believe he would know how to get the best out of the cam, but ?) to lend a more modern feel to certain scenes, and he operated the F35 for the remainder. I played around with the footage in resolve. ( very familiar with slog's sgamut's ,cinegammas etc...) not even remotely impressed with the footage compared to the F35 (which is just a newer panavision genesis, really, so based on 12 year old tech at the least) except by its high iso capabilities. It was awesome at that. I won't comment any more than that as I haven't put the required time in with the A series. But, I can say, on the Sonys that I have spent a couple years with now, the mixed lighting is where I feel they struggle most. I do have to give sony this: they offer a lot of nice specs to throw around forums. I notice the user name snowbro. If that's a reference to snow and the associated cold, are your gloved fingers going to operate one cam or the other better? Will the cams perform in sub zero temps day after day? What about heat? Which cam has the best chance of surviving if you slip and drop a cam in a remote location that cost you thousands to reach? Which leads me to ask: wouldn't you want a backup cam anyways? Or is this post more about price?
