  1. It was already cheaper back in december though...
  2. True that. That's why I find decades old vintage glass is so friggin' awesome. Just got a Jupiter-9 the other day. Boy, that aperture: epic! Doesn't mean you should get old lenses, but just goes to show that great glass will last you just about forever and keeps on giving you premo optical quality and character year after year. Now that actually starts sounding as if camera bodies age so fast, you'll definitly want the latest one that lasts you the longest. But you have no idea when it will be released and what it can do... so what's the point? Just go shoot with what's availlable to you now. You can always upgrade later if you really feel like your camera is lacking. Chances are, you might not even find solid reasons to and be happy with what you've got.
  3. So what is the reason for me to keep the flagship E-M1 again? Thanks, but I'll rather take the smaller body with vari-angle display with features that actually make this an upgrade from the E-M1... E-M5II? More like a E-M2!
  4. Just press 'display' untill you're satisfied with the layout? Turn off MF Assist. Change LVF Disp.Style?
  5. He doesn't have to be unbiased. People read the articles on the EOSHD Blog for his opinion. Not much of a review or blog entry if you only go over specs and what it can and can do. Sometimes I find myself agreeing with Andrew, sometimes not. So what. Guess what, people differ from one to the next, you might've noticed. If people buy a 1D C solely because Andrew just said he likes it and put it up as no.1 on his own personal list... well then maybe they don't deserve a camera that suits THEIR OWN purposes, because, chances are, not everybody will find the 1D C ideal for their kind of shoots. Although, even if they didn't care to do a bit of research and just went with the first thing that looked good, they're not even going to be disappointed that much to be honest. But lets be real here, people looking to buy a camera like that, hopefully they're already in the business and well informed themselves. Spending a couple of grand on a camera, I'm pretty sure people will want to know all the ins and outs before jumping in. For the purposes Andrew got the 1D C it seems like a pretty good choice. I mean, it does look like it's a great hybrid camera. Does an excellent job for both stills and video. If you have Canon glass, that's great. Use it! You can still throw it in a backpack. It does 4K internally. There's something to say for keeping a high-end camera mainly for stills but also acceptable video on the go and aside a production kind of camera with more bells and whistles like the FS7 (by the way, great new video went up on the CameraStoreTV YouTube channel on that one). But there's little point in arguing what is the best choice for a certain person; they alone can say what works best for them, just as anyone else picks their poison. There's not that one perfect camera that does everything well for everybody, there's always going to be stuff you'd wish was different about it. In the end we're talking about serious gear here. It's hard to go wrong with a Canon 5DmkIII, Panasonic GH4, Samsung NX1 or Sony A7S and the likes, but surely anything more serious and expensive must be good enough as it is? Then it starts comes down to... it's not about the size but what you do with it. And everyone wants to do different stuff. Hakuna matata.
  6. Perhaps a silly idea, but wouldn't LEGO stuff work? As a kid I used to play around with that kind of stuff. 'Cause kinda thinking of it, you need a motor with gearing, a controller and them some way to mount and drive it. Should work? Not sure about powering the whole thing. If I remember correctly, the power for the motor comes from the controler that takes like 4 AA batteries. Also not sure if the motor would be powerful enough. Professional looking it might not be either, lol. But it could be a working and cheap option.
  7. Yeah, it's not really a professional standard by any means, but pitching a tv pilot to several networks or getting a school performance out to parents I think are pretty much two different things you could approach in different ways distributing wise. If you need to sell a product, making a DVD availlable for purchase is probably the best accepted and most anticipated way to do so and the most controlled one as well. About copying... That probably can be said for just about every means of distributing. Although you're more likely get people to share a single videofile than when the source is a couple of VIDEO_TS-like folders. True that.
  8. Consider a USB drive as well. We're living in a time where more and more people are getting netbooks/ultrabooks without a physical drive. Also, pc towers will for sure have a USB port and so do DVD or Bluray players these days. So I'd say if you want to deliver something physical, get them a USB drive? If you want 'em to give it physically at all that is. You can host the file online and give them access to the server. Or rather yet, make it publicly availlable on a site like Vimeo/YouTube? People wanting to show it whilst visiting their grandma can show it on their smartphone. It's 2015. That's sadly how the average consumer goes about sharing clips and watching video.
  9. Could be. But it would be region locked to either 30 or 25p. No 24p. Definitly not 60p/50p, although perhaps at 1080p. Resolution wise no C4K 4096 width, but 3840 only. It's APS-C in a consumer body, plastic everywhere, crop factor. Mic in, but no audio monitoring through headphone jack. It would pretty much be handicapped to a certain degree, but 4K nontheless. There might be a flat picture profile, but nothing logarithmic. Codec and bitrate would be okay for getting stuff right in camera, but would fall apart quickly when grading. Moiré/aliasing would probably be all over it. I mean... why would they do it? Because '4K' sells. But pro's aren't suddenly going to want this kind of shindig instead of a C300mkII you know. That's why I can see them giving it a go for a 750D, but not for the 5D-line just yet, before it's absolutely the new standard in a year or two and there's hardly a way around implementing it. A Cinema-line camera would then be doing 8K hopefully anyways. So... But you know... there's Magic Lantern, and if they could have a go at something like that... cool things are possible, surely. Rebirth of the 550D's success.
  10. It makes it go head-to-head with the FS7. I feel like someone should do a shootout. - edit - well this is a nice start: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M7upQVWRPM
  11. Well granted, I wasn't expecting so anyways. Looking forward to that 5Dv as well though... but as stated before, not sure if that would mean 4K either. The only thing I could see Canon do is give us consumer 4K on something like a 750D.
  12. Interesting wish. Maybe wait to see what the Olympus 8mm f/1.8 will be like (mock up rumored at CP+, sales in spring, shipping in summer).
  13. Actually... according http://digicame-info.com/2015/01/post-678.html an E-M1 firmware update will be announced soon as well... The E-M1 being the flagship camera, not quite about to be replaced just yet, I hope they'll finally keep it in the running with some firmware magic... maybe it ul keep up with the M5II videowise. Time will tell.
  14. Yeah, I couldn't really imagine them featuring 4K on any of the soon to come 5D's, so the 1D C what that concerned seems a safe go-to, if that's what you want out of a camera. However, the actual 5DmkIII successor, 5DmkIV, will probably have half of that resolution, so to say it's going to suck... not sure. Just... it won't be anything overwhelming. I'm kinda hoping they're gonna give consumer grade 4K to an APS-C camera like the 750D... I mean, people in the bizz aren't likely to be trading in their 5DmkIII or C100 for example for an APS-C entry level camera. But people looking into a LX100, FZ1000, GH4 and NX1, or just people looking for something better than their 4K smartphone just might. And then of course hoping Magic Lantern will have a go at it. Because if it wasn't for them, I'm not sure if people would've stuck with their Canon's for video as long as they have. I'm pretty sure they're not to keen on replicating the success of the 5DmkII because of the cinema line, but they could replicate the success of the 550D I feel like.
  15. Yeah, you've been telling many things. Specs were already rumored, by no means does this seem groundbreaking either and what about lowlight... What about video? So I would say hold your horses. Also... ALL CAPS... RLY?
  16. People are easily tricked by numbers when looking for something new. That is why you see cameras with 60x zoom, 24MP and tv's with 800Hz, this and that, etc. If his wish is 4K without even considering 'why', just because it's the latest and hottest issue... I'm not sure that's the right choice. Of course 4K has tons of benefits and I would be the last to say you shouldn't, but given you need to work with somekind of budget, putting everything in a camera body because of 4K... meh. Might want to reconsider that there. How about glass, fast cards, a tripod with fluid head, audio gear, tons of other accessories. But maybe he has been borrowing or renting gear and this is his first camera to actually own... and purposely has a use for 4K, then I agree with the above, the FZ1000 is one fine camera. It's like a lite GH4 14-140mm kit. The LX100 has great image quality and up to ISO1250 noise is really well controlled, but yeah, is a little less flexible to use. The 4K GH4 and NX1 can be bought as well, but remember you're gonna need glass, cards, et cetera. Not to mention processing power and storage solutions (although with the GH4 not as bad as with some other 4K cameras). You can get a focal reducer from eBay and some cheap vintage/legacy glass to not stretch the budget too much. But if there's no real purpose to having 4K... there are some great 1080p choices out there.
  17. Yeah, I was gonna suggest that. Fotga makes decent filters. I had one 62mm that I used on the 14-140mm back in the day with the GH2 that works pretty okay. They go for very cheap on eBay. If you're on a bit of a budget and pick the FZ1000 over an interchangeable lens system, I already take you expect your audience not to pixel peep that much. Because it's a variable ND, so you might run into some weird behaviour (saturation, reflections, patterns), especially stopped down close to the maximum, but otherwise, it doesn't even lose that much sharpness. Color is ok too. Gives you a bit more flexibility, on-the-go control and ease of use.
  18. Guess it will be tempting trading in my E-M1 for one of these.
  19. Just say you've shot on a camera that 'can do 4K' and recorded everything in RAW. You never actually have to record 4K (or lie) to use the buzzword.
  20. Maybe they have the stuff you're looking for at http://www.onestop-digital.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=3 . Also note the tax-return guarantee policy for some European countries (see FAQ - France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and United Kingdom; additionally: Australia). Makes it quite interesting to shop at from abroad as well.
  21. Still secretly hoping V2.2 will be availlable one of these days soon and feature V-LOG ( http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/7466-v-log-on-gh4-is-coming/ ).
  22. Dremel, as in the rotary tool, used for smoothing surfaces, engraving and surely cutting too, depending on the attachment used. Cover the optic elements with a piece of cardboard and attach some tape to fix it in place (protect the glass). Then use one of these tools and cut away carefully. http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Tools/Pages/CategoryProducts.aspx?catid=2013
  23. If you read the comments there you'll find out that the one you're linking to, some of the parts it consists out of are plastic. I also have Ginirigs stuff. All metal everything. Just threw two examples together real quick for ya. The first one below is one of these offset dual rod setups, is more rigid and well-built than all the really cheap stuff and much more modular. So you can get some parts from Lanparte for example and throw it on there. Yeah, haven't thrown any counterweights on it, but it's easy to adapt to. With a small lens it's nice 'n easy, but that 80-200mm for example does get to you a little. Follow focus is the Kamerar one (FF3 if I remember correctly). 2nd one is more of a run 'n gun thing (ABCRig). It's more of a cage with handle that has some shoulder rig abilities than a shoulder rig per se. It's nice 'n basic though.
  24. I remember vividly 4K was rumored by that very site to be coming. Just to backpeddle on that stating the source however may not be that legit. Finally, it was taken back but things looked as if the video mode would be approved quite significantly... well, in the end all we got for video ironically was a dust & scratches filter... such a pity, the E-M1 is a dream of a camera in most aspects and I wouldn't require 'em to give us 4K at all, but we've yet to see 24 and 25p which kinda was anticipated by quite a few people... and perhaps they could squeeze a little bit more out of the sensor performance (bitrate/codec) wise. But I have a feeling they have a fear of being known for great video...
  25. What's the deal with the non-black black bars though? The sharpness wasn't really too bad, I kinda was a bit put off by the grading. The whole thing looks like a class ad, but feel like it would be better without the blue cast, embracing warmer colors and a bit less contrast. And actually the GH4 footage to me looked nicer than the stuff shot with the F55. Great little camera. A couple of years ago who had imagined we'd be flying around drones with 4K mirrorless cameras?
