  1. The Olympus E-M1 at launch only did 30p. You know what they did years later? Firmware update release notes: That's a camera that had already long been sold by then. You really think they paid 5 million bucks after the fact just to please some beggars?
  2. Yeah... Either way. Doesn't seem much point arguing any further. xD
  3. CHDK/Magiclantern/Hacked GH2 movement/BTM_Pix kinda have proven that over the years indeed.
  4. xD lol, sounds like a Cameraconspiracies boardroom meeting... lol, yeah, they can do it alright... I mean just this thing, the XF705! They have the tech and the know-how. They just don't want to. https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/camcorders/professional/xf705/xf705 That's like everything I'd want in a camera from Canon. Except... it's not a compact interchangeable lens mirrorless camera with a large sensor but is really really pricey.
  5. Newer cameras have 24p included... Canon really sorta is the only exception. If there was such a weird thing as 24p codec licensing, which is an utter B$ of an assumption, then why-o-why is Panasonic including it? Why does Sony still fit 24p in all their cameras? Why does stills heritage Fujifilm care about 24p video? Nikon? Heck, even bloody Pentax... and nobody is even using those to shoot video. Yet... it's a Canon strategy that we've seen time and time again. Seemingly purposely crippling cameras, withholding certain features. Playing the infamous segmentation game. You want X? Buy Z! Heavy crops, 24p, limited recording times, DPAF C-AF during 4K, inclusion of a mic-input/headphone port, display type (front-facing), etc... all to differentiate cameras, pushing you to buy certain cameras if you want certain features. It's sorta the same we see Pansonic do diversifying their flagship line-up not to just be the one GH-camera. Now there's the G9 if you want the best in stills, with that top LCD, huge EVF, 6.5-stops of stabiization, USB-C charging and schtuff. The GH5S if you want the absolute best in image quality... dual native ISO benefit. GH5 if you think the GH5S sounds exciting, but rather have IBIS going on and pay less. I mean... it's working, I have 2 out of the 3. Pricing of the GH5S pushed me into getting the BMPCC4K instead. But yeah, definitely manufacturers are giving certain cameras certain features to set it apart, which I find disturbing. At least Panasonic/Sony still give you quite a bit more than the average consumer would ever need, but enthusiasts and pros would love to have. Canon? Not so much. They're trying to figure out what they can leave out of next camera releases instead of looking what to include. They don't have much going on for them anymore, they're just playing catch up. Others all are doing sensor stabilization cameras, have come a long way in color science, so that's not really a factor anymore, Sony's C-AF is in Canon's DualPixel AF league (rest perhaps not so much yet), ease of use? Well, maybe not Sony, but others are a delight and offer so much control and customization. Lenses? Give me a break. Nobody actually likes red ring lenses that much anymore, definitely not the pinnacle of the industry now. Like honestly, why even bother getting a Canon interchangeable lens camera these days? I know I wouldn't... then again I never saw the appeal throughout the years. The value proposition just isn't there. Seems to be a brand for sheeple chasing to be the next Casey Nicetatt, Matti Hapoopoo or Peter McCanon.
  6. Could actually be the last of the traditional DSLRs? What a note to end on... Aren't they also the only ones not to have any of their interchangeable cameras with sensor stabilization?
  7. Yeah wow, great move, much smart. How dumb are Sony, Panasonic, Fujifilm & Nikon, eh?! WHAHAHA Oh, c'mon. Just stop the bullcrap excuses. 'The omiting thing is a tradition. It’s a habit.' Well, yup. In the sense that it's Canon being Canon. Canon be like: lol, we be crippling them cameras like there's no tomorrow... ... and they still fucking buy 'em! OMFG! xD The enablers are to blame here. I'd be gloating too... it's like taking candy from a baby and them not minding getting spit in the face.
  8. So... now... ... you have put breaks in between paragraphs. Doesn't seem like a massive difference to me. How much time you put into that pass? Maybe now just go out with a freshly formatted SD and start shooting some stuff?
  9. I actually was in support of IronFilm there. ? I mean... sure I still have my good ol' GH2 for nostalgia's sake. And there's something magical about that Sony PMW-F3 that I actually would not mind taking for a spin once... But... to jump through all those hoops and make all that effort... for what I think is not particularly mind-blowing quality... energy spent VS reward, I don't necessarily see. Though... that's highly subjective of course. And even if agreeing on image quality being so-so, which could work for a project you need a Lo-Fi look for I suppose, it can just be a fun hobby for the curious mind. Guess it's more productive and interesting than collecting lawn gnomes. ? There's this fella doing videos on old audio tech, in a way it's a sort of time capsule or a museum visit, having such videos of old tech online for everyone to see and educate themselves and realize how far we actually have come. Here's Techmoan's channel should you feel interested: https://www.youtube.com/user/Techmoan/videos . Guess it's a good thing that there are some people that still care and keep these things from being forgotten entirely. Though, personally, I'll stick to older lenses, not so much the cameras.
  10. Travelstuff. So stuff that's happening in front of the cam mostly. Not really vlogging (but perhaps live narrating, hence I thought the Sony stereo mic would pick up from in front and behind the camera simultaneously), but who knows. Main point: doesn't add much to the camera itself. A lav won't do me any good for my scenario (do have the Aputure one for a while now as well) and can't really be arsed to frankenrig things up and always carry around brackets and shockmounted shotguns. Seen a lot of mentions of the Saramonic SR-XM1 indeed. Only checked out one video and that was kind of disappointing. Maybe that person didn't really know what they were doing, I'll check into it some more see if it's acceptable enough. Thanks for the feedback! Appreciated. WIll give that some consideration.? ?
  11. BMPCC4K Summer Sale? €475,- again? ?
  12. @IronFilm Beauty of a topic, worthy of a good bump although I need your wizard opinion on something else audio related (and figured opening an entire topic would be excessive ? ). With the Canon G7 X Mark III and Sony RX100 VII out... featuring a side mic port... what would be a nifty solution without resorting to off-camera mounts? I just remembered that like almost a decade ago the Sony ECM-DS70P was a popular electret condenser stereo mic, that even was faked a lot in China (still is, they sell for under $5 bucks lol, think I even had one at some point). Wouldn't that be the perfect solution to getting audio from in-front and behind the camera for generic vlogging and capturing? Doesn't have to be award winning, just good enough not to mess about with other solutions... keen to hear your thoughts on that (and alternatives I might not know about). Cheers.
  13. Yes and wonderful storytelling of life VS death. Blooming flowers, burning ashes. And from the ashes we may rise again. Wonderful juxtaposition.
  14. The old airport terminal in L'viv ('Lemberg' as the German-speakers call it) was cute. With a little church-like clock tower. Never did any sightseeing through the city though.
  15. Not to be harsh, but... the trailer doesn't get me emotionally invested like... at all. And if you put it on in the background or don't pay attention for a few seconds you wouldn't have made the connection that it's basically flying doctors for animal rescue. And the 2nd half is like vague generic - insert here - motivational talk and you're telling the viewer what to do 'great story anyone can appreciate - something everybody should see' (I'll be the judge of that). Yet... I don't see a story being told here? What's the story? 'Tells the story of animal rescue start to finish', sure. Then give us an actual example, don't tell us, show us! Let's follow a dog around and leave us with a cliffhanger or something, making us wonder if the dog ended up alright. The subject is there. Flying doctors for animal rescue sounds super interesting, make sure to properly acknowledge that angle. Now you've gotta use that and make us realize that what we are about to see is trully unique. So... I'd make an alternative trailer cut and use that. Also... Facebook moms will share the shit out of little snippits of cute dogs in trouble getting an emotional rescue. Make a few 10 sec or so videos to share there, lesser things have gone viral. My 2 cts. Of course... great job doing something out of the love for this subject and I hope it catches on! ?
  16. I always enjoy the 'Pro Photographer Cheap Camera Challenge' videos on YouTube. Next up, it would perhaps be interesting to see what videographers can come up with being restricted to just using a smartphone. Just... maybe not like the way they used a Nokia PureView that one time to shoot that Olive short (8 years ago mind you)... I mean. Hardly a realistic use case scenario for a smartphone. xD This very topic and its entries are already promising and deliver on the idea that it's more about the person behind the camera and what they're pointing at in front of it. Nice going.
  17. Bit of a 'US racing' philosophy where they race eachother for 'pink slips' (car ownership titles). Bit harsh. Though I doubt the winner of the public vote would actually be eager taking the last placed's camera away from 'em. Believe Andrew also mentioned you can enter for the Judge's vote alone and not risking losing the camera ($200 value possibly). ?
  18. Reminds me of a blogpost of mine once upon a time... (a friend asked me to explain him the basics, so I figured, might as well write some shit down and put it online). Including the 'WORK IN PROGRESS. CONTENT WILL BE ADDED. EVENTUALLY…' haha, yeah, like that ever works out. ? Does contain Dracula, a love triangle and sunglasses tho.
  19. The original is... 69 bucks? That ain't too bad. I bought an extra original charger for my ASUS for around 100 (I wanted official and these universal all brand I don't really trust that much). If I look through all Amazon listings they all sound kinda dodgy. Non of the usual suspects in charging that I know (mostly USB chargers/cables/powerbanks) pop up (with well-recognized stores on AliExpress (and usually on Amazon too): Anker, Blitzwolf, ROCK, UGreen, Vinsic, Baseus, Orico, Tronsmart, Flovme, Mcdodo, WSKEN, USAMS etc). I only see one of the brand 'Rocketek' which I have seen around before and do as well have their own flagship store on AliExpress (which is usually a good indication they're quite legit: https://rocketek.aliexpress.com . The one on Amazon.com however is a 45W version. The one I see on the Amazon.de site is 85W. Can't seem to find it back on AliExpress though... Don't have any Apple products myself. Don't have any experience with Rocketek. So... you're on your own, but atleast some pointers, eh? Would be careful going brandless/extremely cheap. Same goes for camera batteries. A renowned B or even C-brand without all the premium, sure. An X, Y or Z-brand selling them for peanuts? Eh... might want to skip 'em. I've had bad experiences cheaping out on that kind of stuff. Really... whether it's a laptop or a camera, they're friggin' expensive. I personally don't feel like cheapskating it on powersupply risking it all... (had something similar to the following happen with DSTE batteries for my GH2) Don't want to get situations like that now... stay safe out there
  20. ... *imagines... ? 'Dang, my stomach is growling, gotta get some food in ma belly. I'd just about kill for some BigMacs right now' *Turns appetite ring 'At second thought... nah, I actually think I'm good' ?!
  21. Nah, just a fake front to get in lazy money (and perhaps creditcard/personal information/e-mailaddresses), I doubt it's about what you actually download (you probably do end up getting LUTs, but they probably have nothing to do with developing them or have the authorisation from the respective owners to share/sell them) and spreading viruses. There's a lot of places to get legit LUTs and you'll know what exactly you are buying. Usually they have sliders showing the before and after as well have a lot of people on YouTube try and review them. They're credible and have the feedback to back their claims up. This? It just smells like a bunch of hoogie bogie to me. That's exactly why it's 5 bucks. You're like 'c'mon, that's one less Starbucks coffee' and if it's shady it's not worth your trouble to go after your money. But if a thousand folks think like that... then that's more money in Ebrahim's pocket.
  22. Hum, cambrella. Kickstarter, here I come. Or a NOS backpack... giving it shots of coolness. -- lol, just came across this: https://www.cloudynights.com/classifieds/item/171826-tec-water-cooled-canon-t3i/
