  1. Yeah, slick site and all, but who? Google search mentions one of the images of the site being uploaded 5 days ago. That's how long the site is up? So there's no history, background, names, except for claiming they're trusted within the industry and 'their work' is just collecting LUTs as they are 'acquired LUTs directly from the top colorists in Hollywood' in a 'A Pack of 157 Brilliant Colour Perfection LUTs'. Although the actual cinematic LUTs only are described as there being 39 of 'em elsewhere. Why isn't there any demos with actual videos? Before and afters? So... did they just steal a bunch of LUTs they've found online and trying to sell 'em in a bundle?
  2. Litlle bump for this topic. ? DEAL [AT / Austria] - Various photography gear I was pricealerted through Geizhals.eu . ~ linkie link (*Aktion gültig von 01.08. – 10.08.2019 im Markt und noch bis 12.08.2019 (09:00 Uhr) im Onlineshop) Goes for bodies like the G9/GH5/GH5S (or A7III, etc), but most notably the H-X1025 , yes the all new PANASONIC Leica DG Vario Summilux 10-25mm f1.7 for €1999 €1799! Funny enough another store has it up for sale for the same (maybe pricematching). Not sure if your local stores have/do the same? Was already upset about the pricing... Before that €1799 was actually the number running through my mind... April 24th when it was rumored to come in at $2.5k... And now it is exactly that. Dang it. The law of attraction making me put my money where my mouth's at. --- well, I had to just run my darn mouth, didn't I. They've made the lens unavailable now. Typical. ----- well, maybe Saturn still grants it... -10% comes down to the same thing
  3. Basically an update to the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera (a sensor box with a mount needing Canon LP-E6 batteries) that they themselves never brought. Seen only one video floating around...
  4. Yeah, it's a little bit of an abundance opening so many similar threads, should've just stuck to one. xD
  5. The thumbnail looked promising... the actual video quality actually disappointed me a little because of the expectation. The EOS-M6 Mark II is rumored... the rumored specs seem a bit out there, but hopefully we're getting to higher CR-values and closer to a launchdate soon enough.
  6. That's why I hate Sony cameras. If they made their APS-C series in the form of a G9 or GH5-style body... without all the Sony issues (overheating, rolling shutter, color, IBIS not being that effective, poor ergonomics, prioritizing microsizing causing missing out on certain features/implementations, etc)... I might've been all about that. Such a shame they're just nightmares in real-life whilst looking so great on paper. Then there's the whole lack of continuous development of dedicated compact APS-C lenses. See, shaving off a few mm here and there doesn't do much in terms of portability (it does hurt the amount of space inside to implement stuff, like making sure there's effective heat dissipation). But if you can have a smaller sensor then you can also keep lenses smaller and lightweight (and generally more affordable). But they've been neglecting their APS-C lens line-up for years and years now. So... what's the use when they say 'well, use our fullframe G Master series, APS-C or not, it's E-mount all the same! And you can start building your lens collection until you finally decide to come over to the darkside and shoot fullframe'. Thing is... I deliberately do not want to shoot fullframe. Especially seeing how far MFT has come. A GH6 will leave very little to wish for in terms of sensor performance. And although I could adapt lenses like the Nikon 'Bourne' ones, which are huge and chunky, I would have the option to use small stuff, like any of the f/1.7 primes and share the mount with an even smaller camera such as the GX80 (which might be small, but still is reliable).
  7. What I always find interesting is that people looking for investors have a budget for fairly high-end promo vids. But I guess it's the old saying: it takes money to make money! ?
  8. It's the same everywhere though, unfortunately. With the car scene as well. There's a new car, there's a whole press event where people get flown out and wine and dined (literally... 5 star hotels, Michellin star restaurants). They get an exclusive first look and will have to sign an NDA. When it ends they're free to post their thoughts, images and other content (possibly after approval). Thing is... if you work for a car magazine, you don't want to be the only one without content. You can't wait until the car is for sale and can be driven by anyone. You want to be on top of the coverage and getting the content out when it matters. That's only possible by attending these press events... and they're invite only obviously. So... you bet your ass off the general story will be spun in a positive direction. Selective journalism for the sake of actuality, if you will. You don't have to fake liking it (this is where I do have to blame some YouTubers! They get all 'wow John, it's amazing, but wait there's more!', of course car journalists and magazines don't care which car you buy... however: a YouTuber is getting that pre-order affiliate moniez). You can be selective about what you leave out that you don't like. Usually all 'first look' or 'initial hands-on' videos are an objective look at things, rather just giving you the hard facts and information than opinions (which I can live with). This keeps the manufacturer happy and secures your spot at the table for future launches, whilst not completely selling one's soul. Usually in follow-up videos they're more likely to put in some critique (though less likely with some YouTubers, because Canon Canada is kitting them out for free). It's perhaps not just, but it is what it is. That's the game. You can decide not to play, but hey, what good will that really do?
  9. Always wondered about Backblaze myself. They're claiming 1/4th of the Amazon S3 File Storage costs... https://www.backblaze.com/b2/solutions/media-and-entertainment.html Apparently they were at NAB too: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/what-not-to-miss-nab2019/ . They've been on my radar since they've started posting annual hard drive (failure rates) statistics (2018: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-stats-for-2018/ ).

    G7 in 2019

Old EOSHD-frequenter Andy Lee (not sure what's up with him these days) had decided to use G7 bodies on a project over the GH4 back when. Its colors and noise performance was actually better. Look at this: Though, the G85 is a significant upgrade I would say because you get even better color/noise performance. It's also great for handheld due to the all-important in-body image stabilization and Dual I.S. The kit lens Lumix 12-60mm has optical stabilization that works in conjunction with that and is weathersealed (as is the G85 body itself). Plus, I found it really helpful that the G85 moved the SD card slot away from being co-located at the battery compartment to its own door on the side. The GX85 lacks the mic-input and the Cinelike profiles have to be added by hack (that I believe is inhibited by later firmware)... Not sure about the E-M10 Mark III but Mathieu/Mirrorlessons did fair videos on that:
  11. What I don't like are three things... 1. The pricetag; this is not $1200 camera imho 2. The lens, it's not bright enough, fine for a travelzoom, but this is a camera that has started its life as a premium compact that's supposed to be an on-the-go DSLR surrogate for enthusiasts 3. They're way too obsessed keeping their cameras small, which only leads to issues (like heat dissipation), lack of features and poor ergonomics. Compact? Sure! Microsizing as an statement... nah, fam! Otherwise, it's alright. They did add the flip-up this time around (though why on earth is the touchscreen application so limited, they make smartphones for crying out loud, they should've figured interface interaction out by now) and mic input (indeed nowhere to mount an ext. mic though), much following Canon's G7 X Mark III. The (C-)AF does seem rather spectacular (the new Canon does an horrendous job). And hey they didn't omit 24p. If you want to be upset about an update not being an evolution let alone revolution, go bash Panasonic for their LX100 II. That should've been the little portable camera I was going to end up with, not the G7 X Mark III. Disappointing is an understatement, they could've taken care of Canon/Sony in that class once and for all. I get Kasey from Cameraconspiracies has shown it's a success formula to provide the interw3bz with complaining and nittpicking (albeit for comedy effect, not out of bitterness), but to be fair, this is pretty much in line with any camera update, really. If anything, they overdelivered on my expectation (which still isn't good enough for me, but that's a different story). Hope Nikon reconsiders developing the DL-line once more...
  12. Yo fam! Waz gud. Dang. Geez nuggets ma dude. He ain't got no chill. Like yo... eazy there homez. Oi... Brap brap. Skrrt. Ey, can I get another hit? Mmmkai. ? This generation is f0oked
  13. I always say 'I consider focus to be a creative choice, a way to literally direct the audience's attention'. I'd rarely be willing to give up control over that. That said, there's the right time and place for just about anything, including C-AF if it's well-behaved, reliable and smooth, works with programmable pulls too. So... I'd still prefer to have a camera where I could rely on it at times, rather than not having it at all. And in the future with all the deep learning AI and whatnot it will probably know where I'd want to have the focus on before I do myself.
  14. Truth. For them it's like taking candy from a baby. Why make the effort, when you can sit back and still watch the money come in. Though you'd think at some point we've hit the point of no return, when they seriously miscalculated their luck and it finally runs out and are surpassed from all sides by the competition with people now jumping over to the latest greatest shiny toy to never look back. Though, admittedly I'm getting my first Canon in years with the PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Sure, in true Canon fashion it lacks 24p, rather than Canon's own benchmark DPAF it has quite shoddy contrast based C-AF, does have a mic-in, but nowhere to place an external mic for instance... but Sony doesn't exactly come through with their RX100-series either and the latest Panasonic LX100 iteration was a laughable update. The thing seems killer for social media content creation, maybe not the best thing for actual video production and cinematography, but then again it's a compact cam for crying out loud. Canon is pretty much the epidemy of 'point-n-shoot'. And we live in a world where videos shot on shaky potatoes go viral, so, picture quality really isn't the end all when you've got the right content. It's more about going the shortest distance from hitting the record button to the upload one (saves you time endlessly pixel peeping/grading/managing storage etc too) and that's where they're winning the crowd over. They're the no0b's choice. But I have no interest whatsoever in their EOS-M or EOS-R line-ups. For actual video production and cinematography I'd still pick up a feature-rich Panasonic.
  15. Comes a little too late (LG 55OLEDC8 here). Already watched that one Game of Thrones episode... well attempted to during daytime anyways. xD Better peak brightness wouldn't have hurt in that instance. In general I keep having to change brightness levels for time of the day (auto isn't really doing it for me). Of course motion and color is another aspect of the enjoying experience and that's definitely great compared to what my parents keep buying from supermarkets (Medion/Samsung). In 2014 I was in Hongkong and set foot over the boarder at Lo Wu to visit Shenzhen. I really noticed how strong all the Chinese brands were represented there. The likes of Hisense, Skyworth, Konka, Changhong, TCL, etc. Think a year later was about the first time I actually saw a Hisense at a local Mediamarkt here in Europe. Personally, I'm a big fan of the likes of Hisense, Huawei (the P10 Plus was the first phone I didn't import from China but bought locally), Xiaomi (now with a bunch of global retail stores) offering great specs at superfair and competitive prices, making them no brainers. I think the whole anti-Huawei movement is B$. Even if they were... like Apple, FB etc aren't keeping taps on you... I'm all about getting more advanced tech at more attractive prices, so what I'm concerned: keep 'em coming!
  16. Canon G7 X & G5 X-series are supposed to get a successor next month-ish if you believe rumors... The Canon G7X-series has been the all-in-one pocket content capturing device of choice of the YouTube crowd. Front-facing flippy touchscreen, decent stabilization, decent autofocus, decent picture straight-out-of-camera, decent onboard audio (when adhesive windmuffs added) and really really compact and pretty affordable. Panasonic/Sony look alright on paper... but in practice don't quite manage to deliver a similar allround package (I wish the LX100 II would've nailed it, but it's was more than underwhelming, it was a joke; the Sony RX100 VI isn't great either (the RX100 VA is close, but has its own troubles)). Not to say Canon is perfect, I can't help but keep hating on 'em for regurgitating old hardware, having underwhelming specs and even crippling cameras (like no DPAF in 4K, crazy crops, no 24p, etc). But... they're nailing the point-n-shoot and ease of use aspects of these cameras, that's why so many YouTubers still rely on the in meanwhile >3 yr old G7 X Mark II. They care about content creation. Quickly grab your camera from your pocket. Hit record. Come home, don't waste too much time tweaking the image, be uploading as soon as you can. Surely if you want to create cinematic pieces I would recommend a completely different camera, as I always say: 'get the right tool for the right job'. That could just as well just be a smartphone (Huawei P30 Pro, Sony Xperia 1, etc). That can also be a Panasonic Lumix GX9. It's always about 'making the best compromise'... and you gotta find out whatever that is to you. -- speaking of which: https://www.canonrumors.com/here-is-the-canon-powershot-g7-x-mark-iii/
  17. Problem with the latter is... in many places once you add a camera, they already don't consider flying for the modelflying hobby itself anymore and even then (regardless of weight/kinetic energy) you're subjected to strict rules. Especially when that footage is being used other than for personal purposes (e.g. a monitized YT video). They got no chill. And even if you would go the official route of getting exempted to fly (which is costly and cumbersome), you're pretty much restricted to grass fields in the middle of nowhere where you need permission of the owner of said land and you have to give notice of every flight to the authorities, etc. So... the streets are Carmageddon, but a little rc multirotor flying around is the real threat to public safety apparently. It's overregulated to shits I tell you. The only reason to still pick one up I'd say is holidays/travel if you know the countries where you are going to don't really give too much shit about your 'drone' and/or don't really enforce laws that scricty (e.g. locations where it's okay for 5 people and 3 chickens to be on a 2 persons moped without helmet).
  18. When I think F35 I think Ed David... Such a wicked piece. Think he sold his... ?

Kamlan's 50mm f/1.1 has gotten a version II. First indeed was a bit of a novelty toy lens, but the seem to have stepped it up quite a bit. Being offered now on: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kamlan/kamlan-50mm-f11-mk2-prime-lens-for-mirrorless-cameras At the bottom of that campaign they've listed some 'social influencers' if you will, that have been given an early hands on, such as Dustin Abbott and Christopher Frost: etc

Interesting for sure, though... a little iffy without any history? I suppose not the same folks that were behind the VM Lens... http://anamorphicshop.com/product/vm-lens/ Shame Veydra called off their anamorphic endavours. Or any endavours right now... looks like they haven't been up to anything in recent years... there's a couple of Facebook posts sort of denying they've closed up shop for good, but that's actually what seems to be the case here.
  21. That's already much better than the pretentious random promotional B$ they served up before. Haven't seen any European listings yet... but is it true that it's $199 or €199 for the V-LOG upgrade package for the Lumix S. But the lens instead of translating from $1799 to €1799 is actually €1999 (~ $2239)? ?
  22. Meizu's been one of the longer-lived Chinese manufacturers out there, they were very popular with their mp3-players and then went into smartphones (kinda like Apple iPod -> iPhone). But... they've never been much of a top tier choice. Possibly because of their Android based Flyme OS that nobody felt like embracing. Outside of China I haven't seen much interest and talk about what they've been doing these last few years. Xiaomi/Pocophone/Redmi, OnePlus, ZTE Nubia, OPPO, Vivo, etc is pretty much where it's at. Here's 3 sites you can find out all about what's going on in the world of Chinese mobile phones (and perhaps like-minded folks to ask questions about 'em)... https://www.gizchina.com/category/phones/ https://www.gizmochina.com/category/news/ https://www.kimovil.com/en/
