Next level, that.

Well, Melbourne's Formula 1 circus didn't go ahead this weekend, so it's esports now... race wins for Max Verstappen either way. ๐ Good boom that, for esports right now I imagine.

Damn. I know they say 'if you have it, flaunt it'. But do they really got to flex on us like that. Geez. I would love to own a set like that someday. I know it's a lot of money, they're really sought-after, but you know they say it's a solid investment... can't see that going down the drain anytime soon... or wait...

This! Besides, they've already said that the virus only really survives and transmits through close human contact. You can risk a whole lot by getting cheap stuff from China that endangers your well-being (especially low-grade electronics, with built-in rechargeable batteries), but non of those really includes catching a virus through a package. But unless properly used and precautions taken a mask really is pretty useless.

Yup, it is more hassle. True. I hope I can atttend IBC2020 and not that it falls through either. Jup, I mentioned that. I didn't say it was a good lesson or that I'm pleased to see it, it's just an observation and projection. But you've been seeing it with major brands having already commited to NOT appearing on shows like these. Same for the car industry and e.g. the Geneva autoshow. They're the ones who go 'yeah, we ain't paying all that money to be on these shows and do a dick measuring contest with the competition 'who has the biggest booth' again, we out, we'll do our own thing'. Same for the Mobile World Congress. Huawei has been doing their own launch events for a few years now, rather than pulling up there. The consequence is that these big fish are needed to fund these events. So when they bugger off... the whole concept kinda implodes in on itself and it takes the small fish with them. But it's heading that direction? That's why the opening question 'What do we think about the future of conventions/floor shows as a whole anyways?'. Can we combat it? How would we? Alternatives?
-
Those numbers are off by quite a margin by now.

What do we think about the future of conventions/floor shows as a whole anyways? I think it is a lesson for all these companies to create their own little launch events for selected media, influencers and business professionals/customers and keep away from mass organized events. Which... was a direction this was going anyways, this just accelerated things by a whole lot. Of course this mainly hurts the small companies that people might not know about but bump into at one of these shows.

A country should be governed by a government, not a toddler dictator that goes from 'we got this, it's just a flu, nothing to see here people, don't worry, business as usual' to 'DEFCON 5! RED ALERT! LOCKDOWN PROTOCOL INITIATED!' in a fingersnap, relies on his flawed personal judgements rather than listening to expert advice. Well, one thing's for sure, we haven't seen the last of it yet. Man, simple island life just living of the land doesn't seem so bad right now.

I got the bunch of f/2.8D ED ones after I found out about their 'Bourne' affiliation. ๐ 17-35, 28-70 & 80-200mm. Nikkors like that are proper workhorses!

Haha, I bet you'll enjoy this one too @kaylee

I guess both of you have the same common focus ' x works for me. You do you and use what you use, I don't care'. There's no hate towards FF aside from the FF shooters that pretend it is the one and only and best way as of course it depends and it is not.

Well, there ya go. ๐

I'm waiting for conspiracy theorist to say it's all a ploy by governments to combat overpopulation. Though, that must already be out there, I'm just not looking for it.

Luckily I have the Feelworld F6 Plus then... Which kinda sucks if you were to have a Vazen 1.8x I just realize. ๐ -- tracking just got updated for delivery today already --- and the late afternoon brought it in then, alright: Now I gotta dig up my gear tomorrow (everything's still pretty much in the moving boxes).

M4/3. Samesies. Haven't shot anamorphic since the GH4 and Kalart Victorscope 2x experiment... which I didn't really enjoy that much. Probably should be looking into the GH5's anamorphic mode and how to get the most out of it before it gets here (as it's already monday here, that should be tomorrow).

Yeah, as posted elsewhere I'd like to see: Panasonic going back to a single flagship in the GH-model like it always was before splitting it up and launching the G9 and GH5S. Just give me a G9 type of body with huge EVF and top LCD. Dual native ISO tech from the GH5S, but with IBIS of course. Would be great if they could do what JVC did with the GY-LS300 and do the trick thing where they had an APS-C sensor behind the MFT mount. If they could do the Olympus thing and actually use phase detect autofocus. Depth from de-focus is a nice additional method, but it should never be the main method of focus, it was just betting on a wrong horse. They should come to their senses already and like everyone else do phase detect AF already. And then take some things from Blackmagic, like the simplified interface. Internal ProRes recordings. Weird is, they've kept people teased and informed about the GH5 way before it actually shipped. What it would do... what later firmware would give it etc. Now it's just nothingness. And with their recent past with a bit lacklustre updates... and Olympus not really stepping up big time either, you'd begin to wonder if it's the start of the end for MFT. Certainly hope not and that the GH6 will be a monster! We need to, I have a shit ton of lenses in native MFT mount. Stuff like from Vazen and DZOFILM even is exclusive to it. So... fingers crossed. ๐ค

So... got word that they're now shipping. One backer on Indiegogo reported to have theirs in already. Who else is expecting one? ๐ Which mount did you order it in?

Used to be just for the pure enjoyment. Now, this year I'll look to see if doing it commercially on the side is viable (like, right now my work has got me scheduled off for a month (paid tho), so I might as well do something productive in that time). I hate the idea of having to shoot weddings, so, Imma focus on real estate as the bread and butter job. Perhaps can do some other more corporate style gigs, maybe in-house videos for companies, advertising, product shoots. At some point it would be cool to get into the fashion/music scene for more creative stuff. Maybe shorts. Still a bit clueless how to approach the whole doing it commercially thing and what to charge indeed. Probably more of an experiment at first. I'm not really too keen on doing things the way other people want me to and falling into the trap of merely being a puppet. Also, I love lighting/shooting but I rather dislike editing. But maybe there will be some cool collaborative efforts that actually do turn out to be great fun.

Eye sight getting away from ya? ๐ 12mm f/2.0 it reads on the lens (used to be the one that came in silver... and the black version was the premium 'limited edition' at a high price, later they actually just made it standard and is more of a regular price now). Actually, I do like the fact that you get a nice solid camera body, with front-facing screen, solid C-AF, best IBIS in the biz and just very fuzzless. Just, maybe not to jump at it at market launch price, whilst having the GH5 and G9 around that are still very capable and have some edging features.
-
Hope so. I liked my D5300, apart from the mirror flippin shenanigans. Sensor results were very nice looking. Back then I wished it was mirrorless already, with all the perks and innovation associated with mirrorless like indeed IBIS! The Z50... bit of an EOS-M style product. Think the Z-mount is one of the best in terms of versatility, no? Width and flange distance wide. Would adapt just about anything you could throw at it (and I have a bunch of native F-mount lenses that could use their adapter). So it has merit. Hopefully they're noticing the regular folks that used to buy DLSRs are now going full in on smartphones for casual photography and that they really need to appeal to people shooting hybrid/video on a more enthusiast/pro level now. I like the way Panasonic/Olympus/Fujifilm have rolled into that the way they did, wouldn't mind picking up any of their latest cameras. The others, aside from FF (although...), have their work cut out for them.
-
Yeah, I'm really hoping for a baller GH6. Hopefully they ditch the idea of separating the flagships into G/GH/GH_S and just go back to the single GH already. Give it the G9 style body with huge EVF and top LCD. Put in an APS-C sensor like JVC did which enables some cool tricks like digital lossless zoom, different crops etc. Like Olympus did, don't go with contrast based AF, just do phase detect already. And then I want to see some Blackmagic features, like ProRes recording internally! If MFT cameras really are a dying breed with little to no effort going into it from the manufacturers (shame for MFT-mount specific products such as Vazen anamorphics and DZOFILM cinezooms)... boy... I'm so heavily invested into MFT/married to it, it would be a challenge to change systems now. I do not wish to get into fullframe. It's never been about the bodies, that's how we interact with what we're doing, needs to be ergonomic and solid, have all the ports and features we require. For me it's always been about lens size (and price: bigger is usually more expensive, unless you go full pro with the smaller systems, but even then I'll show you some FF options that are way more costly). The option to keeps things relatively compact... or have lenses that do quite the range with a small footprint is priceless. And of course, nobody's keeping one from still using FF lenses if needed to. I'd take S35/APS-C too. I think 4/3" sensor performance is catching up, but S35/APS-C just hits the sweetspot. But I don't care for Sony's approach with APS-C E-mount. Might as well just get a FF Sony since their APS-C line-up doesn't have much going for it. Canon EOS-M... maybe if you're a soccer mom or a brainwashed YouTube vlogger. Nikon Z APS-C, not hitting its full potential unfortunately. Fujifilm's where it's at and it's good to see the progress they've made. They were similar to Olympus, one of the classics and highly stills focused. But they've started to embrace video more and more. Not quite fully Panasonic yet. But it's getting there. Soon enough they will be the path to follow for those who come from MFT should Panasonic not step up for us. In transitioning I agree it would be great if it were possible to keep using our existing MFT arsenal. E.g. my Veydras... all MFT mount. Sirui anamorphic just got confirmed to be shipping... MFT mount. Voigtlรคnder... etc... you've guessed it! So thumbs up for whoever can make it happen.

I mean... if you want to sell an X-T4, you ain't going to be doing much for your existing product at the same time, that's just marketing 1:1.
