Not sure what they do, I never visit that sinkhole. xD _ But on the topic of lenses... the new Huawei (Leica partnership) P20 Pro has 4 of 'em (rear 3 cam combines to a Vario-Summilux-H1 27-80mm f/1.6-2.4 ASPH.), sensor size = 1/1.78" which is quite huge for a smartphone (that's not a CM1 or something). https://consumer.huawei.com/en/phones/p20-pro/ Official launch was earlier this afternoon. Incredible piece of kit if you ask me. It leaps ahead of the first closest thing from Samsung with a whopping 10 extra DxOMark points: https://www.dxomark.com/huawei-p20-pro-camera-review-innovative-technologies-outstanding-results/ ... who conclude that it's a game changer. Curious to find out what it's like for video. It does do 960fps slowmo (720p) and AIS (they find EIS/OIS doesn't quite work, but when you use AI, you can get much better results) and AF seems impressive. Guess we'll find out!

I think you're the one failing to connect the dots, mate. That's something we've already seen: & Jon merely points out the DPReview did a half-assed job reporting on the findings of said article.

Hey, I didn't get a pm to help support this April fools joke and be in on it... well... guess I'll go along anyways. WOAH! Promising! Dang, can't believe I didn't pull the trigger way back when it was bottom dollar (but erm, well EUR). So stoked for this! Give the guy some time! What a hero.

Ha, I knew there was a connection there. :P Glad things are sorted out now! Now for the tedious bit... mounting! But you've seen this right?
-
Other than the 2 you've described... I doubt it. What you could possibly do is... take another system's teleconverter that's both able to adapt C-mount and adapt to M4/3? E.g. the Sigma APO TC 1.4x DG in EF mount. EF-mount can be adapted to M43 and is able to adapt C-mount itself. Atleast... that's my theory... (might be too much protruding parts to adapt the shallow C-mount adapter though).

They had to put something out there, because GH4 users were getting impatient and wanted to upgrade (some would even go as far as using the G7 over it on projects) and the competition was tempting potential system newbies with their offerings. They knew what the camera theoretically was capable of and had probably tested some of that functionality, that still needed some tweaking. At the time the GH4 was the Lumix flagship in every regard. They sure knew people cared for the video side of things from the GH2 and perhaps GH3. At that point what they hadn't explored was what the hardware actually was capable of, they only started messing about with that when the 4K GH camera started to really get some traction in the independent and professional industry and users started to ask if certain things could be done. Would've been too early for a completely new camera, so they brought V-Log L and the anamorphic mode for instance as experimental features covered by the (paid) firmware updates. With the new flagship generation they knew they couldn't ask photographers that wanted the best of the best, to pay a premium for features they 99% of the time would have no use for. So they decided to split up the line up. Development of 3 flagship cameras this time around probably took a bit more capacity then expected. But again, they needed to dangle the carrot in front of people, so they teased and announced the camera, released the camera quite a bit later and the full firmware took quite a while as well. This time around however the development and hardware capacity check happened prior to the camera hitting market, rather then when it was on market already. Right now they seem to have upped their segmentation game, keeping you wanting for more, never having it all. I'm doubtful they'll add as much new things the way they did with the GH4.

Want to start your Blog? Amazing Domain Names for sale!!
Cinegain replied to NewFilmMaker's topic in Cameras
If someone wants my CanonOK domain, I don't want to hold on to it any longer. -
Anything Russian for starters. Think: Zenit Helios, Jupiter, Industar, MIR, TAIR, et cetera. If you want something else special, try the Tomioka Auto Revuenon 55mm f/1.2. If you want soap bubble extravaganza try some of the original Optik Meyer Görlitz lenses (Trioplan, Domiplan, Orestor, Primotar, Lydith). Of course there's tons of others you could look at. There are a lot of dirt cheap nice Vivitar lenses out there, don't forget to check out the Carl Zeiss Flektogon line-up either. But I'd start with the Russians for sure.

Good to hear things are getting sorted! *thumbs up

Geez Louise, that sounds hella cumbersome. With the very few issues I had over the years it was pretty easy to pull my money back (even normal wire transfers (high fee though)). Used to think most creditcards would include helping you out up to 60 days, believe that even got extended to 180 days at some point. Guess things aren't that straight forward everywhere. Well, good luck, keep us up to date, curious about Veydra's fate. Guess owning a Veydra now will be like owning a unicorn.

Did you try to get a hold of Ryan Avery yet? Asked Matthew Duclos, Noam Kroll & Adam Wilt if they know anything about this disappearance act? They seemed pretty in the loop. And I would start a procedure with your creditcard company to get your money back...

Have you seen the video with Gordon Laing? This is even useless for vlogging in 1080p... they seriously need sensor stabilization... I mean, Fuji has come around and Canon is still playing the segmentation game. But the real ones to blame are the people that will still buy this crapgh.

Agreed, that's why the Olympus ones are interesting options. 7-14, 12-40 & 40-150mm f/2.8 zooms! With MF de-clutch rings! I get you want to offer a different product than your competition... but then don't make it worse. xD I guess they think people will appreciate the range more than the dropoff to f/4 I guess. Wish Olympus would pull another f/2 zoom like with their Four Thirds SWD! Such a shame I waited so long for pulling the trigger on one on sale and for sharing the fact that it was to others. Now it's gone and I'll never know if that would've been a killer combo...

Whehehe. I knew it. Typical Canon move again.

Mweh, it's the sum of all parts. Sony cams e.g. are very good on paper... yet they don't have a camera I'd actually pick up. I'm willing to compromise on some specs, as long as the camera overall outperforms others in terms of overall features, reliability, handling and ultimately bang for buck. And I guess as well the ability to keep lenses fairly small, the thing that really makes a system compact. That's why I went the GH2 route over the 600D/T3i back in the day.

I always confuse him with Mark Wahlberg for some reason. Then I'm like... wait... was Mark Walhberg really Jason Bourne? Was he in the Eurotrip movie doing 'Scotty doesn't know'? Was he the guy from: And them I'm like... ah yeah, no, that's Matt Damon.

I did get the E-mount conversion kit back in the day, because I was looking forward to the A6300 that still officially had to be announced. That turned out to be a bit of a bummer. Ryan used to be quite active on his Twitter up to like a half a year ago. I'm not sure Veydra is actively being run, there haven't been any developments... and I have seen a couple of videos where Ryan was a spokeperson for other companies (believe Schneider & Tokina), which might point to the fact he's (had to) moved on.

Something kinda like this: - edit, day later altn version with curve/slight color adjustment (it's funny how you see things could be differently with fresh eyes):

That I think too. Also wouldn't know who'd pick up a Canon G1X Mark III with something like that around... guess someone who really wants something with a big sensor and small footprint. Personally, I find there are better options out there though. Atleast with the M50 they're getting some things absolutely right for video/vlogger peepz: 4K, frontfacing vari-angle touchscreen (that's not blocked by an external microphone or tripod when mounted to one), dualpixel AF & microphone input. Still lacks sensor stabilization and probably some exposure/focus aids/overlays and more elaborate video specs. But atleast they're starting to get the basics right. Wonder about the price and what that 4K would actually look like... and/or how Canon decided to cripple it, I mean, it's Canon after all, they're the OG players in the segmentation game. Does say something about HDR output over HDMI... so... are they giving it an honest effort to close the gap with what the competition can do? Hum. We'll see. With any new camera release though... better not get your hopes up.
-
Seems they've pulled a G9 with the feather touch shutter and top display. Otherwise... much needed IBIS, although they only specify it working with FUJINON lenses without stabilization (doesn't neccessarily exclude third party lenses though?). No 4K60p... could be forgiven for that. Atleast touchscreen is there, but it isn't a front-facing one. F-LOG is internal now (I believe), but according the accessory image for headphone monitoring you'd still need the battery grip. Bit of a mixed bag... we'll have to see what they're squeezing out of that sensor now and how well IBIS and C-AF performs. Despite some inconveniences it could be a rather solid option at a better launch price than the GH5 and GH5S. But I'm not sure if I'm willing to switch systems for it, time will have to tell.

Yeah, wish more cameras would do that. Also because you can up the framerates of non-4K-but-still-more-than-FHD-footage. Like 2K or 2.5K/100p or whatever. Or even just 60p at 2K when some cameras can't quite make 60p work at 4K. 2K or 2.5K gives you that edge and flexibility over 1080p. Though, I've been saying that for the longest time now. GoPro embraced the different resolutions, but camera manufacturers in general don't see anything between 1080p and 2160p it seems. Even Blackmagic themselves... the 2.5K was merely a happy accident or something I feel like.

The best thing I've read in a while. Drunk you is evil but funneh. But giving your approach to filmmaking a good and deep thought isn't so bad.

Tbh, I haven't given my LX100 much love since the GX80 came around and can be paired up with a small zoom or prime. It's hard to distinguish one from another... That 12-32mm doesn't have a focus ring though, that's so weird, I keep turning it to focus and of course it zooms. xD It's mostly used with the Panaleica 15mm f/1.7 anyways. So, that's more for quick around the house kind of shots. Otherwise, for a compact carry around streetshooter cam to always have with you, the Ricoh GRII is one to watch. That's not too say that given a bunch of improvements the LX200 couldn't rock. The RX100M5 and G1X Mark III aren't really my thing. YouTube crowd loves the G7X series for vlogging. If they could make the LX200 with a vari-angle/frontfacing screen and a headphone jack, they could have a winner.

I mean, he said that he had taken notice of 'a certain hack circulating the interw3bs' sorta say. He just replicated said circulating hack to check its validity and shared his results with his audience. I certainly didn't get the impression he came up with the hack and proofing methods himself. Surely you can blame him for not properly giving credit or naming sources in particular, then again, with hacks like these, it's not too easy to point out the originating source for the hack, that usually requires some digging through numerous videos and posts... so instead you just say that the info was 'out there' and that you heard about it, rather than pointing to a specific source. Although, the thing with the lav mic is pretty much 1:1. Anyways, more YouTube drama over... what exactly? Surely we've got better stuff to do...
