  1. Ahhh... so, first you got to appoint a custom button to enable 'operation lock'... and only then can you activate operation lock for a couple of different other input methods like the DISP. btn.
  2. Partly agree, but I do really like the ALL-I 400Mbps motion compared to the LongGOP 150Mbps though, which I thought one could tell. Thought that was perhaps the point.
  3. Both IronFilm and HockeyFan12 mentioned '60p' just earlier... looking into it: 'The PMW-F3 has an HD-SDI Dual-link output connector which offers 4:2:2 1080 50/59.94p uncompressed signal output as standard. By using external recording devices such as HDCAM-SR recorders, users can achieve x 2.5 natural slow-motion playback in 1080/24p mode' and another official Sony page 'Dual Link and 3G HDSDI interfaces for: --10bit full uncompressed RGB 4:4:4 external recording --10bit YPbPr 4:2:2 1080/60P external recording'. So externally it's possible. Actually, that's what BenEricson mentions:
  4. I myself have been interested in the following: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/media-archive-solutions/ , might be worth having a look at.
  5. DualPixel AF? I prefer MF. Counter feature carried over to new cameras: IBIS. Canon colors? The post-GH4 generation actually has quite decent color. Counter feature: mirrorless bells 'n whistles, 4K & exposure/focus aids and overlays on every camera. APS-C/FF VS 4/3"? Canon noise performance on the APS-C models isn't much better. And you can bridge the gap with bright wide lenses (crop/depth of field) and focal reducers. Counter 'feature': much smaller lenses can be used with each camera. That's about the 3 things that could make me say 'ah, yeah, well, Canon does this', yet aren't close to being dealmakers for me. What I couldn't do much about would be having Canon 2010-ish 1080p that isn't even actual 1080p... so yeah, for me Canon is far worse, pushing you towards the C-line up or 1D_ or FF bodies that are a couple 'o grand each or having to ML the shit out of your camera with tedious workflows. Panasonic does give you a lot with their cameras, just they make very distinct separations between each, which is actually a benefit to the consumer... camera is smaller, less complex, cheaper to make = cheaper to buy. You want the better features? You pay more. Just, acceptably more (imho), rather than Canon that really just takes the piss out of consumers that buy cheaper cameras but hardly get much added benefit over a 2010 T2i/550D looking at the quality of the results. But you know, to each their own.
  6. Of course it's true. Actually as well for hardware, like the GX isn't intended to have CineLike profiles or an audio interface. So you're forced out of that category of camera if you want some more. Same goes for the G of course. They'll let it lack certain features making you ache for a GH. Though... atleast they do it in a sort of understandable fashion, like, from a business perspective. The segmentation game Canon is playing is far worse.
  7. Well, I managed to get the GH5 12-60mm Leica kit for effectively 2055,- EUR (not shying away from importing it from the UK, benefiting from a special trade-in bonus program). That's a 56,- up in body only retail price and lands you the Leica zoom with a retail price of 999,- EUR. Depending on whether I like it much more than the Lumix 12-60, I will either keep or sell it. Should I sell it for say 750, it would render the GH5 itself a 1305,- EUR camera body (~ $1555,-). You gotta turn into somewhat of a dealhunter and keep your eyes peeled.

I've read that. Could well be. I'd rather have them bring 'em out themselves at 800 pops or less, rather than in the 1000+ segment. But oh well. How do you find the character compared to the 'regular' Leica primes? Because the Leica prime-look kinda makes me think of painting-like, artsy, warm rendering... whereas both Sigma and Olympus PRO are more cold and precise tools with excellent sharpness, but otherwise not very lively.

That's a wonderful beast, you can just tell from the shear amount of glass compared to some of the other Veydras. It's the same vibe you get when you see the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 in person and that one doesn't disappoint either. @ Rinad Amir: nice trio... or well, quattro! How are you finding the 12-60mm? Haven't found any time to play around with it yet, want to see if it actually blows the Lumix one out of the water or if I should sell it off... definitely keeping my eyes open for a bargain 42.5mm f/1.2, I do love the new style primes!
  10. Hey, Philip Bloom here, send me one of them Kinefinity Terras. -- but all fun 'n jokes aside, that's pretty sad
  11. @DaveAltizer Uh, prolly '200D' like '550D' rather than 'D200' (Nikon-style), no? And is that how you pronounce the show's name? It sounds a little funky compared to traditional '-tica' words: https://findwords.info/ends/tica (I figured at first it would be 'Key-not-teak-ka', like 'kinetic' and 'electronica' not like 'key-noo-tea-ka'; might just be me tho, lol). - neways, otherwise, good luck with the new gig! :D You're a cool host. Still doesn't get me excited for a DSLR like that tho. -- it's interesting to see that quite a few vloggers opt for the quality, stability and reliability over the convenience over dualpixel AF and/or 'pretty straight out of camera Canon colors'... although, too little convenience is another roadblock... like getting a RED EPIC-Weapon and in the end finding it too much hassle to shoot with...
  12. Or copy & paste the 'posted ... ago' link.
  13. Actually, the 95 on the UHS-I is readspeed. It's R95/W90. And as I interpolated/logically tried to deduce, you'd need around W180MB/s or higher cards for sustained 400Mbit/s, because indeed, there's no direct translation between top out writespeeds MB/s or Mbit/s and the max. sustained ones (90MB/s -> 720 Mbit/s (not 760) you'd think would cover 400Mbit/s, but the '720' is a top out speed, not a tested minimum sustainable one). But comparetively the SanDisk 280/300 (R) cards rank in those speeds as V90 classified ones, so I'm feeling rather confident that they'll reach at least V60 speeds for the 400Mbit/s (50MB/s) required by the GH5 firmware upgrade. That officially you can not conclude any such thing, I am aware of, that's why I said: 'draw your own conclusions'. My conclusion personally is that's it's probably going to work with SanDisk 280/300 cards, but like Orangenz said, we'll find out in due time. Your conclusion is that: That remains to be seen. Exactly. And it's a good marketing ploy to ask good money for these more rare magic cards... but that doesn't mean all that much to me, to be honest. It's like Leica rebranding Lumix cameras or Hasselblad did with the Sony cams. Still the same, can't do anything more, just has a fancier name and look with a more premium price. Are you positive anything has changed from the previous to the current UHS-I R95/W90 with or without V30 logo on there..? Like I said, I'm not claiming a W90 card gives sustained 90MB/s, but if that gives V30, 30MB/s sustained... V60 probably needs a 180MB/s writespeed and that's all you need for the new GH5 firmware upgrade. The Panasonic V90 card and others typically do R280/W250. So to say SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-II with R280/W250 or R300/W260 won't work with the GH5 400Mbit/s period... well, howabout we just wait and see? Remember, in the GH2 hack days, the only ones that mattered were SanDisk Extreme Pro cards to keep up with all the continuous writing; I'm not giving up on them so quickly. Might be wrong of me, but we'll find out soon enough. But just because it's not officially guaranteed, doesn't mean it won't work just fine. I'm not all that black 'n white.
  14. You ever noticed this on the SanDisk UHS-II's tho ('4K @ 500 Mbps')?
  15. Well, @gethin , this again: Though I've seen one ADATA card with V90 classification that fails to follow this logic, but I would still prefer other cards because it does make me wary (dropped frames and whatnot). I personally will keep getting SanDisk cards, they've been holding up superbly since the GH2 and BMPCC days and I've tried many brands since, but SanDisk are the ones that has that lasting impression of high standard, high quality. Their R95/W90 cards later got classified as V30, so I can imagine the W280 and W300 cards will keep up fine too in the V60+ segment. V60 (or V90 if you feel like it) is basically what you'll need for the FW update (and wanting to use those high bitrate settings). Before 150Mbit/s ~ 20MB/s, V30 of not even, should do, but I'd buy stuff with an eye on the future.

  17. Pretty sure Filmriot and/or Andrew Kramer/Video Copilot did a video on exactly that. Am on mobile so a bit hard to search and link, maybe look for 'demon eyes vfx'.
  18. Like Oli said, lens choice is very personal and what Orangenz said too, sounds like you have a good idea of what's out there... There's no real traps to walk into these days. It's all about whatever fits a little bit better in with you style of shooting. As you can already see, some would go for the Sigma, others would not. Ultimately, it's you who has to make the decision. If at all possible, borrow one from a friend or rent one from a rental house, perhaps just go to a store and have a play with a couple. Maybe just find a really good deal that's hard to resist. Lenses keep their value quite well, so, you can always sell it off on the used market with probably the loss equivalent to a week's rental fee or something.
  19. My parents quite like their HDR tv on factory settings. On a vomit-o-meter scale however it manages an impressive tolerance of as low as 1.2 seconds for me. When I fixed it to something easy on the eyes, accurate and cinematic, they complained about it and made me change it back too... tomato faces and soap opera motion strikes again.

First one: https://geizhals.eu/?fs=Warm Black Pro Mist 1%2F8&cat=unsortiert . Just be aware... 55mm only and doesn't seem to ship outside of Germany. You can of course ask or use services such as logoix.com , https://www.mailboxde.com/ , https://www.parcl.com/ or https://www.bpm-lux.com/en/home.html that will forward it from a German delivery address to yours. Don't forget my extensive post on how to find deals:

Ooh, interesting, love me some more native mount Sigmas! The 30mm f/1.4 DC DN is killer, great value. Speaking of price, man, those EX DN 19mm & 30mm f/2.8 were around a hundred bucks each and optically super sound. Build quality however wasn't really something to write home about and the look otherwise wasn't all too exciting though. The DC DN definitely takes that up a notch. Interesting that they would aim for MFT not APS-C/E-mount coverage with a MFT option. Will they be joining the format with a camera of their own?
  23. Ah yeah, I just saw that. The RED had a weird like frosted milk bottle layer over it with a bit of a grey/green tint. So, colorwise the GH5 was way more appealing. I also think the small 4/3" sensor gives off more apparent sharpness where it hits the focus (usually noticeable with leafs, not to be confused with detail). Of course cinema cameras will always win in dynamic range (although the GH5 coped well with the sky, reflective hotspots were more of an issue). Was kind of disappointed with the lens. Not that interesting looking and a bunch of green fringing.
  24. haha, not sure, I came across it years ago, it was probably running the popular videos, it has over 16 million views, lol. Not sure how you'd go about finding the ones you remember. This didn't have any specific tags or description towards 'text to movie' or 'animated script', so I guess you'll just have to remember as much details as you can. 'htc evo vs iphone' was pretty much the title of this video, so I got lucky finding it again.
