  1. ntblowz had posted that image on page 2 of this topic already, but it's neat to have somekind of idea going on there! Sigma already has M4/3 Art lenses, the 19, 30 & 60mm f/2.8 DN A: http://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/product/art/a_19_28/ . This however seems to be the fullframe 24-35mm f/2: http://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/product/art/a_24_35_2/ . Without a modded mount. So either the mount is fixed EF. EF speedboosted or hot-swappable with other mount plates.
  2. Unfortunately yeah, just some multifunction all-in-one scanner & color laser printer, fax. It's not that great though, I thought it would be a fun project to print my own businesscards or photos even, but it doesn't handle the more thick high quality paper very well at all, so that was a bummer. Otherwise it's pretty sweet, though I do have a feeling the chip has like a expiry date configured into it and the printer says it will be running out of toner eventhough a particular color hardly ever been used... also, you have to change the color toner if they're out before you can continue printing B&W which would be readily availlable. That's some bullshit. They really like to screw you sideways like that. So yeah, next time no more somewhat expensive Samsung either (I had an Epson Color laser printer before it, it was basic, but atleast it was great at printing; I kinda hate inkjet, because the cardridges dry out quickly, yet the ink smudges on & warps paper). After almost frying my GH2 with the cheapest Chinese import (DSTE) batteries I could find... I swore that shit off. I'm currently very content with Patona, a European brand. Atleast someone that should adhere to European imposed quality standards and someone to hold accountable if things go south. Another one that's alright is Chili Power. Heard decent things about EX-PRO or something as well, not familiar with though. For action cams I use the stuff from Telesin. They have an official store on AE: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/630476 . Good for your GoPro and YI action cam accessories. Yeah, they might be Chinese, but I have experience with them and they might sell OEM stuff, because you can hardly tell a difference with their accessories and the official thing, where other knock-offs really fall short.
  3. Yeah, it's like them printer manufacturers with their cardridges and toners. The printer is almost free, the cardridges/toners cost a fortune. It's usually cheaper to buy a new printer with a starter kit than original refills (seriously, that's what I used to do... though now I have a bit more advanced color laser printer fax wireless NFC thingamajig from Samsung). Luckily... like original batteries for camera equipment, there are some decent products from others on the market if you don't settle for the absolute cheapest but do a little research. For storage for the new Panasonic, like I mentioned, it would be cool if they did the mSATA USB thumbdrive thing that Videodevices does for the PIX-E5. For out-and-about storage I was thinking btw of the Samsung Portable SSD T3, but seems the WD/Western Digital all new My Passport SSD USB-C 3.1 should be shipping out very soon. I like how compact and fast these puppies are.
  4. They also said the autofocus was going to hit it out of the park. Homerun? More like, back home to the drawing board. But time will tell.
  5. Yeah, over a year ago*, we were still discussing what a GH5 could/should look like and about the possibility of an APS-C sensor, to which I said: But the fact that they're showing off the 'A' on the lens, an existing lens... 'Sigma Art', and a fullframe one at that and not trying to hide that, makes me highly doubt this is in the works, though. It would actually be sorta cool if they only offered two flavors of factory speedboosted mounts: 'Contax/Zeiss and Leica-R' and said 'go use that'.
  6. Well, you've said it yourself... the LS300 adds so much, just by having a different sensor size. Plus, maybe the GH5 has a little bit better highlight roll-off, but its dynamic range still sorta pretty much sucks (but I'm glad to take the penalty and try to make it work, because it's so damn small and lightweight) and if you want to go from shot grabber to cinema style, it really helps to have that dynamic range on your side. IBIS... surely would be great, but I highly doubt any of these type of production cameras will have it anytime soon. I'd probably keep it tripod bound 90% of the time anyways, to be honest. That's also why I think it's a different beast from the GH5 that you would in fact use more handheld and for getting all them angles. Like I said before, the GH5 now has that XLR unit and you could use the Aputure DEC vari-ND, but surely having that on the camera itself alreay can't be the only thing it has to offer. Everybody's so obsessed with Blackmagic, because you get thick material with tons of dynamic range that can be pushed around quite a bit. Now, straight-up internal ProRes/RAW might be a litle too much to ask, but if they can deliver lovely images from a S35 sensor... then man, this is a force not to be reckoned with! Answering your question for me requires the knowledge of the price this thing will be labelled at... if it tries to compete with all the others at a fair price, it has to come with that S35 sensor. If it's merely thought of as a production style GH5 and priced only at a fair up from the GH5, like similar to the DVX200/LS300 at around $4k, then the sensor size isn't a dealbreaker. I've also been saying* that they should release two cameras. The GH5 and then the VC5, a VariCam version of the GH5 that's production ready, so actually, they might've listened to earlier me and are now walking around with dropped jaws because I'm telling them to do S35. But again... depends on the price. But they're the ones that are showing this with a Sigma lens and not promoting their new line-up that has an improved iris for video and whatnot, so... they brought this on themselves. There's certainly something to say for S35 and frankly... I would love it. But here as well. I've always known what's up from the GH4, yet, that never let me to buy a Canon Cx00, URSA Mini, FS5 or anything... priced attractively... and I really might. Again, if it wants to compete with the established guys in that corner of the market, they need to bring it. But I think there's not really going to be much that will separate it from the competition... but the thing they can do is fill the gap between your GH4, GH5, NX1, X-T2, A7S, A7SII, A7RII cameras and those other guys at over $5k and compete on price. I think that would be the move here. But we'll see I guess. * 7 months ago... First thing this year: Just... the GH5 might've been an awesome step up, but never really went all-in on the VariCam-heritage and productivity I was hinting at. They've put it right there on 1999, so that kinda reflects that. But it's really exciting to see that they're working on something up from that. It really comes down to pricing for me now.
  7. Hence the 'but you know...', you know. Though the argument for a native EF mount is pretty weak and mine was more illustrating the fact a shallower mount is more flexible. Now we even have Kinefinity releasing an E-mount adapter for their system, you know. Not sure if the diameter of the MFT imposes a restriction on lenses that even do cover APS-C, but anyways, there's very shallow adapters for m4/3 - E-mount, non exist the other way around... so, that's still a thing.
  8. You can't just put the GH5 into a bigger body, slap a huge price on it and call it a day. I mean, you have the XLR unit for on top of your GH5 now and can use the Aputure DEC vND EF-mount as well. BOOM! Done. They also can't create a Varicam LT with the exact same specs in half the size and price. But to give it some proper production value the S35 is just about a must. It will especially help to more easily get some great dynamic range and lovely colors going for it, the thing we all expect to see out of a camera like that. Of course, it would also be one less reason for people to look at other cameras that are in fact S35, which kinda is the production standard. Should help with the crop and in turn to easier establish a shallower depth of field as well I guess (nice with S35/APS-C lenses, but I do see an issue here if it does in fact come with a native EF-mount, because... how are we supposed to speedboost fullframe lenses then??? So yeah, seems to me it makes more sense to bring out cameras with the shallowest mount possible for most flexibilty, E-mount would be ideal here, since that even adapts MFT, but you know...). So... I think dynamic range & color science is what people will really appreciate. Other than that, just to have something that's all-in-1 and covers the basic conveniences such as ND filters (evND?), XLR interface, more controls, awesome flip-out screen, long battery life, ability to run it offa external power, things like that. No more frankensteining with little cages and coldshoe mounts, external monitors, magic arms, ballheads and cable jungle. Just drop it on a tripod and hit record. Speaking of which... for a recording media it might be interesting to pull a Videodevices on this... see, they have the PIX-E5 recorder and use a so-called 'SpeedDrive'. They will sell you empty enclosures which house a mSATA drive and functions as a USB3.0 thumbdrive. You can buy like a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB mSATA drive for about 100,-. You'd just pop it in your camera and once you're done: fuzzless and speedy offloading onto a computer. The mentioned Samsung mSATA drive is rated at 520MB/s writespeed. Should be no problem for high-bitrate recording anything I imagine. Concerning that, I'm guessing this will write away files similar to the GH5, but can do it all internally. So... you get that 4:2:2 10-bit 60p at 400Mbps and FHD slow-mo at up to 180fps. The big difference? It would additionally support RAW output to an external recorder, though it would of course be great if they could manage that internally or give us internal ProRes. Just... probably not. Anyways. Legit reasons to get one, but no groundbreaking ones. It wouldn't really be innovative or do mind-boggling things. But it would be a superb step-up for people with GH-range cameras. Because that's always been the question... where do you go from a GH-camera? But then it all comes down to pricing... they're not suddenly going to sell a ton of these if they're exactly in the range of Blackmagic/Sony/Canon/Kinefinity/2nd hand RED/etc... these are systems that will get you far north of $5k, more like 10k once you're fully configured and accessorized. If it does nothing that hasn't been done before... why bother at all? That's where the price comes in. If you're a small production house, maybe just a single dude or dudette doing his/her thing, 10k is quite a stretch to up your productions from the GH5 to something with a little more oomph. It's far more likely to get people looking for a step-up from their GH-range camera interested in something like a JVC GY-LS300 or something 2nd hand perhaps. But... if you can get a camera as described above... for a little bit more than say the launchprice of the LS300 or DVX200, so perhaps 4995,- then I forsee a bright future for it. So for me, I'd be pretty stoked to see, whilst being fairly realistic about it: S35 sensor with great dynamic range and color science a fairly compact professional body with ND filters, XLR interface, plenty of controls and easy navigation/menus GH5 resolution/framerates, all capable of being recorded internally RAW output $4999 Like an AG-AF100 successor with 2017-like Panasonic specs. A mash-up of things I like about the JVC LS300 & Panasonic DVX200/GH5/AF100. Not a hardcore cinema camera, more something to use as a production camera, where the GH5 would start to feel a little out of its element. Still great options with the GH5, though. And it does have that 5-axis B.I.S. and all that good stuff that makes it the most perfect B-cam. They should compliment eachother rather well. Should this come in at 6999-9999, well... tough...
  9. Well, when I was unfamiliar with the site I always imagined it would be a bunch of Canon dweebs here discussing their cameras. I figured it wasn't worth looking into, as I had nothing to do with that myself (it's the fact you made the GH2 Patch Vault that I joined up here and saw what else it was about, otherwise, like DVX- and REDuser, I'd still be thinking it's for certain dweebs into a certain corner of the market, rather than it in general). But it shows that commiting to a brand or resolution/definition standard can be tricky. That's why I suggested 'reidvision' and not 'lumix4k'. I mean, when you're in a relationship with a girl, it might be fun to get a tattoo of her name... but maybe not such a good idea in the long run... 'cause... who knows? The Philip Bloom and Zacuto shootouts and the great efforts by mr. Personal-View Vitaliy as well as Nick Driftwood are probably the reason I started my journey into interchangeable lens cameras with the Panasonic GH2. Canon/EOS never managed to reel me in. Sony could never either... I was close to jumping the A6300, but was glad I didn't when I found out it wasn't as great as it seemed on paper after all... gave both Nikon (D5300) and Olympus (E-M1) a fair shot, but how good they are for stills doesn't make up for the lack in the video department. Not sure what the future will hold... so no use fanboying over EOS or Lumix. I guess EOSHD is short and kinda catchy. I'll give you that. The 5DmkII, guys like Vincent LaForet, they did kinda start the whole HDSLR-thingie rolling. Maybe it was Panasonic and Sony who really gave a snowballing spin to it... but I guess EOS is a nice reminiscent of the goo' ol' days.
  10. Speaking of templates, have you ever contemplated changing the site's name? To reidvision.com or something?
  11. Depends. Different purpose cameras. If you needed all that, chances are you already have something like it. If not, it's a very nice upgrade path! Agreed. But... the GH5 still makes for a nice handheld compact shooter with IBIS and all that. Certain advantages the new other camera won't have. They probably compliment eachother really well.

I wasn't the hugest fan of the early Leica stuff. Basically they were Lumix-vibe lenses with sort of a faint Leica hint. But boy, the more recent Leica primes, they look the part, they perform the part. Though... they cost the part. Lol. The 15mm f/1.7 is actually really affordable and super practical, that's something I really like, but the 42.5mm f/1.2 and 12mm f/1.4, argh, bro! I just don't know. Also love the Olympus PRO stuff, but... they are a little bit more on the clinical side, like a Scarlett Johansson cyborg bot, sexy is hell, but if you want some humanization, raw emotion, passion and character... dang, Leica's always been good for that decade after decade!
  13. They are trying to say 'look how small the camera is in relation to the lens'. The bigger the lens, the smaller the camera seems to be. I have no doubt it is a Varicam Lite, S35 EF mount with GH5 headlining features (in terms of resolution/framerates etc) put in a professional body at roughly the launchprice of the DVX200 which was 4195 USD (which is about the same ballpark the JVC GY-LS300 was announced at). They literally positioned it in between the LT and GH5... that was the problem before, where you go from a GH4? Though, it's a shame your whole lens line-up, if that would be MFT alone, would be wasted on this (points for JVC). Then again, you can just get a whole lot more out of S35, which also is the industry standard. As long as it sticks around 5k and has an accessible and affordable eco-system, it would be real nice. Because on the other side you have your URSA Minis, Sony FS cameras, Canon Cx00 range, Kinefinity, 2nd hand RED packages, etc. And that kinda drives you more in the direction of 10k kitted out with a bunch of accessories needed.
  14. Seems the LUT makes everything... Orange.
  15. Yeah, what's up with that. That's not introducing a solution... just a bigger problem.
  16. Their site always gives me cookies! Luckily those are of the fat-free kind, 'cause man! Yeah, to be honest, I don't think they're going to release any other A9 versions. That's just one high-end stills camera. Like... Canon has the 1D X line-up for that. Ok, given, they had that 1D C once upon a time, not sure what they're planning there?? Like... for the A7-series it kinda makes sense that they have the A7S and A7R line-up as well. Here as well Canon is doing the same with the 5D line-up. 5D Mark IV, 5Ds & 5Dsr. It's easier to sell more different 'cheap' ones, than it is expensive ones.
  17. I tried to mash-up something like that once... Yeah, if only it were that easy... xD They should indeed have some kind of hotshoe on the side, no fuzz with cables either, you just click it in, it locks and feeds it with a video with some kind of interlinked connector. But what a rubbish approach anyways. If they were able to do the BMPCC... can't they just take the GH5 housing and make an epic BMPCC 2.0? With like 2.5 or 4K ProRes/RAW DNG? I'm not sure there's a cinema camera with sensor stabilization, I don't think one will exist for a long long time either. Or here's another mash-up I've thought of: I figured Nikon could enter the APS-C mirrorless market by getting giving the NX1 an update to the Nikon mirrorleX NX2... including vari-angle touchscreen and sensor stabilization! Of course, I'm not opposed to Blackmagic running away with that concept and turning it into a cinema machine! Just, after the BMPCC there weren't really any like stills camera formfactor cinema cameras anymore... everything had to be frankenrigged, and who really wants to deal with that? On the other hand, I do think that BMD received a lot of crap for the BMPCC from people who were total n3wbz and had no idea what the camera actually was. It's just not a Canon Ixus that you point 'n shoot... so like 3DR Solo... I think they are like 'fuck those puny little consumers, let's deal with professionals only... they have deep pockets! And you've got to lure big fish in with big bait!'.
  18. I have the GH4. Tell you what, I like the G80 better. The G80 is more like a mini GH5 getting you 90% there at more than 50% off. Compared to the 3 years old GH4 it is so much more satisfying to work with for both process and results. Like the guys before me already said, the GH4 doesn't have scope/waveforms and it's silly to demand that out of a camera... or the operator. Most of it is overkill for most people anyways. Hell, you can let me shoot on film on a Panaflex Millennium XL2, give me a RED Weapon Helium, Sony F35 or ARRI Alexa SXT EV to shoot with and I would have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to do with that. A camera having or not having certain features doesn't mean anything without context and purpose. And then there's the subjectivity of an opinion or something even intangible like how the whole thing 'feels'. There's no definite right or wrong... after all: 'it depends'. For me, the G80 is awesome to work with, hasn't got anything to do with automatism. I usually go for manual settings with manual focus. I do go for handheld a lot, like quite a few of us we're roughly just one-man-bands doing a lot of stuff out in the real world opposed to studios. Sure you can carry a tripod with you at all times, but even with a fluidhead... the camera pivots around a stationary position. Movies are also called 'motion pictures', so there's a lot to say about the inclusion of motion and if you use lenses like SLR Magic, Voigtländer, cinema primes like the Veydra Minis or adapt third party lenses that you speedboost, you will know how to appreciate the sensor stabilization! Of course if you want to edit static shots together, that's one creative choice that can be made, but don't be so rash as to dismiss other approaches one might take either. There's no denying the GH4 is still a great tool for productivity, but it certainly isn't the end-all. Especially if you're just starting out, you really want to go for a 3 years old camera because it has some features that could benefit productivity, but you might likely not be using? Especially if your focus and passion lies with the creative aspect of storytelling and not the technical aspect of filmmaking. Btw, the G80 is a technical masterpiece in its own right, really. It has build upon the generations that came after the GH4... G7, GX80/85, GX8, so it's really up to snuff. Again, no absolute right or wrongs here and no need to get worked up over nothing, would be sad to see someone go for no good reason! Just take a sec... a nice cold brewski a good night's sleep and put it behind you and let's move on together to new and better discussions!
  19. Poke the bear to find out as much as you can about http://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-teases-the-launch-of-a-new-mft-compact-cinema-camera/ ?
  20. First Casey, now for the next! Will the GH5 be the new T2i?
  21. With the GH5 you can use shutter angle, no?
  22. I've heard he just came back from Las Vegas and has converted to Sony fanboy all of a sudden... wonder what happened down there.

I love the 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro by Olympus for the same reason, because you get that pretty sick wide field of view without all the distortion. But... the Laowa is super compact and indeed has a filter thread (49mm), no 3D printing required, lol!
