  1. Btw, on the backside of the SanDisk Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-II U3 280MB/s packaging it gives you a little table for '64GB recording time' with the notion '4K @ 500 Mbps - 16 minutes'. So you'd think, regardless of the Vx0-classification that's missing, they've kept in mind that you'd actually use this for 'cinema-quality 4K' (also on the packaging) with high bitrates. It's much cheaper than the V90 badge ones. No guarantees of course.
  2. Massdrop occasionaly opens sales for the K7XX, basically a re-badged AKG K702 65th-anniversary edition. They're alright. If you're looking for budget cans, Superlux (e.g. HD-668 B) ain't so bad.
  3. Stuff like this has been discussed before, they're just a forum/google search away.
  4. Hey, if Apple is the thing that conforts you... power to you! Throw all reasoning out of the Windows. It's like saying 'you need this car! It's fucking amazing!'... 'but uh... it isn't IKEA proof... and that's like the top most quality I'm looking for in a car'. Different folks, different strokes.
  5. No hate against Apple here, but I just don't see the point for myself. For others, yeah, it's a nice minimalistic hip approach to hardware/software and people from all walks of life would instantly be able to use one, because it's so intuitive. Creative people have more capacity for their art, because they've kept things simple and well integrated. If you don't do much more than reading e-mails, browsing the web and use Final Cut Pro, then, what else do you even need? The integration of devices within the eco system is pretty awesome. But... I've been messing around with computers since forever. We had computers with screens that weren't black 'n white, they were black and green. They'd take these huge ass flopping around floppy disks that made crazy sounds when reading/writing. Our operating was just DOS you know. Windows 3.11 was breathtaking and I've seen everything from Windows 95 through Windows 10 Pro. Every now and then someone ditched a computer and I took the best parts out of 'em and put 'em together in one system. I'd gotten used to stuff needing a bit of knowledge and experience. But... you'd end up with something where you'd exactly know what's what. Same with Android smartphones and tablets, although that turned more to the software side of things (but also I have no problem changing a little circuit board with a messed-up microUSB-port that's not willing to charge the battery anymore, or switching out a cracked display), I used to run roots, recoveries, ports, decompile shit, flash it. Though, in all honesty, I'm glad we're now seeing OTA just about everywhere, because I just can't be arsed anymore. On the hardware side, you can get anything from dualSIM to expandable storage and IR blasters on 'em though. Windows 10, it actually works really well for me and it gives me the freedom to indeed have options... on the hardware part: what kind of display do you want? Glossy? Matte? Touchscreen? FHD? QHD? What's the design supposed to look like? Do you want an optical drive? What connectivity do you prefer? And what is all of that allowed to cost? You get a sick Intel i7 core processor and Nvidia graphics card in systems that are super fair about the price. Then the options regarding software... I indeed get to run my more exotic programs... play games (though, I used to be able to find more time to actually play some, don't get to do much gaming these days) and just the whole freedom of how you want to use your computer and what the interface is like as well. Same with Android though, that might be too much choice for people, they don't like to occupy themselves with that kind of nonsense as their time is better spent. For people with a Windows background, there's nothing to get used to, they're fine with it and as one of those folks... I really don't want things pre-chewed and spoonfed to me. I like the messing about, options and control and wouldn't really have it any other way. Then there's just the whole elitist/status that goes with Apple. I'm a practical kinda guy and I value value. So it just has to work and work well (for me). But a lot with Apple is spend solely on the name alone. You won't see me sitting in a Starbucks with a Macbook in front of me on the table. It's like a lifestyle accessory. Like a fancy watch (although, I kinda like watches, though I don't really see the practical value of a really really expensive one), or for girls: a Gucci hand bag or whatevz. So, I'll admit 'you know what, that looks quite nice', but I really am not getting urge to get one. But you know. It's cool that we're all different. Would be a boring place if we all had the same taste and opinion. Like, Apple people probably like the Bugatti Chiron... I'd rather get something more fun and less yacht like, like I don't know, a Koenigsegg Regera or something. Or that NIO (NextEV) EP9, now that's something else! Anyways. Mac VS PC... you just do you. Just for the Mac users, I do hope that they'll get more PC-like freedom, power and value. Everything else... whatever works, works!
  6. As in your own words 'really shines', I bet. Convincing enough to make him consider going quality MFT lenses. Recent Panaleica/OlyPRO primes are definitely sick! As in cool, not as in 'needing bed rest'. Atleast the Leica 15mm is affordable... that 12, 25 & 42.5mm... different story. They're baiting you with a tasty little worm and you end up getting reeled in being the one on the menu!
  7. I think everything up to and including ISO6400 should be considered quite normal generic territory. It's great the GH5 is now very capable at ISO3200. But that's nowhere near 'low light monster' levels, no? Go up from ISO6400 and every expensive Sony more or less handles ISO12800 as a champ. ISO25600, because why not... and only then are we starting to get somewhere in the monster levels... ISO51200, 102400, 204800, 409600! Absolutely unneccessary, but cool. Think it's more for stuff like https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/products/details/cameras/multi-purpose-cameras/me20f-sh & https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-broadcastcameras/cat-pov/product-UMCS3C%2FP/ . MFT would help considerably keeping the set-up small and stealthy, so that might be the whole 'why' around this.
  8. It would be somewhat of a first, no? A lowlight monster cinema camera? I mean, they could make an exception, as the BMPCC might often be used as-is, without much or any lighting equipment, but most of the cinema cameras traditionally have pretty lousy high ISO noise performance, some even don't have the option to go all that high in the first place. You don't want to be far off from your base ISO, I guess that might be one reason for not having the ISO up all the way high or low. We've seen with the A7S that LOG profiles with a high base ISO can actually impose limitations rather than lift them. More in a practical way, anyways.
  9. A proper BMPCC successor wouldn't be bad! But... then the focus would be on DR and gradability, not lowlight.
  10. Now... your building with all the people in it might be on fire... but mine isn't... so yes, I'll look at you a little funny when you yell at me to 'get out!'. That said, I take full responsibility for clicking your video, so it's more like I accepted the invitation and showed up to your building, rang the doorbell and you have the right to answer your door any way you see fit of course. In the end YouTube videos and forum threads is free online content, you don't pay for it - you don't get a say in it. You can watch it... be a part of it... or not. But you can't really be demanding this free content should conform to certain criteria (unless legally/morally very iffy) so it would fit your needs better. On the other hand... people are also free to give feedback... or their unsalted opinion and in return you can read it, respond to it, or not, too. That said, there's something I don't quite understand, maybe not specific to the video, but specific to a certain mindset. That is that some people from a certain religion might think that people from another religion or mindset are in a bad place and need saving. Am I lesser of a human being just for not being part of your religion? I think that's part of the point jcs is trying to make... you can be a humble, greatful, peaceful, good and honest person, just by being a person that is and that's something that's often overlooked. Now, I've been raised Roman Catholic... and luckily the way I was brought up and the church we went to was very peaceful, modern and open. Church wasn't really about lecturing from old scriptures or people having to spread the gospel, but the pastor always had some engaging words of wisdom taken from everyday life in a modern society. There certainly is something to say for the kind of general values and principles religion can pass on to their following. But... ultimately this was developed out of the need for having social control/policing. Obey the rules and they'll promise you that you'll be rewarded for it... break the rules and you will serve eternal damnation in hell. And people don't know what happens when you're dead, so that's easy to scare people with. I'd say... you're probably just wormfood. Actually you're not even wormfood, because you're already not anything anymore. There's no conclusive scientific evidence to support any of the theories (but I found the BBC documentary 'The Day I Died' a good watch (think it's in parts on YouTube somewhere), about scienfitically trying to explain near death experiences)... I just think that your 'soul' living on and getting a place in heaven is amongst of the least likely things that will happen. To me death is a natural occurance and whereas the fear of dying is real (nobody would like to leave this earth early or die horribly)... I don't really have a fear of what happens after. Live for the life your living right now, don't live for the afterlife, something that might not even be a thing. But if people have this fear and need answers, I guess it can't hurt to go with the more positive option that there's is a God and that Heaven is a real place. Whatever you need to tell yourself to get you through the day. No harm done. So one would think... The harm starts when you're starting to misinterpret words in a book... first of all... if these were actual events that took place (they're rather 'just stories' created out of the desire to have social control (but now we have modern laws/a legal system in place, so there's no need for ancient religion to give us that?), but just for the sake of argument let's go with it), then first they did the rounds by word of mouth, I'm sure you're familliar with the game 'Chinese whispers' aka 'telephone', where one person tells someone a story and they have to tell the next, and so on and so on. By the time it reaches a person further along the chain the story is no longer the same that was told at first. Now... then someone decides to write it down. Others add passages to it to make it more juicy, others to make it suit more their own personal agenda (political/ideology) and voilá, that's how you end up with your Bible, Quran, or what have you. And that's where it gets dangerous. Because people read these 'holy' documents (like crop circles; they didn't just appear out of thin air you know) and see the truth in everything that's been written down. Then of course... a lot is open to interpretation too... and people draw conclusions that people with common sense would not make. And that's where you get people that feel better than others... having the need to change the beliefs of others and to even start wars or acts of terrorism in the name of it. Slippery slope indeed. Now... there's so many gods and holy scriptures you can adhere to... are they all wrong? They can't be all right. Well, I'd say: who cares?! Everyone should decide for themselves what to believe and then keep that belief to themselves. But for some reason people have the need to be right and having everyone acknowledge that they're right. I'd say: fuck that shit! Let everyone believe whatever they need to believe, can't we just all peacefully co-exist and mind our own businessreligion? I mean, apparently not, but that's the duality of it all. Religion is supposed to be constructive keeping us in check with guidelines, instead it has turned into this destructive thing where people have added their own agenda, interpreted things wrongly and twist it to fit their fight, which just raises more hate and division. Religion is a fairytale turned into a primitive horror. It's just not working in modern day society. I'd rather use common sense and science... and trying to be as good of a person I can be because I choose to, not because I'm told to. If you want to spread love, kindness and positivity, spread love, kindness and positivity and not religion per se. Just human decency. I'm not saying people should drop their religion, but I'd say: let's stop letting your beliefs affect the lives of others. Stop forcing your religion upon others. So... spreading the gospel... Jehovah's Witnesses... and such, reading scriptures... that stuff generally really isn't my jam. It's the same with extreme vegans. Ever went out for dinner with those? It's almost impossible for their beliefs not to affect you. I'm fine with you eating a veggie salad or whatever... but the respect or consideration doesn't go the other way around it sometimes seems. That said man, that's way too deep into it. What the actual fuck, lol. I enjoyed your video, I didn't feel like you forced your religion onto me, if adding scriptures in the mix for a few seconds is you... is creative... then I don't really mind it. You're trying to put good out in the world and that's the thing I recognized there. And even if I didn't... I could always opt to skip the next, because that's the live and let live philosophy. We have the freedom to go about it as we want, just as much as the next person. _______ And yes! Contax Zeiss is da bomb! Forever grateful for Andy Lee for bringing me to the dark side! Love the set f/2.8s I have (25, 28, 35, 45, 85 & 135mm, 50mm is f/1.4 of course). Would love to try the 28mm f/2 too, that's like the OG Hollywood lens. And yeah, Apple's made some interesting choices since Steve Jobs passed away... atleast products used to have a vision behind them and Apple stood for a philosophy and making it happen. Not sure they're on the right track anymore, seems that with adding the touchbar they lost a little bit of integrity, not that getting with the times and doing something different is bad, it's that you focus on gimmicks and forget about the bigger picture. I do like small powerful laptops as well, I'm still waiting for something to tickle my spidey senses. I'm keeping an eye on this channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/MobileTechReview/videos she reviews a lot of the kind of laptops I'm potentially interested in. Dell is making some bleeps on my radar... but it's a Dell... not sure how I feel about that. Never felt they were quality products judging from the experience folks around me had with 'em. Bit of the same with brands like HP and Acer. I'm really digging ASUS myself.
  11. Nah, Canon and Sony are deep in the scientific and surveillance game with certain camera ranges that have no consumer ambition at all. They're way expensive too.
  12. Yeah, flippin' ridiculous. Welcome to 2017, where we have no better delivery systems for codes than friggin' snailmail. I'm kinda waiting out for a 12-35mm f/2.8 II kit to arrive (?)... and the 400Mbps update, but might as well get a code in, just to make sure atleast that's already here and not running scarce.
  13. Here's some pointers, search for 'DMW-SFU1': e.g. both Digifoto and Fotokoch seem to be sending stuff abroad. No stock yet though. https://geizhals.eu/panasonic-dmw-sfu1-updateschluessel-a1567852.html . Might wanna shoot a msg in direction of these guys too: https://www.panasonicstore.ie/about-us/ . Or https://eng.faq.panasonic.com/app/ask/p/5 , does say 'UK & Ireland', so they must gotta have some info for you on how to get a hold of one. Gd luck.
  14. I never expected the GH5 to outclass the A6500 in terms of AF and sensor performance, I mean, it's 4/3" against APS-C and although we've come quite a way since the GH4, we're not close enough yet and think it would be pretty unrealistic to have expected otherwise? In terms of dynamic range, high ISO/lowlight noise performance, thickness of color perhaps (although these last two improved quite significantly), MFT still needs a bit of catching up. Same for the AF systems. But... you have to appreciate it for the right features. It's basically an ENG/Cinema camera unit, that can be used as such, which means it's super effective in controlled environments, yet, its body design lends itself superbly for on-the-go use. It's reliable, has tons of intergrated features... like really, what is not to love? On top of that: the system is actually compact with tons of possibilities. That's one of the main reasons I decided to go with the GH2 over a T2i/550D/T3i/600D. Mirrorless means more innovation and MFT is the more compact system. Compared to Sony, the body, reliability and system compactness is still so much better. That's also why for me it wouldn't even make much sense to look at a 5DmkIII...
  15. The Angénieux Type EZ ones are looking sexy. Gotta love these options indeed. Of course these are really specifically developed end products targeting in a very specific market, so prices do tend to get up there. But... I'm more of an 'a zoom covers the range of multiple primes, so it's super convenient' kinda guy. I don't really need all the typical characteristics of a cinezoom and can save me quite a few bucks by just cinemodding or just gearing stills lenses. Like, the Nikon 17-35, 28-70 and 80-200mm f/2.8 D ED makes for a cool bunch. There's the Tokina Cinema ATX zooms as stills version, so the 11-16, 16-28 and 50-135mm f/2.8. Optically that gets you roughly there, of course the way of acquiring is less professional, but then again, are we all that professional with them professional filled wallets? I actually don't mind working with primes, though. They're smaller to work with and they're optimized for the focal length, there's no concessions. Does mean you have to switch 'em out, but as long as you're not shooting ENG style out in the field, but rather in a studio scenario with lights set up and time on your side, I'd say it isn't a biggie. Dunno about Samyang/Rokinon/Walimex and what they're doing... they might be bright 'n cheap, but I'd say a Sigma is better overall quality and value in the end. You don't hear from Tamron a lot these days... maybe I'm just not looking in the right places, but they seem to be getting behind in popularity. Their newer SP series lenses actually look quite alright, though. I wonder if maybe they're the ones who could try something else and maybe produce us some cinezooms? I embrace more options, that's for sure!
  16. Do not touch the button! Do not take a cookie! No joke! Everytime there's a negative involved, you're starting to think otherwise. The big joke here is Canon. Period. Though I'm not sure that's even funny. They should really up their game with their con-/prosumer camera line-up. Like, how significant the 5DmkII and T2i/550D have been. So meaningless are their releases nowadays. If you look at Panasonic, Sony, even Fujifilm, Olympus and Nikon, they've made leaps in these last few years.
  17. Now that the GH5 with 4K60p is here... anyone with a need for that resolution/rate in an action cam? It's the AliExpress Anniversary with a world premiere sale* of the new YI cam: https://sale.aliexpress.com/__pc/new_xiaoyi.htm https://www.yitechnology.com/yi-4k-plus-action-camera * a lot of prices end up even cheaper when using the AliExpress app on your mobile device!
  18. But... if you take a bite out of an apple... wouldn't it be an orange?
  19. Only when cropping your fullframe sensor, then enlarging the crop, then taking the right aspect ratio crop/adding of letterbox, will you get the same field of view. But... in video you're recording at a fixed resolution, 1080p or 4K. So, if you crop in on that, you're going to throw away resolution. Not sure why you'd want to do that.
  20. http://www.pts-trading.de/patona-premium-akku-f-panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh3-gh3a-gh4-dmw-blf19-p-4198.html
  21. Ah, a fellow ex-SX1 IS shooter! Those were the days. One of the first digital cameras with 1080p recording. But I basically bought it for the range after having seen: Super home videoey vibe though. I did hack it with CHDK for all sorts of things. But what I really was missing is manual focus control (you'd have to rotate the small dial on the back) and as soon as lighting conditions got a little wonky, it really was a noisy mess. At the time the 600D/T3i and hacked GH2 were the latest and greatest... went with the Panasonic and with the exception of the D5300, I've been a loyal m4/3 shooter. Still though, I do like the simplicity of a more all-in-one system. So... for daily stuff in and around the house and whatnot: the LX100. For travelling around: the FZ1000. Video shoots: the GH4 has been great for productionly style work, but the G7 brought better sensor performance, the GX80 the sensor stabilization and G80 dealt with some of the quirks of the GX80. But there's something to say for the straight out of camera colors and DualPixel AF from Canon... but that's like the only thing they got going for 'em. The XC-series is really polarizing. I didn't understand it at first and still isn't something I'd go for, but some people learned to appreciate it. In the end though, from everybody that got excited to get one, did anyone actually kept theirs? I'm pretty sure most moved on already. XC15 addressed a couple of things, but I wouldn't be that surprised if they call it quits on the concept from now on. If you like the camera and image though, don't let it stop you. But indeed, as well look at the FZ2000, that looks really interesting as a flexibile allrounder.
  22. Interesting. So like a huge backorder supply issue, then? Hum. Believe I picked mine up somewhere in the middle of May last year? Seeing supply just about anywhere online as we speak too. Couldn't you just have cancelled and ordered at another place? Though, I heard similar UK supply issues with the G80 (mine arrived just in time for my NY trip last October). But that might've been induced by the attraction for us mainlanders to order it from across the Channel due to that free battery grip deal from Panasonic and cheapers prices in general, basically giving us a free lens at our body only prices. We sneaky little buggers like that.
  23. Actually, it does, they'd love to compete with fullframe & cinema cameras etc, but they just can't on either dynamic range or high ISO noise performance (against fullframe that is, for cinema cameras, they're pretty much dealing with the same thing). Though, indeed, the footage out of the BMPCC looks way nice and the DR is there. But... that's like asking me: 'I need a car... and I need it to go fast in a dragrace'. I will strip the car, tune it, change the tires, etc. Now you're left with a beast, that's literally a RAW one if you do that kinda thing with a camera. But... just about everything else sucks with the camera. Like in a normal car you would have airconditioning, GPS/entertainment, road suspension, tires and driveability, etc, like, comfort things, things that make it practical to drive. You can't shoot stills with the BMPCC. It goes through batteries like it's nothing. Screen is poor, audio is pretty darn bad, etc. It only has one task... and it's pretty brilliant at it. But the GH5, is the car that's unchanged. It is one that offers comfort and versatility at sacrifices some things for the sake of a better allround product. I wish they would offer us as well, like the A7S-series, a camera with a fairly low MP count and like the BMPCC with ProRes/RAW DNG recording, but we're just a small target audience that sees application for such a thing I guess.
