Panasonic GH5 starts shipping in 3 days. How's the 180fps slow-mo quality?
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Nice, it's like these companies are starting to learn how to roll out products on time (or atleast to announce them with a realistic roll-out date). -
The 95MB/s* seems to classify as V30 (so max. sustained 30MB/s, 150Mbit/s should be a little less than 20MB/s, so I imagine that's fine; *read, 90MB/s write). More about speed classes, as you've probably seen, here: https://www.sdcard.org/consumers/choices/speed_class/index.html . Haven't seen any official V60 cards yet (required for GH5 w/ firmware update; 400MBit/s - 50MB/s, so V60), but I have V90 and those would roughly be the ones with spec: R280/W250. The Panasonic and Delkin ones, don't come cheap though. If 90 equals 30 and 250 equals 90, you're looking at about a factor 3x. So, 60x3=180 (also 90+30=120/2=60 and 250+90=340/2=170). That's the exact writespeed of the 'Transcend Ultimate SDXC 64GB, UHS-II U3/Class 10'. With all that said, draw your own conclusions and then check cards availlable and pricing right here.

Letting you know: https://www.foto-mundus.de/aktionen/panasonic-gx800-gh5/23772/panasonic-lumix-dc-gh5-12-60mm-f3.5-5.6-asph.-power-o.i.s.?c=639 ('Sofort versandfertig' - 'Ready to ship'), seems they do have an international shipping policy: https://www.foto-mundus.de/versandkosten-bezahlmethoden . That said. Cyberport is reporting (still) that the expected stock status is 23.3 , so probably tomorrow we should see more widespread availlability. - Upd. And gone! But they still have a 14-140mm kit, which I was unaware of was a thing: https://www.foto-mundus.de/detail/index/sArticle/23773/sCategory/639 -
'Hi! Nice camera. How many stops of stabilization?' "Non-stop"

Not sure if I ever heard of 'egg crate', that might be the limiting factor in your search. Howabout '(honeycomb) grid', the usual term for I guess the same thing (or did I miss something here)? Meking (eBay/AliExpress, etc) makes cheap ones, you might have to join a couple together to get the size exactly right.

I have the E-M1, so the 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO came with it. It's a very well-built lens and I love the MF de-clutch and optical solid character. From what I had gathered back then, there wasn't that much reason to be getting the 12-35mm f/2.8 apart from the stabilization, so I never gave it a whirl, really. The new Leica? I don't really like the fall-off to f/4 and I believe it's not really up to the quality and character of the recent Leica gems (mainly primes). With the G80 I went with the kit, because importing it from the UK, I basically got it with a free 12-60mm Lumix lens (which is weathersealed btw), 64GB card and battery grip for body only mainland EU prices. The Lumix 12-60mm provides a very useful range and does okay in daylight for like photography. Even for video it's not terrible, as you do gain that Dual IS compatibility, but you might not use if for more than homevideos. The Leica. Well, not sure, the range is nice, but if it doesn't have those Leica qualities and falls off to f/4, then I hardly have better use for it than the cheaper Lumix. Since I don't own the 12-35mm f/2.8... it seems that for the GH5, it would make sense to get the newer version, of course, I could just still be using the Olympus, as now we have sensor stabilization. But having had the oppertunity to try out Dual IS, I can't deny that it's really really good compared to sensor stabilization alone. Of course, if you have the older one, you still get Dual IS, just not Dual IS 2, which shouldn't make the world of difference.

All the pre-excitement for all these months, and now it is actually hitting the shelves!

Or if you need to stay in the A6000 ball park... the Panasonic GX85/80 and see what Andrew did here: http://www.eoshd.com/2016/12/now-available-eoshd-pro-color-for-panasonic-cameras-gh4-gx85-g85-and-more/ then see if that's something you might like or gives you confidence that you can work it out?

Ooh, can I bring Erdogan into this? A Sony with a C-badge. Oh wait, that's not the Canon C-badge, that's the Turkish flag, my bad.

Keep an eye on UK Digital, Mundus and Wöltje listed at: https://geizhals.eu/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh5-schwarz-gehaeuse-a1558055.html?hloc=at&hloc=de&hloc=pl&hloc=uk&hloc=eu . From the G80 release I believe they were the first ones to sport a few units. I probably have the best chance again picking up one from the local A-S Elektro, they don't ship, it's pick-up only. More places in town like it with some fair odds, like with the E-M1 Mark II was the case (actually didn't end up buying one... for now). Actually think the E-M1 Mark II was for sale two days earlier in The Netherlands, so maybe also keep an eye on here: https://tweakers.net/product/537687/panasonic-lumix-g-dmc-gh5/ . For people in Switzerland or close-by, keep an eye on: https://en.toppreise.ch/index.php?search=gh5&sRes=OK , also, I believe somewhere someone dropped a hint that Panasonic has some % off until the end of the month or something? If the situation applies to you, maybe worth checking into (-- ah, over here , 2906 CHF (~ 2699 EUR) incl. Leica lens, battery grip & audio unit, not too bad). -

Noice! Now, I haven't pre-ordered anything anywhere, so tough luck, but I usually get my way if I keep my eyes opened and lines out. -
Just sign out and sayonara. See you later.

In other words... 'we had already lined everything up and were good to go, but then marketing figured out that we were giving out freebies and stopping people from buying our new stuff'.
-
Do you have any sources for that? Acc. that video (4:26) & e.g. this thread and mentioned document (p.21): https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/4102483 , it's not yet supported (also not mentioned yet at: http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/connect/dual_is.html ). But support should be there when new firmware is out this year?
-
Native as in 'Panasonic on a Panasonic system'. The other thing is e.g. an Olympus or Sigma lens, AF capable, on the Panasonic system. Hence the video posted above.
-
Than the 12-40? Yes, obviously (it's a Panasonic's home game where you'd gain hybrid IS). The 12-35mm? Well. Supposedly you'd get the new one for weathersealing (freezeproof), cosmetic changes and the improved iris control only. I thought the old one would only be Dual IS compatible, not Dual IS 2. But he de-bunked me on that one earlier (see video), so... Guess with either of the 12-35mm f/2.8 you're good too. Unless you like the 12-60mm range and don't mind the fall-off to f/4. Both support Power OIS + Dual IS 2.

Whaddayamean bro? You got one? This for realsies? Here, from what I've seen earliest in two days.

I imagine that with VBR on the GH5 it as well conforms in-camera to whatever rate you were shooting in (24, 25, 30). Not sure how this affects anything you want to do with Twixtor, because you have sequential control in post to make it any sort of clip and speed all you want. -
Now that's a camera I wouldn't mind giving a go as well, might be a good replacement for my D5300 that is awesome for its sensor, but which I hate for being a traditional DSLR with that clunky mirror inside. That 16-50mm f/2-2.8 S probably gives you little else remaining to still wish for. Maybe I'll run into a good deal some day. Hope it works out for ya! Have fun with it.

With APS-C it's not just the crop: ease of establishing shallow depth of field (and not all lenses perform that well wide open, so it's nice if you could squeeze that aperture a tiny bit) and the better choice of wide angle lenses perhaps. It's much more the two main things about its sensor performance and that's: dynamic range and high ISO noise performance. You can do anything you want to a 4/3" sensor, but that's not going to improve. We already established that not always will you need a massive dynamic range... and you can and should always light your scenes... but if you're out about in the city, changing environments needing to quickly adapt, it's nice to be able to 'cheat' a little and have that flexibility in your camera to provide you with that. I absolutely adore Nikon APS-C sensor performance. Sony sensor performance is quite alright as well in terms of that mentioned flexibility (they could work on other things like color reproduction and defaults (that create color channel clipping issues), rolling shutter, etc). Guess the X-T2 proves that you can get great things out of an APS-C sensor indeed. Just... the bodies, features, eco systems (and their compactness) and perhaps prices that go with the current APS-C offerings... they don't really appeal to me that much to leave the MFT system quite yet as I'd rather have a nice system to work and work within the boundaries of what the sensor cán do... than ditching the system for something that doesn't really resonate with the way I'd like to shoot at all. I could be rocking anything from a A7RII to a F35, and they're amazing at what they do, but it's pretty useless if neither of these fit into my shooting flow.

TSA bans cameras in cabin baggage, on flights to the US from 13 countries

You're allowed your phone. Better make it one with a good camera, then. -
There are Sony smart adapters for both Sony Alpha and Canon EF mount, right? Not sure what the quality of these are in regard to AF though... Just looking at the A mount it seems there's one 16-50mm f/2.8, one 17-50mm f/2.8 and two 18-50mm f/2.8 options. Similar to the Canon options.

That's why my TomTom has a flatscreen and isn't a sphere!
