:P That's a good one, I thought they simply messed up 'cameras' with 'lenses', but then I don't understand why you'd specifically mention 'm43 lenses', as just about any lens for any system starts to suck past f/8~f/11. Though, maybe they've provided better context to find out about that, I didn't really look into their review thát much.

Not sure about the f/2.8-4 either, it kinda sucks that it's not a constant aperture one. Atleast the 12-100mm f/4 is and so far I've heard a lot of positive things. Had a very brief hands-on with it myself end of last year, it did handle great. Still though, I have no use for f/4, as I usually shoot at f/2.8 or faster. But... I might get the GH5 with the new 12-35mm f/2.8 (so, version II), see what that's like.

I applaud new tech and implementation, surely anything that helps is welcome. The more the merrier, right? Else we might as well stick to shooting with the T2i/550D. What I wouldn't quite say is that monitors are just about only good for quick glance framing and what not, just not for focus, because 'with 1080p or actually even 4K signals, you can't judge focus and that they're totally unusable'? But I didn't really have a problem pulling focus from the screen with the GH2 (crop sensor, not 4K) and say for example the vintage Pentax-M SMC Asahi 50mm f/1.4 back in the day to be honest. I even think the f/1.4 helps, as you can more clearly tell what is out of focus in front and behind. But you know, that's just silly old me and people do tend to call me 'eagle eyes' every now and again. I have 2x 5" and one 7" monitors, either of 'em only take 1080p input and I think it works fine for telling focus and sure, of course there's nothing wrong with focus aids either. But to say that all these monitors are pretty much unusable, I find quite the interesting statement, as Kisaha mentioned, there were times when that was all we did, pulling focus from what we see on the screen, making them usable apparently. And now they're suddenly not anymore, although it's only gotten better since? But you know. Agree to disagree then. I won't deny that it's nice to have extra aids as well on these cameras and monitors or that you shouldn't use them, so I guess that's an area we can agree on. It's the philosophy 'most use of equipment', in other words: 'if you have it, why not use it?'. Like cruise control in a car. I just wouldn't go as far as saying without going there it's useless.

Yeah, don't think so either, so I'll probably end up sticking to M43. But I like the look, feel and performance up with APS-C. So... then what? Is Sony going to make an 180 and actually re-think their approach, maybe start an A70 line-up or something? Continuation of A6500-like specs (sensor does very well, everything around it sucks) but with more of a NX1-style body. Proper ergonomics, proper space to deal with heat and stuff? This year? But I guess that's the same kind of wishful thinking as Fujifilm having sensor stabilization... rather unlikely to happen. Any of these APS-C manufacturers could win me over with the right approach. Maybe they're just showing Panasonic mercy... 'we couldn't possibly do that, that's like taking candy from a baby, it's easy, but it's also mean and morally wrong'. Or responsible. Cavity prevention!

Yeah, they're so full of themselves over at Canon, why not try to be more like Ferrari? Like, you need to own so many of their products and actually get invited to get somewhere.
-
What's the number Andrew? WHAT'S THE NUMBER?
-
That would really seal the deal, yeah. Though, if the GH5 is a flagship at 1999 with all the crazy features, the APS-C size-up should need to cost more than 2999 tops. And that's exactly where there's still a gap in the market. Somewhere up from say a GH5 without going full on cinema camera package at 5k+.

The X-T2, doesn't have: sensor stabilization headphone port on the camera body frontfacing touchscreen the most well-supported mount... and there's no smart adapters (w/ chip) for like EF lenses They fix those... they're onto something. That's like what Samsung might've done if they'd continue to develop for a NX-2. I agree that APS-C is where it's at and Fujifilm knows their colors and quality optics. The Sony cameras just lack that creative passion for film, they just up the numbers on the specsheet, jack up the price and expect winning sales. But their product is kinda 'meh', specs look good, but doesn't really relate to realworld use. Canon of course is a joke. Nikon is not entering. And yeah, there's still the Samsung NX-1, but it's kind of an obsolete system if you can continue your road with Fuji that kind of has smiliar strengths and weaknesses. If they could bring a X-T2 VH like that, I'd seriously consider switching from Panasonic/Olympus/Blackmagic/Nikon.

I could pull focus from my GH2, which had a compact low res display without peaking... sure 4K will help, but to almost consider it mandatory is quite a stretch...
-
You said it looks good (actually 'pretty damn good' even). It doesn't. It looks improved but still sucks. That's different. I'd rather opt not to use it at all if it's like that. Like I've been with Panasonics like since the GH2. But maybe I just have control issues and am bordering on pixel peeping disorder.
-
I was already like did me and webrunner5 even watched the same video?? Even on the scene with the girl it's pumping around, you can also tell by the heavy breathing of the lens. Don't know, luckily I gave up on C-AF with Panasonics a long time ago. If you must... get a Canon for the type of shots where you really need to have it. Otherwise, S-AF & MF.

Yeah. I don't really see the point of that, to be honest. It looks pretty 'meh' and is not even meant as a filmmaking tool. Get the mobile AliExpress app for some extra discount on this one (don't forget additional store coupons), under 80 bucks, ships from either US, EU or CN even: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/DE-STOCK-Viltrox-DC-50-HD-Clip-on-Camera-Monitor-Portable-Wide-View-5-LCD-Monitor/32688864412.html. Fine enough monitor for some basic framing and such I'd reckon. Wouldn't mess about with some random car cam monitor. But I'm really with Kisaha on this one. The Neway CT500HO seems a really attractive option here... Vitaliy will hook you up.

Agreed. 7" is more like a set monitor for the director or something. I feel like 5" really is a more suitable size to be mounting it on a camera or rig. SmallHD makes some pretty sexy monitors. But they're way too premo. For that kind of money you're almost thinking Videodevices PIX-E5(H) which is like the best monitor/recorder-combo imaginable. Blackmagic has given the Video Assist some proper upgrades through firmware, but of course it still doesn't take 4K over HDMI. If you're looking for a monitor only, the Lilliput Q5 has some very awesome features, but like the VA lacks 4K support (luckily cameras like the GH4 have a selectable 1080p monitor output whilst recording in 4K). The Q5 as well is availlable as Neway model, there it's the CK550S. What does indeed take 4K is the mentioned Neway monitor CT500HO, which indeed basically is the Ikan DH5e. If you're looking for smaller, consider the Ikan VL35 which is 3.5" and takes 4K. I think the last proper mention goes to FeelWorld who have the FeelWorld G55, similar to the Lilliput/Neway, but to me seems a little crappier made. Another Chinese company seems to be the pretty unknown SWIT, but they're at their pricepoint there's better alternatives. Same for the Korean BON. But yeah, I think that about covers the sub 7"-range. Maybe the Sony CLM-FHD5 if you shoot on Sony cams a lot. Unfortunately a hell of a lot more restrictive than 7" that's just bombarded with all sorts of options. Wish Aputure would make some good value sub 7" monitors, they've been killing it so far, would've been awesome if the '5' in 'VS-5' would've meant '5 inch'. Some more recorder combos would be welcome a well... a 5" 4K recording or to 1080p downsampling BMD Video Assist, Convergent Design Odyssey, Atomos (update to the Ninja Blade?!), or something would be welcome. Of course it would be appreciated to stay south of $1k. If you're just shooting 1080p and want one of the cheapest solutions, maybe go for a Viltrox DC-50.

Looks interesting indeed, thanks for the heads up!

Because they lightweight and consumerfriendly. Also, everyone's gotta play the segmentation game to some level. Back to Leica... the 15 mil is quite nice on a GX85/80, it's like it belongs there, LX100-like footprint. I do like the Leica rendering. Out of focus areas are Bob Ross paintings that are sprayed down with winner's champagne. It has character. It's not all about sharpness. Sometimes I even like soft Canon footage that just disregards the sharpness of a lens altogether. It's like a gentle smooth wine VS something a little more strong that might make you cough a little. No denying both are pretty good stuff though. To me it doesn't really matter what label is on the bottle or what container they serve me the drinks in... as long as it taste good and makes me feel like 'what the fuck did I do last night?' in the morning, I'm good. Also saw that comment by Andy Lee in the 'Gear for sale' section! Really gotta give that Metabones Speedbooster with dummy C/Y to EF adapter and Contax Zeiss lenses a shot! Did you unlist the lenses to do just that? (btw, you can do a similar thing with Leica (or Leitz) Summicron-R lenses (L/R))

Thieves break into Veydra - help them to recover their cinema lenses

Dang that's awful. Ryan has been awesome bringing these to life! Proud Kickstarter backer. Sucks to see this happen to him and his company, they only put out good into the world, how could anyone do something like that? And indeed for what?! Hope they find out what pigs did this and put 'em to justice. -
EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic (GH4, GX85, G85 + more)
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well, you want the warmth in the right places. So, what I do is, I treat the highlight, mid and shadow areas separately. No tricky masks or anything. Just three way color wheels. If you do it globally, it indeed won't work that well. You can also create more weird Hollywood looks like this by contrasting shadows/mids/highlights with eachother if you don't like realistic/accurate... Your kitchen & you're the chef. Whatever you like best, but just about anything is doable in post. You can create your own LUTs of course. The one provided works as a solid base in a bunch of cases probably. But I would take care in some cases. The discussed way of shooting preserves the best information so it seems, so that's definitely good stuff. -
Think the time of Magic Lantern is over (active developing wise). It was cool with the T2i/550D and 5DmkII&III, but there's so many great ready to shoot cameras now, that I doubt it makes sense to exploit a camera that doesn't want to be exploited. Panasonic and Sony embrace new options, if you must get a Canon, shoot 5DMIII MLRAW, or get a 1D C/1DX Mark II, I'd say. But gd luck if you still feel like it's something to put money, time and effort into.
