EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic (GH4, GX85, G85 + more)
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
True that. Yeah, the other clips worked quite a bit better. I just personally only use LUTs to toggle different looks, to quickly see what would work best and then start from scratch. Of course, that's quite a bit more time consuming, but it avoids certain recognizable 'LUT looks' if you will and gets you a tailored look to fit the scene. Concerning the clip with the couple, you did a pretty nice job yourself, with the LUT, it was a big too neon in the reds for me, e.g. her hair turned Trump orange. * original * tweaked I'm more of a let blonds be blond and greens be green kinda guy, so I preferred your own grade which was close to this tweaked one. Not sure if I messed up his shirt color or improved it, I wasn't there, my eyes only know the color of natural things, so skin, hair, grass, leafs, etc. -
EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic (GH4, GX85, G85 + more)
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well, out of camera is quite workable; I'd say that. But, you could get there yourself with perhaps a little nicer results... * The Original *A quick 'n rough Cinegain fix * Your result Instead of Canon warmth, the last one has that blueish pinkish vibe of the EOSHD LUT. Skin & lips look unnatural to me. I only really liked the results at nighttime, perhaps it's due to the warmth of incandescent lights. But you know, different people different taste and all. I just like it a little more subtle. -
There are solutions, like wireless/rc follow focus set-ups, but you're not going to like it. ($_€) Better you take say f/5.6-8 over f/1.4-2.8, focus and keep yourself at an fixed distance from your subject (or if you really are good at that last part and/or use in/out of focus creatively, go ahead and open that aperture up a little). It's a problem you're facing with having a Panasonic or any other camera. But people still manage. You could get a 7DmkII (or 80D), which I believe has dualpixel AF, no? So... that could be a thing. Not sure if there's like apps that allows smartphone control over electronic lenses, that could be one of the very few DIY hack options otherwise. About which gimbal set-up... go back in forum history and use Google, there's a bunch mentioned. Just from the top of my head I can't for sure name one that I know could carry a 7D. Well, something like the DJI Ronin obviously does. But like the Zhiyun Crane and what not. Tricky. Btw, with these kind of threads it would be nice to see someone has already put some effort in themselves, so it's a good idea to tell what you've found out yourself and what you're still not sure of. Heck, you might even find an answer on your own. Sometimes people rather ask and wait a day or longer, than actually research something for like 30mins and gain some knowledge... that kind of baffles me. I'm not saying that's the case here, but I can't tell, as I always prefer people telling me what they've found out for themselves first and only ask questions if they're still having problems connecting some dots. I'd like to see you having put some effort into it, before I do.

Yeah, there are some ultracheap ones you can play around with, but as mercer said, they're more toy/effect lenses... I've noticed some 'APS-C' C-mount with green rings have appeared on AliExpress. Curious what those are about. Maybe just the same as the non-green ring APS-C covering ones that did rounds like two years ago. There's a bunch of stuff listed here: https://rocksphoto.aliexpress.com/store/group/Camera-Lenses/701997_500545195.html . Though, I guess you can't beat the classic/quality vintage ones. But I wouldn't really know where to begin either. Guess it's the same with anamorphic. It's a completely different world you can get lost in.

Yeah, there was a whole thread on here: Pretty much specifically catered towards he BMPCC, but you get the idea. I personally quite dig the Kiev 16U set as seen on: Check out: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Objektive/3323/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ssn=artemstore&_ipg=200&_dmd=2&_sop=16 , Artem usually rocks very nice sets and lenses like it. At one point I was thinking about getting a Russian friend to organize me one of these to try out: http://shop.zenit-foto.ru/kinoob-ektivy (the 'cheap' originals, not the http://www.lumatechinc.com ones), maybe buy the whole bunch if I liked it. But I haven't really been using the BMPCCs that much these days. They should really do a BMPCC Mark II.

It was a 'quick test scene'. I'd say that's pretty darn good for just throwing something together real quick. That said, obviously you've got a point with what you can get out of a camera these days and that it's 'not about the size, but how you use it'. :P That's the sorta thing that made the Philip Bloom and Zacuto shootouts back in the GH2 days so damn exciting. The camera is just a small part of the equation.

Like you said, everyone's doing beauty shoots already. Less beautiful doesn't mean less interesting, au contraire even perhaps. It's what separates the artist from the obvious. So good on you!

I mean, the Leica does have the more close-up shots, whereas the Sigma is shot quite a bit more wide, so the Leica automagically renders a bit more shallow depth of field. But even then... it's like warm VS cold. Personal VS impersonal. Emotion VS apathetic. The only scene from the Sigma that really worked quite well for it, was at 0:29 . The way the Leica layers the gentleman at 0:59 out from the background is superb.
-
I think the Leica killed it. It's like a hug VS handshake. The Leica really 'grabs' the subject. Don't know how else to say it.

Yeah, you made me look into Scandinavian prices some time ago and I noticed funnily enough electronics can be had quite cheap there (just about everything else is pretty much expensive). Even managed to pick up a G7 on the cheap in person just before store closure at FotoKungen, Stockholm (quite late in the day, folks at Rajala didn't have stock but were nice enough to point me in their direction). Over the last few years I must've been in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Helsinki and Oslo countless times... unfortunately those days seem over. I posted about a sick deal on Rajala around Black Friday/Cyber Monday: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/21128-last-minute-deal-for-swedes-upd-extended/ , but talking to them, they referred me to the Finnish site instead; which of course didn't have any good deals going on, in fact it was more expensive than here locally. fml Not sure, but I think all these stores have a policy not to ship anything elsewhere? See, Cyberphoto seems the same... https://www.cyberphoto.se/leveransvillkor#leveransinformation-utom-sverige . Btw, for fun you should follow the links to the .no and .fi domains and see what happens. See, I am now in the market for a Huawei Mate 9 Pro which has the dual Leica cam set-up. It sells in Central/Western Europe under Porsche Design licence at 1395,- EUR. Yup. That's right, your eyes aren't deceiving you. Luckily you guys up north don't give in to such foolishness, so I've noticed on YouTube that Huawei Denmark, Norway, Sweden & Finland are promoting the Huawei version (earlier it was thought to be China released only). I made accounts at multiple Scandinavian shops... yet all won't allow it to be shipped to your address in e.g. Austria. I mean, I know a guy from Norway and another from Denmark that are bound visit home at some point this or next month and could probably organize me one. But otherwise it's pretty tough luck it seems. For someone who wants to undertake ordering something from abroad, but shops don't send items to your country... there are some forwarding services. I'll name a few: https://www.shipito.com (US -> ..) | http://www.borderlinx.com (US -> ..) | https://www.bpm-lux.com (US/UK/BE/LX/DE/IT/ES -> ..) | https://mailboxde.com (DE -> ..) | http://www.logoix.com (DE -> EU) | http://www.huifkarverzendservice.nl (DE -> NL) | http://www.cssbuy.com (CN -> ..) | http://www.mistertao.com (CN -> ..) | http://www.tenso.com/en/ (JP -> ..) | http://global.rakuten.com/en/ (JP -> ..) | etc. There's also some other type of new and upcoming way to get your deliveries. It's a sort of UBER/Lyft model, so more like a p2p kinda of thing, but instead of being with driver and passenger it's sender and receiver... try it own risk: https://www.parcl.com & http://airnshop.com . Some sites that might be worth checking out for deals: basically the same thing but for the different regions: https://www.prisjakt.nu (Sweden) | https://www.prisjakt.no (Norway) | https://hintaopas.fi (Finland) | https://pricespy.co.uk (UK) | https://pricespy.ie (IE) | https://pagomeno.it (IT) | https://pricespy.co.nz (NZ). There's also: http://www.pricerunner.dk (Denmark) | http://www.pricerunner.co.uk (UK) | http://www.pricerunner.de (DE) | http://www.pricerunner.at (AT) | http://www.pricerunner.fr (FR) . Others: https://www.pepper.com (worldwide deals) | http://geizhals.eu (EU (DE, AT, UK, PL)) | https://tweakers.net/pricewatch (NL) | http://www.voordeelmuis.nl (NL) | https://en.toppreise.ch (Switzerland). Of course sites like Idealo and Kelkoo. Don't forget your local Google Shopping site (e.g. https://www.google.com/shopping | https://www.google.de/shopping | https://www.google.nl/shopping | .. ) either. There are some shops that import stuff from all over the world for cheap and might be able to give you a fair deal, like http://www.eglobalcentral.com . There's also stores in Hong Kong that export stuff, some stores offer customers from certain countries a tax free guarantee, for example: http://www.onestop-digital.com/index.php?dispatch=pages.view&page_id=8¤cy=EUR&sl=en ('At the moment, this VAT Free guarantee only applies to orders shipped to Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States'). My Nikon AI-s 28mm f/2.8 MF came from http://www.aclub.com , initially found them on eBay. You can e-mail them and negotiate a little on the price. No guarantees, but it did fly under the radar with customs. For accessories, a good place to check is always http://www.linkdelight.com , http://www.camfere.com or one of the many other China webshops . Many of which, btw, are behind some eBay stores. So, eBay, right!? It's a great place to roam around (sure many of you have bought something from http://stores.ebay.com/roxsen at some point in time), for example if you need lens adapters, I highly recommend the ones from K&F (Kent & Faith) Concept (listings on eBay usually have the black box with orange accents in them, there's another brand 'Leinox' which is pretty good as well, they're shown with thumbnails of the adapter and a black box with brownish/copper accents). One of my best kept secrets I'll share with you today: http://www.ebay.com/usr/artemstore . If you want a Russian vintage lens, he will hook you up. Somehow he always manages to find NOS (New Old Stock) or special series lenses as well. Such a great source. Btw. I just want to highlight something I found out about eBay. E.g. take a look at this: http://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 VS http://www.ebay.at/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 . Same link, just changed the domain extension. The one gets 475 results, the other a mere 175. I usually use http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=putthethingyouwanttofindhere&LH_PrefLoc=2&_sop=15 to increase my chances of finding something, over time I've learned that gets me the best and most understandable results. In this case it comes up with 477 results and... it's English so you understand it: http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=zedigital&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=lens+adapter&_sacat=0 . Also try http://aliexpress.com , home of a lot of manufacturers as well (there's an app in your smartphone's app store, a lot can be had with a discount buying through the app). Did you know Aputure runs an offical store there for example? https://aputure.aliexpress.com . Need stuff for your GoPro? Have a look at TELESIN: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/630476 for example. A lot of brands have official stores on Amazon too (which always is a nice place to check, as some of the lightning deals involve camera gear and could get interesting from time to time). Or like Lilliput and Zhong Yi they might even have their own distribution channels, e.g.: http://lilliputdirect.com | http://www.zyoptics.net/purchase-online/ . Also. Don't forget, sometimes just subscribing to a newsletter gets you a nice welcome bonus. Also make sure to hit up a site like https://www.retailmenot.com before you purchase anything, there might be a good discount in it for you. So. Yeah! I'm all for good deals. But we just need to make sure we are able to get it somehow! I'm always keeping my eyes open, I'm a sucker for good deals as my G.A.S. history would show. DISCLAIMER: if you import something from abroad, make sure you know your national regulations and be aware that import duties might apply to your shipment

Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4 or Olympus M.Zuiko 25mm f/1.2 Pro for the GH4?
Cinegain replied to Michael Ma's topic in Cameras
Olympus PRO has a more clinical look, the Leicas are more about smooth character. You could say one is a surgeon saving people's lives and the other an actor like George Clooney. Not to say that you can't have a smooth doctor or an actor without much of an attitude. Think it's also about what you shoot with it, maybe the Oly is more for landscape and Panaleica more suited for people. Again. Not to say one cannot mean the other, just the natural tendencies I think each has. -
Ending up in around the same price ballpark, but... the E-M1 Mark II w/ 12-40mm f/2.8?! Almost negligible rolling shutter effect. Amazing stabilization. Fast! Great camera for a bunch of stuff. All the buttons and options are quite overwhelming, but you can just stick to the basics. Get a Leica 15mm f/1.7 and maybe a Lumix 42.5mm f/1.7 instead if you prefer small primes?
-
And what would you call an iPhone and DJI OSMO? Expensive gear and an 'elaborate' set-up too. And smartphones are the new compact camera, exactly what that has always been: 'good enough'. Just tourists, or just Asians without a interchangeable lens camera, seem to always use their tablets to take shots... which are not exactly known to rival compact cameras. They fall more in the webcam category, I'd say and well, frankly, it just looks so wrong to do. xD
-
Silly Asians, always taking footage with their tablet. I'm interested in the Rollei cage though. Fits a bunch of cameras. Nice expandability. I've seen projects like the one above on crowdfunding campaigns (Kickstarter/Indiegogo). Though I guess they're more for smartphones and GoPros.

I have dozens of lenses and don't really keep track what's shot with what, don't believe I've used it all that much... it's not the lenses' fault, it's just that I usually prefer to shoot at f/2.8 or faster and when a need for low contrast, there's still the Tiffen Ultra Contrast 3 or Smoque 1. I also just really like primes, because of the size and the optimized quality for the focal length. Also, having a set with same character keeps things matched in a multicam shoot, using two different focal lengths. Although for convenience sake, leaving a zoom on a rig when mounted, the Nikon 28-70mm & 80-200mm f/2.8 D boosted is a combination hard to beat. I do also like the f/2.8-ish Tokina zooms (11-16, 28-70 (2.6-2.8), 50-135), but the low contrast and f/4 is really something that just needs to fit the project, which I guess has yet to happen. Incl. shipping I believe these should turn out around 70-79 EUR. Not much home these days, but I'll see if I can squeeze in taking a couple of samples on friday.
-
Have the RMC 28-85mm f/4 here. I can concur, it's a lovely low contrast optic. It was an Andy Lee recommendation, look back in this topic and find his name, whatever he says is gold! Too bad he doesn't seem to be around here much these days. Sharing his infinite wisdom and talent with us mere mortals like he did here:
-
Yeah, I'd like a Olympus E-M1 Mark II body, with Sony APS-C sensor performance, Fujifilm processing and compact solid Sigma lenses native to the mount in relation to sensor size. Everybody's pretty good at their own thing. Nobody really nails it all. I guess that's how they survive. Keep people wanting for more...
-
Well, it's kinda where Panasonic and Olympus are going too with their fast and professional Leica and PRO series that run 1000+. So, it would be plausible. But yeah, it's fantasy. At first glance I just thought 'oh, this is a leak? Someone found an image they shouldn't have?' as it was posted on a rumor site. But actually following the source, it's really just a brainchild of someone with high hopes for Sony, that went into Photoshop and started getting funky. That's not going to happen. But seriously though, if they did, I might be into that. Although there's a doubt that they'll ever make a proper camera body deserving of that kind of lens investment. But the improvement from M43 to APS-C is quite significant. I don't need fullframe and with finally a proper APS-C line-up for the Sony, they'd finally have a system that challenges fullframe, but doing it being compact and challenging other brands. Agreed that Sigma is on the right track. They're still developing their own camera bodies, although I'm not sure who buys them. Maybe they have a move left of their own. Oh well, it's fun to daydream sometimes.
-
~ http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/renderings-amazin-aps-c-e-mount-lens-range-narek-avetisyan/ I've been giving Sony a bit of a hard time. I always say 'the thing that makes a system compact, is the lenses'. It's not so much about a small camera body. And they've been neglecting APS-C for far too long. This would be a hell of a comeback from that. Geepers creepers. Now they just need a body to deserve that kind of lens investment, because I bet they ain't going to go cheaply. But Panasonic and Olympus have started doing this. Just... with the 4/3" sensor, you really need that kind of extra squeeze performance. Sony has kinda been messy with their APS-C cameras. If they could bring a reliable camera, with no overheating, negligible rolling shutter, much like an Olympus E-M1 Mark II. Then man... I have something to consider here. Just when I thought they were out of moves. -- oh, lol, it's not a move, it's a feature request by a creative user. Well.
-
Are we definitely sure the XL will give problems, because as I read it, I don't see a problem with the crop: Nor any physical design limit... Note how the latest GX8,GX80/85 don't represent any problems (indicated in the table with color green). -- ah, nvm I guess, didn't notice there was a GH5 note
-
We need conversion kits. Hardware hackers. To take a G7, strip it and fill it with BMPCC internals. :P
-
There's a Nikon D5500 in pinkish red, talking about a lady cam, lol. Pair it with the 35mm f/1.8G. Not too big of a set. Wonderful images. 1080p60 only though. If that's too big... the LX100 packs a lot of fun in something small. Just not really any good pushed beyond ISO1250. Wildcard: 2nd hand Sony RX1R?
-
I personally like the compatibility. I already have some Lexar UHS-II 64GB ones, so I can use it with just about everything cross platform and what comes out next. Of course they'll get much cheaper over time once there's more competition and the standard actually gets to be the standard. Like I said, UHS-I U3 Class 10 R95W90 you should consider a solid purchase though.
-
I'd say a good idea to have the same compatibility as the requirements for the Video Assist 4K: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/faq/59010 . They gave me one of these with the camera: http://panasonic.net/avc/sdcard/product_lineup/index.html . So UHS-I U3 Class 10 R95W90 as a general rule is a solid purchase that you can put to good use. I've been a fan of SanDisk since the GH2 era when Kingston, Transcend etc let me down, the SanDisk Extreme Pro did it all!
