Looks good, you're absolutely right, it is an amazing camera with the true cinema camera touch. Too bad the Micro Cinema Camera wasn't quite the replacement for it. Though, the BMPCC could really use that Mosaic Engineering VAF, IR cut filter, image stabilization, vari-angle touchscreen and better battery life. I hope they get to read this and take it into account for their new year's resolutions. Imagine something like that in the G85 body. Gold!

Look, I'm all about M4/3, but to be honest, the actual sensor performance of just about any APS-C camera kicks M4/3 butt. Butt, I mean, but, it's more than sensor performance alone. Also, performance compared on sites like that are mostly important in terms of stills, perhaps not as much in terms of video, so, that's less of an advantage, but still a significant one. If you can make the rolling shutter work and never had issues with overheating, I'd even say: stick with it, good on you! You get a clear advantage in noise performance, detail and dynamic range (in some capacity) too. G80 wouldn't be a step up in quality. What you would get is a cheaper system. The possibility to mount much smaller lenses, to have better ergonomics (imho), front-facing w/ full touchscreen implementation et cetera. It's more about those things... the sensor is not on the same playing field though. But it's certainly managable going with M4/3, especially if you don't need the lowlight performance per se. I was looking forward so much to the A6300, but I'm glad I didn't get one. Because the rolling shutter and overheating (just knowing it could at any given time... I know it would probably work fine for months on end, but when push comes to shove would let me down at the most inconvenient time) would supersuck. I don't like the ergonomics and design of the camera. No front-facing touchscreen. Colors not that great off the bat. No real plans for the APS-C line-up lenses. Et cetera. Just my 2cts of course, but I choose not to deal with those things. But anyways... so you've had the GX85 right? Then you roughly know what the system is capable of. The G80/85 is a different league as a camera. In sensor performance, not so much. If you're happier with the A6300 than the GX85, I don't see why a G80 would suddenly triumph. On a unrelated note, *points towards the topic title*... anyone bought an E-M1 Mark II yet? Just curious. It's been out in countries like Germany and The Netherlands for a while now. Also started to see changes in the stock status of several local stores, yet for the time body only is tricky to get a hold of. I guess best would be to sell my E-M1 as kit with the 12-40mm and buy the E-M1 Mark II with all new 12-40mm in kit. Shouldn't make any difference below the line. Guess everyone is waiting for the GH5 announcement on the 4th (full specs + pricing + release date (spring/March/April))... but nobody was like: ooh, I have to get it anyways (not even you fuzzynormal)? I'm actually tempted to maybe pick one up on friday. I love the E-M1 for stills over any other camera. Doesn't mean I'm not interested to see what the GH5 is about... but it's not really the same thing, now, is it? Currently I have all kinds of cameras, so, I'd just be replacing models for their respective successors an keep using each for the areas they excell.

EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic (GH4, GX85, G85 + more)
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Those both don't look very appealing skintones wise if you ask me. But you know, subjective and all. I'd probably push it more in the direction of something like uhh... (lol @ red/pink shift due light emitted from behind the monitor) -
It's a little nervous on focus/stabilization here and there? Other than that it looks better than I expected and have seen. You seem to pull off some nice results/looks, m43-esque, whereas a lot of these first hands-on videos made it more look like a mweh so-so camcorder. Didn't really check it out that much when I had the chance last month. Did notice how bulky the damn thing seemed. What I really want is a LX200 though, treated in a similar way with all the useful upgrades!

Jup, it's like before wiith the free battery grip. Campaigns are listed here: http://promotions.panasonic.co.uk/promotions/promotions/campaigns/4 , the winter double cashback 'is applicable to residents of the EEA, EU, Switzerland, Channel Islands and Isle of Man who are aged 18 years or over', given that 'participants must purchase a new Qualifying Camera from a participating retailer in the UK'. I received my free G80 battery grip like a week or so ago (have to wait 28 days before claiming the bonus, then it takes a little while to get processed). Good idea to purchase from the UK anyways (mentioned it a couple of times already, body only EU mainland price roughly got me a 12-60mm, 64GB card and free promotional battery grip additionally in the UK). Geizhals.eu .

+Jurij Can't really agree with that, even if I'm the last person to get a MacOS/iOS product. They lure you into the ecosystem... with all of your devices, and once you are, it's probably not that easy to switch back to something else because of the integration with all of your other products and the user experience in general. Agreed, most Macbook users just use it as a status symbol whilst sipping away at their triple grande latte macchiato with extra whipped cream and sprinkles over at Starbucks, but to those who really need the performance, they're just screwed? Have to carry around a trashcan? There's a lot of creative/productive people using Macs and apparently all these Apple-bees have money to spend... so why not give them something? Well, for starters, I don't particularly think it's overpriced, but it's still a great sum of money to spend on a laptop. Just, I'm used to spending around 1299-1499, so 4999 is a step up that one might call a little crazy indeed. Though I like crazy. Not sure if there was such a crazy factory (non-custom) slim laptop/price ever before. I don't care much for the Mac ecosystem, so I love that I have all these options. Love my old ASUS N56VZ, it's superquiet, performs ok, lovely screen, audio by Bang & Olufsen is the best thing ever, the newer MSI Prestige PE60 works well, but overall isn't quite as nice as the ASUS. Another thing not-Apple... smartphones. The ZTE Nubia Z9 was a thing of the future when it got released, that's how I managed to rock it for so long. Now it's time for change and I'm thinking maybe the Huawei Mate 9 Pro with Leica dualcam set-up might be it. This is the level of choice that's just not availlable at Apple. But... people don't always like choice, they just want something that is easy and works.

Wasn't that the same guy that asked to get banned and went to write paid articles somewhere himself? Guess there's a tiny bit of irony there. Though, in his defence, after having cooled off for a bit he came back with a proper attitude (forgiven but apparently not forgotten quite yet, sorry bro). Ebrahim has been given a lot of chances, but I guess a soab once is a soab for life.

I find 17.3" to be too big <insert 'that's not what your mom said last night'-joke>. I've had ASUS and MSI with 15.6" and a Sony with 16.4". Wouldn't be opposed to going smaller and then at home just connect it to a proper monitor. I've been waiting for a cool laptop with latest Intel i7 7th gen and new Nvidia 1000-series card. I do like the MSI Prestige series. Their Apache/Stealth/Leopard Pro and whatever on the other hand are just a little too flashy and gamerish. Like a 18 year old would style his VW Golf. I prefer a more James Bond approach, mature, classy. I guess Dell XPS is kinda cool, but never really impressed by the experiences friends had with 'em. I like Alienware specs, but they as well look pretty tacky too. Guess there's ASUS ROG (Republic of Gamers) that has a few chill models. That might be something. Or just wait until one of their more regular (non-ROG) models has some sick specs. Gigabyte/AORUS have some cool things going on as well, but they seem so big and heavy compared to other laptops. Not really considering many other brands than that. Either because of something like not having a glossless/matte display or because of bad experiences etc. A Razer popped up on my radar recently: http://www.razerzone.com/store/razer-blade-pro that looks purdy sick. The video shows a bot deconstructing a desktop pc and turning it into a laptop. Crazy pricetag, I know, there's the more affordable non-Pro version too (more my thing).

Well... they're called PRO lenses for a reason, let's just get that out of the way first. Then again, I already have the 7-14 & 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO zooms and 75mm f/1.8 (and the classic 45mm f/1.8 and 60mm f/2.8 macro), so I'm slowly heading there. If I take geizhals.eu I roughly get 1035 (7-14), 899 (12-40), 1299 (40-150 without teleconverter, 1549 with), 1299 (25), 799 (75) = 5331 EUR (~5572 USD/~4538 GBP). Then you'll need the E-M1 Mark II, so that's 1999, but let's assume you buy the 12-40mm kit lens with it, saving you 299, so that's more like 1700 (2599-899). Then your grand total comes in at 7 grand. It's a lot of friggin' money. But you'd never really need another lens and you can all put it in a decent shoulderbag. Because that's still the beauty of it, how small the system actually is. The Olympus is a great system for those who care a lot about travel and want a versatile system to give them performance, flexibility and doesn't weigh them down. Of course you would probably just get it because you care a lot about stills photography and just happen to be A-OK fine with the video mode. It's not primarily a video production tool like the Panasonic GH flagship range is. Different people, different wishes, different cameras. Panasonic doesn't really have the same kind of line-up. Because Lumix ≠ PRO lenses and their Leica range mostly targets different areas. I probably shouldn't add up the costs of all the gear I have lying around, because then I could probably kick myself in the head for not having bought a sweet pimped out ride instead.

Looks pretty good! That's like the perfect lens line-up as well. 7-14, 12-40 & 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO zooms and then the 25mm f/1.2 PRO. Maybe the 75mm f/1.8 if you add portrait stuff. The 12-100mm f/4 PRO... I mean, nice 'n flexible, but it's f/4 on m4/3. Just doesn't quite do it for me, but perhaps for a journalism/documentary kind of thing perfect.

Speaking of Nokia, I remember them making a big deal out of the cameras on their phones. Now, sure they were amongst the best, if not thé best, but then they would say 'ha! This was shot entirely on a Nokia' and then there was like insane rigging, lensing and staging involved, nobody would actually shoot with smartphone that way. Kinda what Eduardo was getting at. It sorta defeats the purpose if you're working around its limitations by covering it up using the best possible pro lighting, equipment, crews et cetera.

Don't know how much of an issue it is right now... the other brands still need to catch up with Canon's dualpixel AF. But once they do, it is really going to benefit having native options. Especially if you'd go GH5, because they've integrated hybrid stabilization as well, Dual I.S.2. There's already a bunch of zooms, but now some more primes too. What I didn't like myself is the electronics required to adapt/use an EF lens which would drive adapter costs. Surely to have it electronic has benefits too though and the EF mount is probably one of the easiest ones to adapt to, so there's something to say for that. Quality concerned, Canons have always been technically excellent and flattering on people. But other than that I don't find 'em to have much character or pop, but I guess I have some bias towards vintage lenses and stuff.

May the 4th be with you, Luke!

Uhhh. You're going to call the police saying the level of teasing Panasonic is doing to us is criminal?! Or are you going to steal a prototype and then call yourself in after having tested and shared the results? jk, exterminate exterminate back to the future doctor!
-
Sorry bro! Wish it was true tho! Now I'll still be tempted to give the E-M1 Mark II a spin first. (Have both the GH4/E-M1 now anyways, one's excellent for video production style shooting, the other is a photography workhorse; might replace both with their respective successor)

Yup. ~ http://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-ces-press-event-on-january-4th-with-lot-of-gh5-news/ So, again, that B&H slip-up is probably true, on the 4th you can pre-order the camera, meaning specs 'n prices (rumored to be E-M1 Mark II level, so around 1999,- EUR body only and around 2900,- with 12-60mm f/2.8-4 Leica zoom) will be availlable then. But what actually won't be availlable is the camera itself (so no 'The rumor mill now indicates the GH5 will be available in January', 'Can't wait to get one!', well, you're going to have to). That's still due to be released in spring (March/April; a very probable rumor, the GH5 availability along with the new Leica f/2.8-4 zooms). http://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/panasonic-gh5-price-specs-will-unveield-january-4th/ The assumption it would be here next month is wishful thinking and not even what the mirrorlessrumors collective (includes 43rumors) is saying. Just assumptions people make from misreading what it says and 'news'-outlets that put those kind of things in the title of their article (maybe to clickbait). For the current official information just visit: http://www.panasonic.com/global/consumer/lumix/gh5/ .

How to handle out of range video levels (GX80 / GX85 in Premiere Pro)
Cinegain replied to Cary Knoop's topic in Cameras
Good schtuff, so true! Reminds me of the video presentation by Larry Jordan, it's a bit dated and targets FCPX, but it's based on some good general principles: -
EOSHD Pro Color for Panasonic (GH4, GX85, G85 + more)
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Shadow and highlight recovery looks nice. Colors are okay, maybe a little overboard for my taste, but you can dial that back. That LX100 up against the 1D C did turn out really cool! -
Yeah. 8K would really be dataslurping the heck out of it. Just not practical. And whilst H.265/HEVC popped up, Sony having XAVC/XOCN etc, there's Canon that favors putting one flavor of old 'n heavy 500Mbps MJPEG in their DSLR-style cameras. Besides. Who really needs 8K as a recording format anyways? And if you're into those kind of projects, why not a RED Weapon or in time a C800? Crashcam. Well. Don't think they made the 1D C, because then it would be convenient to mount on vehicles, use in tight spaces and stuff. I just don't think it even make much sense to have a camera like the 1D C do 8K. What might be a good idea is non-cropped 4K with true pixel-to-pixel readout (or atleast good supersampled). Because the 5DmkII started this whole shooting fullframe video on a DSLR genre... and meanwhile we're shooting 4K. But the Canon DSLR genre only offers up cropped modes for that. 1D C Mark II could make Canon great again, but they got to be smart and practical about it. But I doubt they're init to play that game. We'll see. But 8K? No way. And; why would they?

That dude was on point! Great footage too. Back OT however, it's Canon. I cannot imagine them releasing an 8K 1DC anytime soon, so I call B$.
