And here I was waiting for the Q5... http://www.lilliputuk.com/monitors/sdi/lilliput-q5 / http://lilliputdirect.com/lilliput-q5-sdi-hdmi-5-inch-field-monitor?search=q5 I need to replace my 663/O/P2 which is just too much for my liking. I can't get myself to splurge on a monitor/recorder combo like the PIX-E5(H), so, something like these are my best bet. Just something smallish to hook up to the Pilotfly H2 handlebars or something. That 7" full metal clunky design is nice for studio stuff, but not so much for fieldwork running around. The Video Assist is just decent as a recorder, but I wouldn't really call it all much of a monitor. Wish they would just come out with a 599-999 USD-ish combo, in the 5~5.5" flavor. One can dream...

Awesome! I guess I'd prefer small primes coupled with sensor stabilization. But man, if you want to work with a nice allround zoomset, there hardly is anything more suitable. The 28-70mm and 80-200mm f/2.8 D still make an awesome pair! Been keeping my eyes open for a 17-35mm to hit a nice price for quite a while now to add to the two. Nice coverage speedboosted on M43. Like the 18-35mm and 50-100mm f/1.8 from Sigma would too I suppose (depends on the look you're after). Same goes for both too that they're rather clunky and would require a little bit more rigging up. But hey, then you're shooting Bourne-style baby!

I bet if you ask Matt Frazer he'll say it's something he'd like to see as well, but that's it's the strategy of the higher-ups in Japan not to do anything like that. Glad he managed to get some stuff going for the GH4. Which is more experimental add-ons than something anticipated from the get-go btw (like mentioned @ 34:45). The GX80/85... tough luck. While you're at it, might as well be petitioning Canon to add 4K to the 760D/T6s. At the end of the day though, I applaud the enthusiasm, but you can't just go and petition everything. Same was when Samsung was dropping the NX-line. I get you want stuff (doesn't everyone?), but it doesn't really work like that. It's something else if someone doesn't live up to some promise, but you know what you were getting yourself into... it's not like you've been wronged by them. It's just how business works. Blame segmentation. You want something better? Buy the more expensive model. GH4 too old and you like the GX80/85 but it's missing some of that mojo? Wait for the GH5. But hey, power to you for trying. Maybe I'm just overly pessimistic.

Yeah. They're great if you work them into a more elaborate set-up (locked down on a tripod or rigged up in a cage w/ rods). They're not really the run-n-gun handheld shooter-type lenses. The size, weight (1K pricetag) and lack of IS on the 50-100 makes it a tough sell for me personally. I find the 18-35mm to be more acceptable in that regard. Especially on like a GH4-boosted crop it has a useful standard range. The price VS optical quality makes the 18-35mm f/1.8 trully killer and in turn a no-brainer, really. I won't personally be getting the 50-100mm anytime soon, but if you can lock it down/rig it up, together with the 18-35mm it makes a fine team with consistent results, so I can see the charm in that.

Blame the consumer, though. Instead of going for brand B, everyone still goes to a store and buys a Canon. If they massively wouldn't, that would call for change, but unfortunately they're in a position where they're allowed to slack. Especially when it comes to the entry-level consumer cameras. There's nothing innovative or outspecced with what they do (with exception perhaps the DualPixel AF that might be the best in its class). But you do have to agree, that Canon's aren't fuzzy. It works quite well. It might be underwhelming in terms of features, but they still deliver the basics well. Tie that to the name that still carries some weight, not neccessarily for what they're doing now, but years back and people still get a Canon camera. And if people still buy your cameras, you don't even need to break a sweat. You can just sit back and see the ca$h come rolling in...

Lol, you turn away for a bit (you know, actual life and work happens) and all hell breaks loose. Someone pointed out the drama happening over at EOSHD, the disaster tourist that I am, I came to check it out. Sad to see this was happening right under our noses and it always sucks when you put trust somewhere where it gets abused. I felt like that when my locked bike got stolen out of our complex. It's usually inaccessible to just anyone (unless someone tricks their way in), so the thing is the very person next door could have taken it as well. That break of trust in a community just hurts. I guess this is sorta like it. But yeah, props for everyone jumping in for these folks that have been robbed of their money. And the moderators for monitoring and regulating. Tough situation, but indeed the priority needs to be to solve the problem... people have had their money stolen, so it has to be un-stolen first. Or the promised goods/service have to be delivered. With an hostile approach and climate, you however might not be able to construct a solution. So I think indeed it's a good idea to leave the involved amongst eachother now to sort it out. Forgiveness. Well, he thought he was untouchable, even gloated about there wasn't a damn thing anybody could do. That's the danger with this digital age, people just think they can get away with anything, because it's only the digital realm and you're safely behind your keyboard, thousands of miles away, possibly on another continent. Well. This just shows. Actions have consequences. As real in the digital as in the actual world we live in. The lies upon lies upon lies and playing victim doesn't convince me this guy is going to be on the right track anytime soon, especially him wanting forummembers to lie for him so he comes off as a saint. It's not having a statue that makes a Saint. It's the actions and road leading to him deserving one. It's: fess up and make amends. Rather than make excuses, work hard to become a better person. I don't know, I don't see much acknowledging of him really understanding what he did, he still wants to forget it ever happened and go back to the way things were. That doesn't make you a better person, that makes you the same person who likes the easy ways out of things. Looks like he feels sorry for himself (that his actions caught up to him, that he left room for error for that to happen), but not for the others involved. If you did something bad, you're supposed to feel shit and be held accountable for it. 'Ah, my bad, but all is forgiven, right?' is a fairytale world. You do the crime, you pay the time. There's no way to sugarcoat it. You gotta earn your way back. It's can't be all pat on the back and all is forgiven. You'd be sending out a message that this behaviour is tolerable as long as you're smart enough to get away with it. And easily forgiven if you don't, so why not everyone just give that a go! See, that doesn't work. And then there's still the question... was there ever a ES Sr.? I feel like there might've been, but that he has been inactive for over a year or so, leaving the most endorsed account (apart from the site's owner) in his prized possession to be used for worse. With all the lies... who knows. Oh well. Anyways. What else did I miss? Myself, I always like to discuss equipment (lenses, cameras, stabilizers, etc) and techniques (ETTR, shooting RAW, processing, lighting, colorcorrecting etc) that helps you tell stories more effectively/gives you more creative options, teaches you new things/helps you grow and ultimately gets you the best results. But I felt like shortly after NAB there wasn't really that much to discuss. Maybe now the X-T2 (but I sorta kinda don't like it all too much, but it's a nice step in the right direction for them; Olympus take note!). AF Samyang lenses sound interesting. Thanks to however pointed me back to EOSHD (who's 'blue' anyways?), I sorta got too sidetracked with actual life and work in order to check-in more regularly with you guys. -- Wait. Zach really got banned? I have an (in meanwhile old) inbox message from him. Can he read it/respond if I reply?

Ciao, grazie! I've only been once before, maybe 7 years ago. Thank god it isn't raining, like I saw it was yesterday. And the bare essentials set-up I picked for later on (don't have any filters or anything with me)... Panasonic GX80 + Zhongyi Lens Turbo II EF - M43 + K&F Concept CY - EOS adapter + CY Zeiss Distagon 28mm f/2.8 & Olympus 75mm f/1.8
-
Sure, it shoots at 1.17x crop compared to 35mm (not like the full frame DSLRs don't like to crop in on video). Still called a full frame camera.

Nothing special about it. You can pick up a RED Epic Dragon or Scarlet Dragon without much problem besides funding. It's ARRI who really have something special, that you rather rent than buy: http://arrirentalgroup.com/alexa65/ . Hateful Eight was shot as 70mm Ultra Panavision format; on film mind you.
-
Well. Sure. You can buy one right now. As long as it has the Dragon sensor upgrade (34.5mm).
-
Well, ARRI perhaps not. RED does nowadays.

I'm travelling to Venice, Italy for work tomorrow. I hope I manage to get some shots with the GX80 while I'm there as well.

I received my Vrizzmo Volt Mk2 the other day. Its one of the more immersive models out there due to the lenses used (experience before with Google Cardboard and the Ling VR). But man, I really got flippin' motion sick using it. I think the software needs a bit of a way before the virtual motion syncs up with real life motion. But I do, like you said, like stuff where you can just look around. The 360 experience part of VR from a fixed point in space. Like the Mini (car brand) little film they made (and discussed before). But indeed these VR Cinema apps do give you kind of the experience sitting in a theatre watching a screen that's pretty far away, yet still pretty big in peripheral vision. This week I actually caught Samsung in my local mall with their Samsung Experience Tour. They brought the Icaros along with them: The built of the Gear VR feels a little flimsy though. The plastic lit just kept on falling off time after time as well. -- Best resource for VR might just be: https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleCardboard/comments/39t5tl/7000_subscribers_extra_basic_cardboard_questions/ .

WoOt!! You got featured. Nice going!

Anything to do with this?

It's pretty typical Chinese to say things like 'don't worry friend, we it will work everything ok, see, we have it, is so good, at later time' (I've had a lot of interaction with Chinese company/sales reps over the years). Sort of reminds me of the Kinefinity guy getting a little cornered there by Rodney as well...
-
Yep. Peak Design. Actually, those are on the LX, not the GX. Now you understand why the two are almost like brothers.
-
Alright. Touché.

Yeah, I have 3 BMPCCs lying around, I find 'em manageable to work with. I would've trade-in two of them for one of those BMMCCs if global shutter was part of the package, but alas. But yeah, it does make for a mean actual micro cinema camera. I think the Craft Camera might be the next best thing... if it actually ever gets done.
-
Wouldn't people just buy the Terra 6 or 5K for less and get some add-ons themselves? I think that should come out around that price or even less for something new or what am I missing here?
-
But basically, you might as well shoot with the BMPCC... given you have your own workarounds for the battery life and don't need the 60p per se? -- or not --
-
Yeah, it's kind of in Nikon Bourne (28-70 and 80-200mm) companionship concerning that. Handheld... meh... possible, but, do you wanna? Like the 50-100mm ART too, no stabilization. So these are more the kinds of lenses you'd use in a 'let's rig up!' scenario. But yeah, they're really really good. True primebusters.

Looks normal to me. It goes from f/2 wide open to f/2.8 zoomed in and the other way around. It has to meter and adjust exposure with steps of shutterspeed/ISO accordingly if you run things automatically, that's not a fluid process. I think you're asking too much if you expect this to come out nicely... -- ok, with the later addition of the aputure set at f/3.5, that is interesting. I think we've seen exposure breathing like this before on the NX1, no? --- hum, check: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/7770-nx1-exposure-drift-problem-fix/ perhaps.

A petition is something with significant public backing that you're going to present to someone to get your way and not theirs. Hacking is more of a community and collaborative effort. I don't see how a petition helps there. Besides, hacks are created out of limitations in a certain line-up. You weren't happy with the GH2 quality? Well tough luck, there wasn't anything better. Want a better Canon? Well, there's the 1D C... btw CHDK goes way back before all of that (it was already happening on general consumer level)! Want a better Nikon? Well, there wasn't much better than the D5300... now there seems to be. NX1 is already representing the Samsung flagship and there's no chance of anything better within the system: hack away! But if you want something better than the G7, we take present day Panasonic and we can get the GH4, soon GH5, an upgrade at reasonable costs. That's segmentation that just works! Besides Panasonic likes to hear out people and implement features they agree they'd like the users to have, rather than having the users tinkering around with their cameras. By now I think it's pretty much air tight to get into, but who knows, with the remote app you could unlock V-LOG L, what's to say there aren't more exploits? Well, judging the userbase I'd say if it was possible, we'd already know about it. I just don't think it's worth forcing time and energy, maybe even funds into it, when you can just buy a better Panasonic camera??! I also generally think the need for better quality is way less than back in the 5DmkII/550D/T2i ML and GH2 days (and you'd have a significant jump up in quality back then as to marginal improvements you could make now).

In that case I'm going with JazzBox. My initial thoughts too. I just thought that maybe you wanted to make a point about cheaper not heaving to mean less good/perhaps even better than expensive. But I guess it's more about value. As with almost everything... and at some point in history I've made a crappy graphic to illustrate just that, let me just bring that back for a moment: So it shows that... x1. when you spend too little cash on something, it doesn't really do all that much for you x2. when you spend just enough cash on something, that it does everything rather well x3. when you're at the point that you have to have the best of the best at all costs, it will cost you all But the real lesson there is... there's a rapid increase in pay off from paying almost nothing to paying a bit more. Expensive can mean better value. However, at some point, the more you spend you just get marginally better results.
