Yeah, you can always start out little and go big later... maybe this is a good entry

Ooh la la. Might as well hand out some tissues with those gear and sample pics. I received the 85mm Veydra today. Tell you what, there aren't enough tissues to go around!! :P Will give it a whirl this weekend.

I'd love to get shots like this on the easy with a DJI: Still love this one too, that's from the time people would still shoot with GoPros... It's really been made accessible for the consumer and prosumer. One of Casey Neistat's signature things to do in his 'episodes' is including aerial video shot with a DJI Phantom... a lot of the times whilst riding a board or bike, although I'm not sure how he hasn't gotten into trouble with the authorities yet... then again, I'm no expert at NY or US legislation and tolerances. Anyways. I used to screw around with cheap Chinese toy quadcopters and lightweight spycams, just to end up with pretty crappy vomit-o-vision video... and look what you can manage to pull of now in 2016... unfortunately, the risen popularity of aerial multirotor platforms has caused the grey areas of the law to be properly defined and restrictive. So, for me it's pretty much a no-go, unless I want to make a business out of it, which would be kinda fun perhaps, but I don't think so. Something like a CineStar looks pretty cool, but you know, that's more of a big production team effort... or their new baby...

Maybe try Artem! My go to guy for Russian lenses can be found here: http://www.ebay.com/usr/artemstore . Always a pleasure doing business with him. He has standard and occassional gems (as well as NOS (New old stock)/surplus). I always find myself going through his offers ever now and again. There's a couple of more stores like it in my favs. Zenit/KMZ/HELIOS/JUPITER/etc never disappoint on character. Contax Yashica Zeiss, it has been said many times before, they have that Super Speed/Ultra Primes-touch. I wanted to go with Leica R as well, but you know... for a whole set you'll be spending pretty crazy money and a fair CY Zeiss set can be had for perhaps what one of your Milvus lenses goes for... just the 21mm f/2.8 is a very rare and expensive one... the 100mm f/2.8 is priced outside of the range of the others as well, the 25, 28, 35, 45, 85 and 135mm aren't actually that mad expensive. The 50mm -> f/1.4 would be the exception to the f/2.8. The 45mm is a bit of an oddball there, it's more of a pancake lens that kinda takes a slight hit on performance. But a very solid line-up otherwise. Not sure how they'd match with the NX1... but I take it there's enough people who've tested the particular combo. I also 2nd the Ai-s! Especially the 28mm f/2.8. It's kind of a legendary one. Very sharp, hardly any distortion (sweet for landscape with D5300). I had gotten mine through: http://www.aclub.com/product-p/nik_28_2.8_mf.htm . They might give you a small discount if you ask nicely.

Yeah, it looked pretty great and it's a more prosumer friendly set-up as well I think. For any more demanding needs, just hire someone. Unless you want to specialize in aerial multirotor applications (and paperwork/risks/addn. fees).

Looks pretty rubbish once he pans around, that just me, or what's going on there..?

Isn't it easier to just use a Sony NP-F or BP-U?
-
Yeah, it doesn't go wrong, until it does. My GH2 suddenly switched off and there was a burned smell from the battery compartment. I've seen how Chinese put together powerbanks when I was in Shenzhen, it's just terrible quality. If I buy something, I want to hold a European company accountable, not a Chinese one that doesn't see the need to adhere to worldwide quality standards. DSTE are the cheapest of the cheapest. There's a reason. But do whatever you're comfortable with. Going all original is a fair approach, as you pay hundreds, if not thousands on a camera and then cheap out on the cheapest bit, but on something that can ruin it all. But if you want a couple of spares for a GH4 or BMPCC for example... it does all add up to a considerable amount going all originals. I'm comfortable putting my faith in the value and quality of Patona.
-
Yeah, I went with the Patona ones for my VA. Patonas have always treated my well (Panasonic, Olympus, Nikon and Sony types... as well as one for my laptop). You can purchase 'em through the Patona trading site, Amazon or eBay. Chilipowder has been decent too. Almost killed my GH2 with imported Chinese DSTE ones. Avoid those like the plague!

Sure. 18650 batteries are ones that are mostly popular for driving the more powerful CREE LED flashlights. https://www.fasttech.com/category/1420/batteries is a reputable seller, avoid things with 'Fire' in the brand's name (good chance they're rubbish and dangerous (like... catching fire)). Panasonic, Samsung and LG would be good bets. I like SoShine ones. Get ones with PCB (Protective Circuit Board). Avoid mixing different brands/models. If you really want to delve into it... here are some further links: http://lygte-info.dk/review/batteries2012/Common18650Summary%20UK.html ( and I'd recommend to get a 2- or 4-bay intellicharger with it from either Nitecore, Sysmax or Jetbeam; http://www.lygte-info.dk/info/indexBatteriesAndChargers%20UK.html ) http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?9-Flashlight-Electronics-Batteries-Included http://budgetlightforum.com/forum/batteries/rechargeable

Best camera within the $500 price range for vloging?

Speaking of the man... he just touched on that and uploaded this : It's interesting, we all thought the 80D was going to be the vlogger's dream, now it seems a partial nightmare. -

Cinegain replied to UploadComplete's topic in Cameras
To be honest, you might as well pick up a Canon G7X, the vlogger's choice of camera. But yeah, nothing's keeping you from getting one of them Canon T6i cameras and do how Casey Neistat rolls and shooting manually. But it's a hassle to carry with you a DSLR at all times. If it's about the journey more than the visuals, just get a decent pocket cam. Canons are easy to work with and aren't very demanding skillswise. -
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. :D One of my fav movies. - Oh yeah, the Olympus looks fine too (though definitely not for me).
-
Sure, if it's an option you'd skip anyways, because you're not going to find use for it, then it's: 'so long, suckaahhh! Arrivederci!' and then thát becomes the pocket change... but actual pocket change... 'ooh, I can do some cool stuff with this'. Maybe it motivates you to go on a petit roadtrip for the weekend. Who knows. If the glass doesn't give you that motivation, then let the money. As long as these moments are there... it's pretty useless if it's really not adding anything, yeah.

Another hands raise for the SLR Magic Hyperprime CINE 25mm T0.95. And yeah, I know the feeling. I probably have way too many myself. But I don't get myself in financial trouble because of it or anything, so honestly I don't really care, atleast I don't collect garden gnomes or tea bags or whatever. I feel like some lenses have such distinct character, that it's hard to deny it a place in your collection. There's always phases I go through that I like some lenses in particular, then I kinda get bored with the look or it doesn't fit the style I'm after and I go with some other ones. But it's always a nice moment of re-discovery to pick one up again. It's like finding some change in a coat's pocket 'ah, I kinda forget about that, woah, cool, what shall I do with it?!'. A lot of people would say: but doesn't the abundance of choice create complications, but I don't think this is the case, I think outspoken projects ask for outspoken lenses. And the other way around... certain optics can inspire a project in itself. Though, it can be very liberating to shoot with a LX100 and forget about everything else as well. But as a lens is a choice, so is picking up a premium compact camera or the choice to stick with just a 35mm on a project. So I can't really say choice is limiting, I think it's freeing. That said. If you have a financial struggle with it, that's another thing. With a tight budget it's a good idea to list your priorities and where your money's currently at, if there's too much money in lenses... then selling off a couple will get you new funds for a new camera body, light, sound, rig, etc. True that.

Well. Then again... which other camera? Were there even other nominees in the category?

I have the 663/O/P2 as well, though I have to say, it's so well made that it's much clunkier and heavier than anticipated and therefor doesn't get much use at all. I think I'm gonna go with one of their new monitors that are coming out which they showed at NAB. The 5" looks just about perfect. The Video Assist is decent, but would only really need the recording functionality with V-Log L. And it only takes 1080p anyways. So it's very rare cases. As a monitor it's just underwhelming... whereas the Lilliput features about anything you can think of except the rather very specific features that are reserved for high-end monitor/recorder combos. I've got eagle eyes sorta, so 5" really works fine for me. 7" is just not compact enough for me, especially on a cage/rig or handheld gimbal stabilizer. But if 7" is your thing, they've got such a version too, new... not sure when they start shipping.

Cheapest cam with clean 4K/10bit output??
Cinegain replied to Xavier Plagaro Mussard's topic in Cameras
Ebrahim has issued plenty of warnings... e.g.1 / e.g.2 / e.g.3 / etc... best to stay away besides the fact that it NEEDS an external monitor and recording. -
Well, atleast they have actually been working on more than digital renders... like some mock-up modelling over Christmas... @ https://www.facebook.com/thecraftcamera/ | https://twitter.com/thecraftcamera -- Scott Bragg @ https://www.instagram.com/cscottbragg/ | http://www.betweenpixels.tv , maybe they were like 'hey... https://twitter.com/Between_Pixels/status/434420623016615936 ; can't we do something like that?' | Involvement in Hollywood production Neighbors 2: https://www.facebook.com/betweenpixels/posts/952790714790894 | Other guy at betweenpixels called Reid Craft... http://reidcraft.tv/collections#between-pixels

Commlite, Soopen, brandless ones... there's tons of rebrands out there. If you just want to use if for aperture control it's probably ok-ish. Wouldn't want to rely on its AF capabilities probably.

Cinegain replied to Xavier Plagaro Mussard's topic in Cameras
GH4 over that one any day. Unless you need it for actual STUDIO work. But... I'm thinking not. -
Well, they specify the 4K for use with the EF and PL mount, which is obvious due to sensor size. However, since it's a design based on common parts, modules and configurability, I assume the hot swap mount is the same on both and so are the adapters. So I assume you can use it, but as you say, not all of the glass might cover S35, causing vignetting (although as you say, you can crop from 4K). Which you probably do not care much for as I assume you just want the flexible mount and some of that native glass carried over from shooting M43 that does cover S35 (or not and just crop).

This looks great too btw, gotta ditch my 663/O/P2 for this:
