  1. The Z E1 isn't really a story telling cinema camera, now. Seems like the Craft cams will be more like a mini RED/Kinefinity/Axiom/BMMCC it seems, atleast somewhere along those lines. The Z E1 is more like a Chinese GoPro with interchangeable lens mount and bigger sensor. Either way, it's welcome to see more players entering the market. Pushes innovation and lowers prices (same for other parts of filmmaking, be it the Veydra and XEEN cine primes or Aputure light panels and monitors). Of course you're allowed to be very sceptical. I at first joked this was just a social experiment, to see how many people would jump on a newsletter without any big effort and promises, just a hip site... whereas the other cam had more to show for, but you couldn't possibly keep a straight face looking at their website and take them all that serious. If they're legit, they did a very 2016-job keeping it mysterious and interesting, creating some talk and speculations about it. And to see how fast you can fill a limited amount of perk-reservations will get you (as a company making these) some insight in how it will be received and perhaps adjust production plans accordingly as well as stabilizing a core base of enthusiastic folks and rewarding them with some perks like discounts for giving them their trust and interest. Indeed much like crowdfunding. Which is also a marketing strategy. People just love to jump on something they can support. Take for example the ridiculous Meyer lenses, I bet they would probably sell shit like I imagine the Handevision ones (must be a reason they keep returning as Amazon lightning deal), shouldn't there have been people looking for new exciting hipster stuff. People don't like corporate schtuff, they want a 'brand of the people'. It's basically clever free promotion, getting press, get people talking. PeakDesign probably doesn't need funds or support anymore, but I bet crowdfunding as a medium just sells easier. And putting down a refundable deposit? You know how many people put down 1000 bucks for the all new Tesla 3? A lot. Sure, Tesla is familliar and Craft Camera isn't, but I don't find it all that fishy. Hey, we'll know soon enough!

    Canon 18-80mm f4

Notice the 'I'd' and 'just me'. I wouldn't shoot a Canon to begin with, tbh. But anyways... the PXW-FS5K for example includes a SELP18105G. That's the Powerzoom 18-105mm f/4 G OSS E-mount lens. It goes for $548.00. You know. Not that I would go that way either. But it just seems a bit over the top... so, more or less typically Canon. But like the XC10, I know there's always going to be people that will appreciate it. I just don't see it. I'll make do with other set-ups. He asked for thoughts, I gave him one.

    Canon 18-80mm f4

$5,225.00 for a T4.4? No thanks. I'd rather adapt something else. But hey, that's just me.
  4. 'Oddity' seems like the right choice of words... Except for the fact that it's got Dual Pixel AF, there to me seems more sensible choices like the BMMCC, Kinefinity Terra... as a purchase or going for a rental with the ARRI Alexa Mini.
  5. ] Let's assume the chart is based offa the 400mm being tele and the 0-origin being 0mm. The B.I.S. does as well as optical image stabilization up to round about 100mm it looks like. So the 75mm Olympus without O.I.S. should still be decent. Just about as good as a 75mm which would have had lens stabilization. Will you use wider lenses... say Panasonic's own 14mm or 20mm panackes or adapt something vintage or cinema prime, the body image stabilizer is even going to be more effective than optical image stabilization would. Of course, should you have a lens with optical image stabilizer, then combining the two forces would result in epic stabilization that's unrivaled. But the B.I.S. system itself is 5-axis ('camera image stabilisation (5-axis sensor based)'). How effective it really is for the things we think about using it for, time will have to tell... Of course, to have some indication, as reported earlier, cablefreak's Instragram has two sample vids with the O.I.S.-lacking Lumix (Leica) 15mm. Btw, that background noise I think is the quite loud humming sound of the 5-axis stabilizer in action.
  6. It shouldn't break the deal, as perhaps you don't get 5-axis Dual IS, but you still get 5-axis B.I.S. with anything else... unless some new info has come to light I'm not aware of? Here, read some more: https://www.ephotozine.com/article/panasonic-lumix-gx80-gx85-review-29143 .
  7. You know exactly what I'm trying to say, come on now. What if I told you that in my opinion the Mazda CX-3 is the car to get rather than the McLaren 675LT Spider? Is it really a fact that the McLaren is the actual better car? Doesn't it depend on your own personal criteria of what makes a great car? So the 675LT Spider goes faster, well the Mazda has the better mileage, etc. How's it different when you talk cameras? You might have different criteria, hence different opinions. Non of the opinions are good as facts (albeit some opinions might be more reasonable than others) unless you make your conclusions quantifiable and post proof comparing results. He didn't present a fact, he even said it's his opinion... twice for crying out loud (based on his personal critera). He doesn't have to provide proof as he claimed it's his opinion. Just let the man have his opinion, already. Geez. If you want to go against it... sure. Ask him about his actual criteria. Then you can come up with measurable results and compare it, proving you're right. But even then there's a question of taste. How do you quantify something that 'looks good' to you? That's different from one person to the next. Not sure why you need everyone with the same opinion here. It's a forum. I value people that share their experience and opinions.
  8. I see they have another YT-channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTfbWPH2Mb0uV3WfjGcYLMg (via their EU Support page). With e.g. So I take it you have both the GH3 and GH4? Then I would just swap out the GH3 for one GX80/85. The 5-axis B.I.S. or Dual IS even is worth some of the trade-offs, but you wouldn't want to lose the options the GH4 provides... so keep that one around a little longer until the GH5 arrives. Yeah, that has got to be a sick camera! It has to surpass the GH4, GX85, BMMCC and A6300, so on the one hand I like they're taking their time, hopefully it will be all we need it to be and more. Definitly worth to wait and see what it will be about. I'm probably going to sell off my D5300 and get the GX80 instead, but it will be rough losing the 24MP APS-C option for stills, especially the Nikon color and organic rendering too. Still though, in-body stabilization is a great tool, but a different one than a gimbal stabilizer is. So, I think getting it to work or getting a replacement is still the better option than calling it quits. Unless you just wanted steady footage, rather than adding fluid motion to shots... but you're right, the GX80 looks rather compelling, but I thought the same about the A6300 at first... and finally didn't end up getting that one either. Time will tell. Anyways. Good luck!
  9. Maybe they can buy up the NX1 production line now that Samsung has no use for it and start inserting some BMD touches to it. I'd prefer a camera NX1 sized that has impressive features and performance as well as decent batterylife and screen on the back that could be used as-is, standalone, over a smaller formfactor that's more or less a sensor in a box and that's that. But I think they don't do that, because they don't want to appeal to the consumer market, but the pro/indy one.
  10. Sorry to hear that! That kinda blows! I do believe Dave had the same issue and only managed to get it right after they showed him exactly how to balance the camera. But I take it, you've already got that down. I hope firmware can fix it! I hope, because the shipment had to come all the way from across the world, that nothing happened during transport leading to this outcome. Either way... it sucks. Atleast I guess I'm glad they're responding promptly, although, it should've just worked with a Mac, I take it that's roughly what 70% of the people getting these are using (PC myself though)? I hope you can work it out and able to start playing around with it soon. Fingers crossed!
  11. The A6300 is probably the best performing APS-C sensor out there. I believe you can just set it to ISO3200 and not worry about it. ISO6400 seems rather acceptable. Checkout test videos, sub-10K ISO the A6300 doesn't give much away to the A7 cameras. Apply some slight Neat Video noise reduction in post and you should be good to go. Also, the A6300 appears to retain details and color just nicely at higher ISO. You can of course invest in some lighting equipment to fill every nook and cranny around your performance with light and even out hotspots better. There's going to be the issue of reliability... as the A6300 is prone to overheating. Unless you need to shoot at nightvision-like sensitivity with only candle- or moonlight I think the A6300's performance should be perfectly usable for your application. If you can re-do a take (you don't state if it's home recordings or events), the reliability of the A6300 might not be a big issue.

Something like this would be rather suitable for that I think: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1009621-REG/sigma_635_101_24_105mm_f4_dg_os.html . Or if in need of something faster either of these perhaps: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/845339-REG/Tamron_SP_24_70mm_f_2_8_DI.html , http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1083947-REG/tamron_sp_15_30mm_f_2_8_di.html . If too pricey: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/652136-USA/Tamron_AFB005C700_SP_AF_17_50mm_f_2_8.html . Of course, you could go for Canon f/4 L lenses too. But that's it pretty much narrowed down, I think. Unless you'd consider IS primes... Tamron have some really interesting ones now; they are the flavors 35mm, 45mm and 85mm f/1.8. There's a 90mm f/2.8 Macro too. And Canon has a couple that would be sweet too; there's the 24 and 28mm f/2.8 and 35mm f/2.
  13. Thought April fools' was just the 1st? Holy moly. I thought their focus was solely on VR now (I guess they can shift focus like their cameras). This could get interesting. Curious if Samsung would follow their path...

Nah, I'm pretty sure that's the old version. Checkout that one link and get Vitaliy to cut you a deal or go over directly to: http://www.zyoptics.net/product/zhongyi-lens-turbo-adapters-for-micro-four-thirds-cameras-m43/ . (Singapore Post (SG) shipping to Europe is about 2 ~ 3 weeks, if they send it low profile import duties might be avoided)
  15. Oh, wait a minute, I'm getting something through... I see... a shape... it's in the sky... no wait... it belongs on the sky but isn't... it's a STAR... Let me get a clearer picture... "Please insert another 50 ct" <inserts coin> Ah yes! The star isn't in the sky... it's on a tile on the floor... I think it must be the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Zach, as this is happening in the future, this must mean that you... you... I see you playing tourist in LA. Get some napkins too. You're gonna spill some icecream on the Walk. Zoltar thanks you and wishes you a prosperous future!

Metabones XL>Metabones>Zhongyi's latest ones>R.J. Lens Turbo>Zhongyi earlier ones>Kipon BAVEyes>Unbranded Zhongyi knock-offs on eBay. I think that's about right. Might find some slightly discounted deals on: http://www.personal-view.com/deals/ .
  17. Yeah. What about Contax Zeiss? 25, 35, 85 f/2.8 and 50mm f/1.4 (or f/1.7). Although it's more like they're all around £200 for nice condition ones, rather than just the one that's most expensive. Ai-s very nice option. FD has always been a thing. Pentax/Takumars could be an option.
  18. I guess you're missing the point where it's not a general concensus or fact, but a person with an opinion. He's pretty spot on what Panasonic image quality concerned. Is it the most ideal camera or does it equal or beat stuff like the Alexa... wouldn't share that opinion. And that's ok too.
  19. That's probably going to be in a OK Go's new music video somehow. Cool schtuff.
  20. Yeah, that would be interesting to know. Is it Nikon 17-35mm, 28-70mm and 80-200mm f/2.8 D? Or Olympus PRO 7-14mm, 12-40 and 40-150mm f/2.8 perhaps? Or something completely different.
  21. I see... yes... something's going to happen in the future...
  22. Maybe they'll do a version with unlocked ProRes. That'd be pretty sweet. Imagine a BMPCC with the formfactor and usability of the GH4R and the new tech avancements such as the GX80 5-axis B.I.S. . But you know, you can only go on what you know... and that would be that MP4 and AVCHD will be their go-to standards, as it has been for years. And especially in something affordable such as the GX80 that's more of a guinea pig than an actual purposely made video tool as it still lacks flat/optimized profiles, interfaces, etc.
  23. Not sure what else but the MP4 4K 100Mbps you expected? M-JPEG 500Mbps? H.265?
