Now they have units availlable. Still discontinued. Could also be a backend problem with faulty stock status displayed.
-
You know. The units left unsold and causing them to leave the market don't just disappear with Samsung quitting. So of course there's still some that need to get sold. Doesn't change the fact that it's stil discontinued. Don't get any ideas.

Video makes it look mechanical?

Yeah, they seem to differentiate between 5-axis B.I.S. and 5-axis Dual I.S. which includes the help of O.I.S. on 2 of the 5 axis. So either way, you're getting the same 5-axis stabilized. Just not Dual without an O.I.S. lens. You know. To keep things simple 'n all... Think so too... all the vintage stuff, all the cinema primes, all the speedboosted third party lenses like the Sigma... suddenly stabilized. With G7-like 4K? 'Oh mama!' (Johnny Bravo voice)

See if you can find Ryan... he's always up to new stuff... having had success with Veydra, it seems he's now looking to create cool lighting options: https://twitter.com/iryanavery . Besides, free sunglasses.

They had some new breakthroughs recently...

Always go see Aputure. They have the more interesting affordable monitors and LED units these days I feel like (as well as some cool other developments like their DEC). Lilliput has a new monitor as well I saw on LinkDelight, seems they've named it after the Odyssey. A lot of features carried over from the 663/O/P2 and then some, but a sleeker form factor it seems (the 663/O/P2 turned out way to bulky for my application). Though, don't know how interesting it is at those prices... especially since it's no recorder. Atomos... Convergent Design... Video Devices... SmallHD, I'm curious if they're working on two things: - small 5 ~ 7" monitor/recorders in the let's say sub 1199 USD range (I don't like to pay more for a monitor/recorder than the typical camera (GH4) I'd be using with it), and - small recorders without a screen That said, Kinefinity definitely seems to be worth paying a visit and see for yourself. Get some of that intel on actual ProRes implementation, lol.

I don't think anyone has ever hated on stills qualities of APS-C Sony/Fujifilm. They're stills cameras after all. The video mode however is a big variable, yet it's good to see them catching up. I wish Olympus would do better video as well, maybe the E-M2 might surprise... but better not get hopes up. On the other hand a much improved GH4 with the GH5 would be interesting too. The X-Pro2 just isn't for me and I can imagine the X-T2 will be mighty interesting, but as well not for me either. Never hurts to have the option though.

You know what I think makes a really good Formula 1 or MotoGP driver? That he's as good in the field as he is with his team of engineers. He not only needs to know his personal limits, he needs to know where his machine shines and where there's room for improvement to squeeze out that little bit of extra oompf. Albert Fast is one of these folks that knows the limitations of his gear and knows what to do in post processing to make it go that much further. I feel like that's the real struggle. It's like flying a plane, everyone can make a decent take-off, just throttle up and yank the yoke... pulling off a smooth landing is a 2nd. You've got to have a feeling and understanding for it. It's about putting the puzzle pieces together, you've got to have that oversight. I'm still trying to get to that place with getting my looks down, figuring out the whole deal with all these different LUTs, techniques and methods especially, since I've been shying away from them except for getting quick impressions how different looks would suit certain footage and then just tinkering away from scratch, which tends to get a little time consuming, but I also don't want to throw in a LUT and look like a Instagram hipster. Tough to find that balance, I salute those who have a natural feel for it! One of my fav looking vids to come across over the last year, must have been this one by Ed on the F35, to me that's just gorgeous synergy of men and tools.

I think everyone would want to use the Sigma... I'm just afraid it will push the possibilities weight & balance wise... you can shift the center of gravity only back so far... the question has been asked on their FB a couple of times and not sure anyone got a reply on that confirming or denying the compatibility. True, I think it's just not of importance to Dave, since he likes his set-up small and not attracting too much attention. But yeah, it would be worth to atleast mention. Exciting you'll be getting yours soon, saw they were a little overwhelmed with how well this is received and are trying as hard as possible to meet demand but can't avoid 3-4 weeks delays for some. Yeah, that's pretty typical Chinese practices unfortunately, I recommend sticking around on their Facebook to ask questions. Dave mentioned contact through Yanherlin is pretty good, just know that he uses his channel and Gmail userhandle (yanherlin at gmail) for Pilotfly: https://www.youtube.com/user/Yanherlin ). Thought they had a set-up video, but I guess I'm mistaken. I guess you could kinda figure what Yoshihide is doing here: -- they now also feature a drone-capable version of the H2, with 2nd arm (no open side) and lockdown mode bracket called the T1... Veydras with PL booster? http://www.veydra.com/product/veydra-1-2x-pl-to-pl-expander/ -- oh wait, that's not what I think it was. It's PL - PL. --- unfortunately if you're working with PL, your more serious work asks for more serious pricing: http://www.pchood.com/PL%20CINE%20LENS?product_id=327 ( http://www.pchood.com/PL%20CINE%20LENS ), http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1221943-REG/gl_optics_10317_zeiss_contax_super_speed.html , also http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1196837-REG/tokina_tc_116p_cinema_11_16mm_t3_0_with.html ( http://www.tokinacinema.com ) or bundles: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1226580-REG/rokinon_xeen_14_24_35.html , these are interesting 2nd hand (e.g.): http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/906631-REG/sony_scl_pk6_f_cinealta_4k_six_lens.html

Hum, Dave got me thinking now, The GX80 with the H2? That would keep things nice 'n light/compact and the 5-axis... and a tilty screen that's useful, also inverted. Dang, imagine taking a nap in january and just now waking up... things change so fast, man. Which kind of is a good point Dave makes... maybe wait till NAB. Who knows what everyone's coming up with. But this sure will do.
-
Ooh, I'm always curious about what Dave thinks, especially since he likes small set-ups like me.
-
Imagine what they could do if they'd not only tweak the software part like they did but as well the hardware part... and then rebrand it as Panasonic AG-AF300.
-
Yeah, the way they make it sound is that either way it results in 5-axis stabilization, just perhaps not Dual (2-axis O.I.S. correcting two of the same axis as the 5-axis B.I.S.). The LUMIX GX85 incorporates a new 5-axis Dual I.S. (Image Stabilizer) for more effective suppression of blur. Combining an O.I.S.(Optical Image Stabilizer, 2-axis) and a B.I.S.(Body Image Stabilizer, 5-axis), the 5-axis Dual I.S. compensates for a larger range of movement than ever before. So yeah... hum.

Yet another For anything cinematography related... probably not worth mentioning.

Yeah, that be my way of implementation too. A vari-angle screen. The E-M5II, which this is kind of similar to, should've been it... but unfortunately isn't (maybe the E-M2). Sony have some great higher segment stuff, but that's twice or thrice the price of the GH4. The A6300 is the direct competitor I'd say, but I can't say I'm eager to jump on that one. That's a good oppertunity for Panasonic to swoop in and claim the segment throne. But I hope they don't rush it. I want a good implementation. GH4, but better sensor chip infrastructure of pulling data and enhanced processing for: cleaner high sensitivity (they should be able to come up with something that's fairly clean up to ISO6400 and well recoverable with denoising), better bit date: improved color & dynamic range, better rolling shutter performance. Of course global shutter would really nail it! But we've learned that's tricky and comes with performance penalties, so I don't see them doing that quite yet. Could be higher MP sensor with 5 ~ 6K. Better codec/bitrate. New LOG approach, maybe V-LOG XL. If they could pull a Blackmagic and do internal ProRes, that would be wicked, but something else I don't see happening quite yet. Anamorphic shooting with de-squeeze. Remember, they've been hammering that the GH4 wasn't designed with all these later add-ons in mind, they're just 'freebies' because of demand and looking into it. The GH5 will be designed as a more serious indy filmmaking tool right from the get-go. In that it should work pretty sweet. Probably getting an EVF update. The vari-angle touchscreen is of course already implemented. For audio interface they might take a look at how the Canon 80D has implemented it. Batterylife is already great. Dual-SD slot is a must. I'd love a battery grip that includes a storage solution much like the PIX-E series field recorder/monitors have, so maybe a new intelligent connector on the bottom. Maybe some nice little accessory that gives you two XLR inputs. Anyways, it would take a while to come up with something like that and implement it well, and the longer they wait, the more likely the tech will be around to support it. So... announcement... no earlier than Photokina. Roll-out, maybe Christmas, maybe Q1 2017. Of course, by then probably the A6500 is already there. But we'll see then.

You must have missed the part where it does have a tilting display...

Carmeras and Gear for Independent Narrative Work only!
Cinegain replied to August McCue's topic in Cameras
Seems they've brought back Comedy Central's The Roast. Burns left and right. Which does nothing but sidetrack us from the matter at hand... F3 looks gorgeous. Makes you wonder that with cameras like that and the F35, how they've managed to screw up the modern color science. Apparently it's rocket science! -
Couple of new H2 videos... I really like those shots in the last video where he moves the camera and tilts.
-
Yes and most of all I like it to happen to Panasonic! And I do have a lot of all manual glass, so it would be nice you didn't have to resort to other cameras or gizmos to get stable handheld shooting (mostly on static shots, but if it works nicely on dynamic shots, that's a huge bonus). -- btw, found something interesting when I was looking for the press release on their official site earlier... the DVX200 getting a firmware upgrade that 'changes the default color palette of the camera to a look designed to be more natural without the need for an adjustment'. If that finds its way in the Lumix line-up it might mean better colors right off the bat!

Sexy! Plus... imagine a GH5 with that if you will...

Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Apparently it's the operating temperature (just by having the camera on, with the display on and flush with the camera body; even shooting stills), not so much the ambient one. So, I think it will be unreliable in any case, unless you're actively cooling the camera bringing down the operating temperature considerably (display hinged, EVF use, battery compartment opened, fans blowing air, sub-zero temperature environments). -
Yeah, I had one 'old stock - as new' and came in with flakes of fungus, or balsam separation or whatevs which did exactly this: 'diffuses the image and/or creates weird bokeh texture'. Said it wasn't there before, must've been the shipping conditions and temperature changes. Such BS. They said they'd handle it with the shipping insurance... never heard a thing back. Kind of slipped my attention, I'm busy enough as it is, so now I'm stuck with it, luckily it was pretty cheap. If someone wants a Tokina AT-X 285 28-85mm f/3.5-4.5 like that, give me a shout, you can have it for double shipping costs.
