Dang, that D500 is going to be hella interesting. Just waiting to see what the Sony A6100 will be like. It will not have the organic rendering and color perhaps, but, it's friggin' mirrorless with a versatile mount (with focal reducer possibility). Compact too. Now Panasonic just has to announce the GH5 and Olympus the OM-D E-M1II and the I can start pulling out my hair.

So, I take it you went without the magnetic upgrade? Sounds good though!

Too bad about the bouncing... did you try the Dexter walk* at all? Some shots were really effective though, especially when turning and/or tilting. The walking around itself just didn't really work for me. Which camera unit was attached here? The X3? I don't see any article/mini review up quite yet? Ah, now it's up.

If you don't mind to wait, let's see what 2016 brings. Panasonic is bound to bring out the GH5 and Sony something APS-C mirrorless. That could get interesting. I'd opt for the Video Devices PIX-E5 as recorder/monitor combo personally. For me 5" would be perfect. Just a suggestion worth looking at I'd say. There's the Ronin-M which is a tad bit smaller/lighter as a set-up. There are a lot of gimbal stabilizers nowadays, make sure to check the YouTube channels of Emm/Cheesycam, Erik Naso, Dave Dugdale and Tom Antos, they review quite a few of these. Wide angle lens, somewhat deep depth of field, fixed pre-focus or get some fancy adapter/follow focus with wirelessly controlled motorized focus. Only the NX1 and some Canons can really be trusted with decent autofocus.

Yeah, 'motion cadence' is something as non-quantifiable and vague as an image that 'pops'. But it kinda has to do with the organic flow of frames following up eachother. Even though the framerate and shutterspeed are set the same, there might be a different feel to the motion with different cameras. Something you can't quite put your finger on, but kinda know its there. Not science, but magic.

It's one of these polarizing cameras where you either hate or love it. But since it has really specific qualities, it's really only going to speak to a select audience just in need of something like it. The majority will keep away from it. It's always a good thing to have choices though, so let there be diversity. This one definately is not for me, but I can how it could work for some, which is great! This! And it's not just about delivering 4K projects... it's mostly about recording them in 4K that will benefit any project, especially when the final product will be in 1080p. Re-frame, punch-in, zoom, pan, stabilize & crop, high quality downsampling, miniturize noise... lots of 4K benefits and flexibility even if you don't need 4K for futureproofing or quality. Although what I'd like to see more is 1440p/2.5K/2.7K modes as well so you can get more meaningful bitdata and higher framerates, still having added flexibility over 1080p, but less data wasted on resolution and more on quality and especially those framerates again. 1080p at 96fps, then 4K at 30p, but how about e.g. 2.5/2.7K at 48fps and 1440p at 60fps?

I watched it this evening. I liked it more than I thought I would, so yay! for going in with temperate expectations. And at the one hand I liked the humor they've added in too, at the other hand, maybe it was a little too much for a Star Wars movie? Did notice that some of the shots, especially with gotten-old-Leia for some reason (maybe she didn't like how she aged and she'd only be in it with a softened image) were a bit out of focus, as I saw mentioned before. Overall pretty great though! Looking forward to the next.

I used to have Fotga everything. Do have some things by Roxsen. But now I'm really really happy with K&F Concept adapters. http://www.kentfaith.com . This would be their Nikon(G)-M4/3 one http://kc.pedoli.com/product-detail-322.html . Has a squeezed and wide aperture depicted on 'em, so you know which way to turn. eBay or AliExpress is a good place to find 'em. Lots of rebranding in the segment. Usually they're all more or less the same. Also tend to end up on Amazon selling for quite a bit more.

Well... given that... ... and the system's death being enough reason for many not to look into possibilities anymore, that's a little wishful thinking... So, I totally get Shield3, if you're going to be on the road a lot and have limited gear to carry around, it will have to be something that's going to provide you with some flexibility. Who would travel around with a lens that's got a stuck aperture? How is that not a big deal? No autofocus? No image stabilization? Doesn't mean you can't work around the limitations... but, why would you put yourself through that? Ok, you can go ahead and get the S lenses and a couple of primes (which isn't really a cheap way to go), forget about any other brand but Samsung. But let's be honest, we're always talking about how great the cameras are... the GH2, G6, GX7, GH4, BMPCC, D5300, A7S, but how much of the user base actually sticks with it for years and years to come? GH-people probably have the latest GH4 (or G7). A7S-people probably have the latest A7SII/A7RII. There's always going to be rapid advancements, so even you would probably find something attractive to upgrade to within the next two years (maybe Blackmagic releases a new Pocket with 4K, global shutter and decent battery life)... then who's going to invest in a full NX system that's going to depreciate a lot in the oncoming years? You can stick with just the 16-50mm S lens, so you have one killer lens that is just flexible enough for about anything and adapt everything else from Nikon and the likes (that's what I would do). Still wouldn't make a very nice travel package though. And for sure would suck if you only already have Canon glass...

We're just a really small group that care enough to consider getting one for the things it can do(, once the price is intriguing enough). It might be the first Samsung camera not just to please your average Joe. But average Joe isn't looking for more than average Joe needs. Certainly if it means he would be buying into a dying breed of a system and will still set him back quite the bit of change. He'd probably rather go for something like the quite brilliant D750 mentioned before, which is awesome for stills and the occasional video that doesn't have to be 4K. So, whoever thinks the NX1 is more alive than ever, despite of being killed off... I'm pretty sure that the ones who believed in it's capability already went and gotten one around full price, with perhaps only a select few now being caught in the net as well. But it's a big ocean out there and they've got no more traps out and are already heading home. Fish aren't just going to jump aboard themselves... they'd have to set more traps for the remaining few miles. (Un-)luckily they have retailers getting rid of whatever they've got on shelves with minimum margins, so there's still some people being persuaded to get one... but I'm pretty certain that's not going to be a whole lot of people. It be interesting to see some numbers on that though.

EOSHD advises Leica on LOG as SL system gets new firmware update
Cinegain replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks, Bob. I was worried you'd be stuck with mucho expensivo Leica options. I know that if you got the moniez for the body, you probably don't mind to spend ca$h on lenses either... but still. Should it have amazing quality video that rivals looks of proper cinema cameras, then you might want to sell off some gear to afford the body and then use lenses you've already got or somewhat cheap ones you can adapt. -
Came out on top for Jordan (atleast for handling, not really mentioning image quality, but he must've seen what he recorded with it, review to come out later):

What's the deal with lenses and adapting with this puppy? -
Nice. I briefly had the understanding I could get one with the 16-50mm S (which I think is a must if you go NX, to have 1 native/electronic excellent go-to lens) for 1299 EUR (so did the employee). Unfortunately when finalizing the paperwork they figured out there was a mistake in the calculation and it was actually going to cost 1899. Missing out with a 1299 I felt was kind of a crime, but at 1899, same as elsewhere, I had to let it go...

Could say google 'BMPCC' or 'G7' as well. I mean, there's bound to be good videos shot with anything, really. But yeah. Ok. 2008 was also the year of the Sony F35 and I certainly don't mind that footage either.
-
lol, my exact thoughts. And 2013... sure, with ML and everything... but it's really a late 2008 camera even...

Can you even mount them? I found out a little while ago you can adapt M43 lenses to E-mount, but didn't find an adapter for the other way around, which kinda weirded me out a bit.

Why do you always post random things non-related to lenses in the lenses topic? Really, I think we said that before, you should have one thread just for ZachGoodwin brainfarts where you can actually just add anything that pops to mind to. Maybe call the topic 'ZachGoodwin presents the 'Dear Diary'-series'. I'd follow that thread. Just try to keep it about lenses here in this one, I'd say...

Yeah, the 717 is pretty legendary. Picked the fluid head up in GH2 times, as recommended on http://www.gh1-hack.info/wiki/ShootingMoviesWithHackOnVeryTightBudget . I think everyone has (had) one, e.g. However, I'm all about lightweight and twistlocks, so I didn't get the video tripod... went ahead and picked up a Velbon Rexi-L and Sirui N-2004. Nice ones. Very affordable as well.

C100 Markii, Sony FS5 or just keep my Panasonic Gear.

Nice-a! Ok. Such lushness to the image. The other looks a little stale in comparison. -

I'd love for you to tell me the second one is the GX7, but I guess we know the answer... -
Exactly, I mean, I could suggest the Phantom Miro for example, but I'm afraid that's probably not in his realm of possibilities.

Yup. The 0.71 or 0.72x, whatever really, just makes the 28mm lens itself act as if you'd fit on a 20mm lens on there. Optically. The sensor crop of 2x still applies. So, equivalent to FF, it's still 40mm-like.
