Just brought mine home, can't wait to start testing it.

Great camera! getting it as soon as it's available.I'm loving the new texture of the body, was hoping they addressed that.

So pushing record on the camera kind of defeats the purpose of having a external recorder right?would the camera be recording internally and externally using the work around?I assume the camera would still be subject to overheating.

Sony RX100 IV review – with 1080p this good, 4K is merely a bonus
EyeSoul replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I have the RX100 IV and really like it.My only real issue is the short battery life,I brought 3 extra batteries just to feel comfortable. The low light performance is good, the noise is more of a fine grain. I just did a test and from what I can see the clear image zoom doesn't seem to degrade quality much. I haven't attempt to shoot anything of real length, meaning 4 to 5 minute takes so I haven't suffered any overheating. The 1080p is so good I barely shoot 4k but it's nice to know it's there if I need brief clips. It's region switchable. -

The camera actually has three steps of internal stabilization.Standard,Active and Intelligent Active, with Active and Intelligent Active having slight crops.Yes familiarity does help with menu navigation,I have two other sony cameras so the menu doesn't bother me as much.I have my most used setting assigned to custom buttons. -

Well the auto-focus is decent for video, even better for photos, not as good as the a6000/a5100,I guess that can be explained by the contrast only auto-focus system. Far as your last question,I have only had the camera a week or so but I havn't been able to focus more quickly by depressing the shutter in video recordings.I tend to manual focus or let the continuous AF do its thing. -

Are you sure you don't have pre-auto focus activated? If so you can turn it off in the menus. -
The a5100 image is quite good for 1080p,slightly better than a6000. I think most people with video in mind would actually purchase a a6000 do to better overall functionality.I wouldn't say it's a crappy camera but a camera mostly brought by people who don't highlight its image strengths. I thought these two videos represent decent video from the cam. https://vimeo.com/109800427 https://vimeo.com/124275133

Official firmware update brings XAVC-S and 120fps to Sony RX10

@captou that card will work fine,I have the exact same one. Actually I have the regular Transcend SDXC class 10 64gb card, not the ultimate.I really didn't expect the card to work so I brought the Sony card just in case. The Sony card works well also. http://www.amazon.com/TS64GSDXC10-SECURE-DIGITAL-Transcend-Digital/dp/B00J79OOW0/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1412097108&sr=8-13&keywords=transcend+64gb+sdxc http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Class-Memory-SF64UY-TQMN/dp/B00B7ID9CU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412097728&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+64gb+sdxc -
Great news for RX10 owners, wish the same thing was did for the a6000. I guess I'll be waiting for the a6100 or a7000. I was wondering, being that they implemented this in the RX10 I would assume there won't be a RX10 MKII release anytime soon?

lol I do admit the dancers could have been a better but I think it's a nice "feel good" song even with the obvious Rob Base parts. I like the energy and movement of the overall piece. -

Not my video but some of the best A6000 footage I have seen yet. I'm convinced they left XAVC S codec out of this camera purposely "just my theory". It would have been too much camera for the asking price. Very organic image, I did spot moire on one of the guys shirt but hell the images still look quite good. -

DRO does indeed lift the shadows but it wasn't that noticble in my video examples. If you really want to see the effect shoot in lowlight switching between DRO off and DRO level 5.I just wanted to see would it give me a little extra dynamic-range in the natural light I was shooting.I didn't notice a significant difference in that specific scenario. -

Actually I prefer to sharpen in post but if I'm going with in-camera sharping I use 0 to -2,just my personal taste. If you download the "out the camera images" I have linked you can see how well the image sharpens in post.I used -3-3-3. -

Far as grading it was more of a stylistic choice to see where I could take the image with out it breaking down to much. Being that the codec is quite fragile I'm of the thinking you don't want to over do it in the grading department. Don't you think +3 for sharpening is a bit excessive?Personally I can't see me using + sharpening at all.I think by the time you reach +3 all organic qualities of the image have quite frankly disappeared. Your left with a more digitally processed looking image,at least that has been my findings. I use the 20,35 and 50mm e-mount lenses which are quite sharp so I think my taste in sharpness settings may be formed by my lens choice. But then again I have old Minolta glass which I still find relatively sharp at 0 sharpness.
