  1. I don't have the Bolex, but I would easily pay ~$500 to get ProRes on the A7rIII
  2. A properly sampled 2K/1080p with enough bitrate can go long way. Most often I shoot 4K to get a proper 1080p image. Thats why I wish all companies offered something similar to what GH5/s offers. An oversampled 1080p intra-frame high bitrate file.
  3. Did the 4K pocket make the competition so desperate? Two suggestions for @Andrew Reid: - Unify all the RAW capable cameras into one sub-forum. Between BM making a splash, Kinefinity, ProRes RAW & RAW output capable cameras, there are a lot to cover. - Turn the lenses pined thread into a sub-forum. Threads can be lens specific and easier to browse through.
  4. Can't say I am not in the same boat as you. I consider your steps the "brute force" method which many times we just have to go through. What I find helps immensely is having an idea of the end result before you even shoot it. Makes both shooting and editing more fun/easier/faster. If you already got the footage, instead of looking at the footage to determine what moments you need to include, try to mentally recollect moments of the event. Our imagination is really good at making good stories but most often external information restricts it. Music can be inspirational as well. Many times I hear a song my imagination runs wild and all the just shots fall in place. Hope it helps.
  5. I agree with John. It might be anecdotal but I believe not being too aggressive on the IR filtration and you don't use NDs, it actually helps with skin tonalities. You can always add a proper ND/IR filter if you need to, but you can't remove whats in the camera. Here are some examples with the BM : http://www.thehurlblog.com/what-is-ir-pollution-and-how-do-you-combat-it-tiffen/ https://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2016/12/blackmagic-ursa-mini-camera-test-series-part-1-9/8/?tm=ic
  6. I agree there are better ways than printing a pattern on a paper. Using film is a better way if someone still has access to it . You can also use a properly made glass filter like this. At the end of the day, while nothing will surpass the quality of a lens designed to use an apodization filter like the Sony STF, you can still have some fun trying and you never know, it might result in a usable result like the one found in the linke webrunner posted.
  7. $200 off on the SLR Magic 8mm f/4 Lens $180 off on the SLR Magic 8mm f/4 Lens https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322738-REG/slr_magic_slr8m4_8mm_f_4_lens.html https://www.43rumors.com/200-off-on-the-slr-magic-8mm-f-4-lens/#disqus_thread
  8. DIY: You can create a gradient in photoshop and print it on a translucent paper. Then cut it out and place it as close to the back glass element (closest to the aperture blades). Or use this image instead of doing it in Photoshop:
  9. I neither want to derail this thread, nor I agree with everything jcs has said over the years, but for anyone feeling depressed, the above steps can be a good alternative to medication. He shouldn't be banned though. He was never offensive to anyone, he just often expressed his opinions as facts like everyone else in any forum ever existed. Oops.
  10. They both have about the same low light performance with an APS-C crop. Rolling shutter is better on the A7rII and you can use the FF 4K as well for reduced rolling shutter and shallow DoF shots. The FF 1080p from A7rII is very good as well. The stills that you can get from A7rII are amazing. Between the two, get the A7rII. But I would still try to save up for the A7III. You will gain better low light, better AF, better colors, amazing battery life, better slomo, faster to operate. For example as others have said, you can sell your A7II higher at other places like ebay/fredmirranda/craigslist.
  11. Yeah unfortunately it has to be LOS to work reliably. I only need the zoom rocker so I can have a smooth clear zoom with prime lenses...
  12. GH5s is a fine camera, but if you are used to shooting stills with the A7ii then GH5s will be a major downgrade. 10bit is not that important unless you are into some serious color grading.
  13. If A7ii served you well and you just need better low light performance + no aliasing then look no further than the A7iii.
  14. May I suggest a wireless version for the folks that want to save even more cash $8: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BEGFOA0/ref=psdc_14015071_t1_B0097DFRMC
  15. Looks like a low megapixel sensor and no 10bit: – Fs series suffer from the success of A7 series (30% of the pro market)S – They can’t implement 10bits 4k in FS5II because this needs to much power consumption, it is not a marketing choice.A – 10 bits 4k will be for the next FS generation R – A7sIII is coming soon, but it’s the most hiden secret, even in internal Sony teams – A7sIII will keep the same “identity”: low resolution sensor and extreme low light capabilities. Usuable High ISO are more important than oversampling.
  16. No thats not true. RAW just means non-debayered data. There are lossy compressed RAW formats from various manufacturers. The reason you can get more information from RAW than non-RAW even from compressed footage with the same bitrate is because there are less "pixels" to compress when you are dealing with RAW. 1/3rd to be exact. Then you can used the extra bitrate to increase your bitdepth, and in consequence get good tonal precision.
  17. Or just use a small aperture and zone focus ;)
  18. 0:26 of the video. Metabones XL 0.64X.
  19. O Charlie Chicken, Where art thou?
  20. Ha no I doubt you did. H1 still has better amps than an average phone so it should still be a bit better. Since the videomicro has a built in amplifier and requires only a tiny bit secondary amplification, the more amplification an external microphone needs, the larger the difference between the H1 and the phone will be. Would you notice it in a street audio recording? Probably not, but for a quiet interview you might. Also it gives you other things like decent built in mics for stereo recording. Also it is easier to boom with the micro or leave at a remote spot without worrying damaging your phone.
  21. Yep, especially when shooting square then this Fuji is great and not that much more expensive than FF cameras. You can use any FF lenses (36x24) and you get almost double the sensor area than what a FF sensor would provide for 1:1 crop. And you can get really good FF glass as well, no need to use the expensive MF glass. Amazing that the Nikon 58mm F1.4G covers the sensor! I would also love to see how a 35mm f/1.4 would look, wide + super shallow DoF! I really like the viewfinder with the rotating base as well. Can't say I am not tempted...
  22. Did you use an SC7 cable or any other TRS to TRRS adapter? Cause the provided cable from the videomicro is not compatible with the phone mic plug. If the phone can provide the plug in power to the videomicro then I doubt you will notice a difference between recording with a quality app on your phone and a dedicated recorder.
