  1. I find the 8bit Log more limiting than the 8bit HLG. For a delivery medium such as the HDRs supported in A7rIII, you can get away with 8bits without sacrificing much of the quality (like no banding). Sony is trying to sell TVs along with these cameras so I am pretty confident that they didn't just add it to match a spec sheet.
  2. I also would like to see better integration with Logic Pro as Premiere has with Audition. I expect better eGPU support as well. For heavy grading HDR, shooting in log should still be preferable, but for mild corrections and edits shooting in HLG might be a more efficient workflow. Lets not forget that along with camera & NLE HDR support a proper monitor is also necessary . Therefore for the time being it is of limited use.
  3. Finally some proper color correction tools! It comes with LUT support as well. https://www.macprovideo.com/hub/news/apple-announces-final-cut-pro-x-104-heres-whats-new https://www.provideocoalition.com/final-cut-pro-10-4-announced-demoed-fcpx-creative-summit/
  4. Anything can be quantified, all it comes down to is a common definition. Sharpness = Acutance + Resolution http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/sharpness.htm
  5. Oh I wish we did. If you need to fight over the camera settings to find something that works sometimes, then you know you don't have reliable AF
  6. Just to be clear: Are you claiming that the average A7r user will find more useful 10bits versus reliable AF? I made a poll so we can find out. https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/4217974#forum-post-60293172
  7. As much as I would love to have 10bit, it doesn't make any sense for the target audience of A7rIII. Having a reliable AF is by far more useful for the average A7r* video user.
  8. I know it was not clear to me either so I had to compare images and also it is compatible with the grip from A9. The EVF and the left control wheel look to be different.
  9. It is the same body as A9, so slightly larger than A7rII with a deeper grip. Also the movie recording button is finally at a usable position.
  10. But once you put an AF lens on the SL the price difference is (at least) double again.
  11. For me the A7rIII is everything that I wished from an A7rII upgrade. These are just the improvements on the video side: Amazing AF from A9 Sgammut3.cine better low light performance lower rolling shutter EVF from A9 Better ergonomics At least double the battery life S35/FF switch with a button! Bright LCD during 4K recording USB3.1 tranfers Dual SD card Improved FF quality Improved IBIS Proxy recording! Personally I don't think there is any competition for Sony right now.

    GX10/XF405

Do you know if you can add the handle on the GX10? The XLR inputs are tempting.. The new Sony Z90 might be a good alternative. It doesn't have the UHD 60p but it has internal 10bit (HD), better EVF, slog at a cheaper price. https://www.provideocoalition.com/new-4k-uhd-camcorders-from-canon-sony-lets-compare/ The AF might be better on Canon but the Sony is not far off. Here is a very informative hands-on: Are camcorders dead? I am not sure, I can see them being very useful for some types of run & gun. Here is an oldie:
  13. A DVXuser forum member Noah Yuan-Vogel shot at various ISOs : http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?356958-New-EVA1-footage-coming/page8 You can download the clips here: https://www.mediafire.com/folder/f0vva21d3xie8/EVA1 Cheers to @Zak Forsman for uploading the parts on YT:
  14. Yeah thats what I see as well. Aliasing is even worse than the 4K FF from A7rii which many people don't like. Really hope Nikon can do something better with their mirrorless.
  15. Yep, I am expecting a similar price in USD as well. Will it be worth it? If they fix that rolling shutter, add 10bit output and 4k 60p, maybe...
  16. I am not sure how a mount can retain "cinema-grade image quality", but cheers to them for having the shortest focal distance relative to the sensor size. While it is annoying to have one more mount, at least you can adapt almost any lens you want or use almost any speedbooster. http://briansmith.com/flange-focal-distance-guide/ P.S. E-mount is even more adaptable since it allows for a FF image circle, but my guess is that Sony doesn't want to share it as much.
  17. They only need to take A9 and add 4K 60p, some form of 10bit codec/output, picture profiles, reduce rolling shutter, and it will be a great camera. Now a GH5 killer for double the price, I am not sure. https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr4-sony-a7siii-a9s-announced-october-18-full-frame-gh5-killer/
  18. I would just add that while 1-2 stops is a good rule of thumb, there are scenes in which you don't need bright shadows but you keep the highlights so normal exposure of slog can be preferable Like night shots or with late sunset light.
  19. Majority of people. With your reasoning, a country could come up with a rule that said a majority means males between 20-40 years old, but that doesn't make it democratic. "Texas, home to 38 electoral votes, has an average of 532,756 potential voters for every electoral vote, according to 2015 census data. In contrast, Wyoming has 149,066 potential voters for each of its three electoral votes, making a vote in Wyoming nearly four times more powerful than a vote in Texas." Here is a nice article about Gerrymandering: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/11/29/how-the-electoral-college-gerrymanders-the-presidential-vote/?utm_term=.47145d0ac20e
  20. I think you missed the point which was "you can't have anti-democratic rules and play the game of democracy". You can call it that but it doesn't mean that it is, especially when my vote is counted differently than yours. But if you want let's start another thread about it because it's a long OT discussion and I can feel John's frustration.
  21. Not my candidate But no, while the result was legal it was not democratic. Most Americans voted for the person that lost. I could argue that there is no single democratic country in the strict sense of the word. Or the "spirit of it" that the "elected" clown likes to use. Any country can make up laws that bypass the spirit of a democratic process. Gerrymandering is a prime example.
