  1. It's not the "immediate" part rather than the relatively restricted space of choices which forces our imagination to live in while shooting.
  2. He said the following at the Toronto Film Festival: "But with 16 you have an immediate patina, an immediate abstraction, an immediate thing that makes it a piece of work" And I wonder, could it be that this "immediate patina & abstraction" almost dictates a frame of mind and actually helps in the creative process? At least thats how I felt back in the day when shooting with T-MAX 400, and I guess a similar feeling could exist when shooting jpegs with the various film styles of Fuji or Olympus. Shooting RAW has its advantages but I see myself enjoying the process less and less. Every movie from Aronofsky (other than Noah), left a lasting impression so I can't wait to get my eyes on mother.
  3. Yeah, image quality wise we are not going to see dramatic changes. Sure things can & will improve like rolling shutter, dynamic range, codecs, sensitivity but none of these really hinder our ability to create a compelling image today. The dramatic shifts are going to happen on the computational side like DBounce said. But then again I am of the opinion that if you notice the difference between a shot taken with an Alexa and one with a Canon 2Ti, then the script is bad.
  4. Cine 3 with its steeper curve has the best skintones as well. No grade necessary. I had a similar problem as well with fast Nikkors & the speedbooster on the BMPCC. In my case it was due to excessive flaring which caused these casts. Better coating on modern lenses helps...
  5. The least you could do is not put words in my mouth. Stopping the insults is also a good idea. China or not, I have not had an SD card not meet its speed class. Have you? UHS has nothing to do with that and just specifies the bus speed and not the speed of the card itself.
  6. Rider? Disingenuous? I am not sure what you are talking about, but I am starting to believe that you also don't know what you are talking about. Advising people to buy a card that is not up to spec only because it works for you ? You should re-read what @philipd wrote:
  7. Again, I might very well be but in the 15 years of using hundreds of SD cards I have never seen a card not supporting its minimum sustained write speed, nor I have met anyone that did. Not even in this forum. What I have seen though, is a plethora of people confusing maximum write speeds with minimum write speeds. You might be the first person outside of my bubble that had a problem, so can you describe your experience ? Was there a problem with a manufacturer or just one faulty card?
  8. I might very well be, but have you ever seen a card that isn't up to its minimum sustained write spec with a system that isn't the bottleneck? I am curious.
  9. Don't confuse the arbitrary speed specs that manufacturers put on their cards with the speed class specification from the SD card association. V90 will be V90, otherwise they either wouldn't be able to use that label, or even worse be liable to very expensive lawsuits. Specifying minimum is way more strict than specifying maximum that you probably achieve only in benchmarks Now if the card is V90 one day and it stops working the next, thats a whole different matter.
  10. Yeah, crazy how the tools in cinematography can change over time, it is so fast that sometimes is hard to keep up with all the new tools. I was aiming for Hero 6 then I found out about Fusion and now I am in confusion.
  11. I am usually not that excited by 360 cameras but the OverCapture mode of Fusion got my attention. Imagine how this can be used for event type shooting, like weddings. Expensive but exciting!
  12. Well, if there was a problem with the camera then I am not sure why they went ahead with all three shorts in the first place. Couldn't they see the problem? Or couldn't they tell them to not use high ISOs before they make all the adjustments? Given the positive experience from the guy at ProAV, I want to believe that it was just a miscalibrated camera with a non optimal flat field correction that they used in the desert. Cause everything else looked fine. So it might have been just bad quality control, and thats why Panasonic HQ put the hold.
  13. If the light doesn't change, and you make sure WB & exposure (and of course all other camera color settings) are consistent across clips, then yes using one LUT can make things easier. Of course using the colorchecker every now and then wouldn't be a bad idea.
  14. It is true that in most cases we don't need 4K, HD should be good enough. But to get proper HD, we need oversampling and therefore we need 4K.
  15. It doesn't really matter how they are going to call it. Most probably they will use the same body as the A9, and its AF capabilities.
  16. You will need to shoot the original real life image though I do wish they would allow baking in 3D LUTs with the GH5. So much potential.
  17. There is one for $1400 @ ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-PMW-F3-camera-super-35mm-XDCAM-EX-HD-camcorder-S-LOG-SxS-4-4-4-RGB-/172874331382?epid=109366082&hash=item28401cf4f6:g:FdYAAOSwIZBZwdUE
  18. Such a pity for D16. As they said, it was hard to make a profit without increasing their margins & price. I would love to see a D16 v2 even with the same sensor but in my opinion it would be nice to have: - removable battery - EVF, either build it or detachable. - Some compressed codec with backed in LUT support. - Half the size (XLR inputs can be a detachable module, no crank , V90 SD card support) - Half the price Maybe they could sell their rights to a Chinese company ... Such a wonderful sensor, look at this color:
  19. Wait you are "fairly sure" that a national study for the Department of Justice is "bullshit" based on what exactly? Kilpatrick, Dean G.; Resnick, Heidi S.; Ruggiero, Kenneth J.; Conoscenti, Lauren M.; McCauley, Jenna (July 2007). "Drug-facilitated, Incapacitated, and Forcible Rape: A National Study" And who is "they" ?
  20. Yeah focus only works with Canons and i doubt it will come to other cameras since manufacturers have to support it over USB.. Also the size is quite large so it can work with C100mk2 or FS5 but for smaller cameras crane 1 v2 might be a better (lighter & cheaper) solution.
