A9 FF 4K should be about ~25ms : http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2017/08/22/a-new-test-debuts-at-ir-the-sony-a9-rolling-shutter-is-pretty-minimal There are reports that the S35 has faster readout with not much hit on the quality. Such a shame not to implement the ~7ms of stills during video mode. I am interesting to see what they did with RX0 that has the same fast readout technology, and is targeted for "action" ... The other camera that would be interesting to check is the E-M1 mkII. It will probably be better than all other 4K cameras here. Not the most cinematic look, but coupled with the excellent IBIS it will be very useful for handheld stuff.

With follow focus no less! I only wish it would be possible to add a 90deg angle to the handle like this: -

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware
Don Kotlos replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
From what I have seen GH5 can produce really nice colors once the proper LUT is used James Miller GH5 examples are still the reference point for me. The new firmware will only improve the colors from that so for $1800 is a steal. Now if we talk about a $7500 camera the expectations are higher. 4 times higher to be exact... -

On cMP & 10.12.6, QT does not play them at all, Davinci Resolve gives me the same error but VLC and FCPX play them fine. -
Funny that Sony added picture profiles and Slog in a $700 action camera but removed them in their professional $4.5K FF camera. But yes, the lack of internal 4k will kill it as a solution for drones. Probably a 5min limit would not work well with an action camera The improved rolling shutter technology is great, but I wonder if it is also implemented in video, cause in the A9 it does not : http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2017/08/22/a-new-test-debuts-at-ir-the-sony-a9-rolling-shutter-is-pretty-minimal

FYI Sony just released RX0, a new action camera: https://www.sony.com/electronics/cyber-shot-compact-cameras/dsc-rx0#editorial_hotspots_747101713265964054322088 It is quite bit more expensive compared to the other action cameras but it has a better & larger sensor and it comes with picture profiles! That f/4 aperture though is going to sacrifice quite a bit of light.

Definitely, but it is unpolished enough to not hide real life problems. I am sure D850 can produce really nice looking videos, it is just a bit harder.

Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware

10bits and smooth playback don't matter, just the bitrate Sorry, couldn't help myself. Funny thing, he later argues for HEVC 200mbps. Back to the subject, I am glad that GH5 has raised the bar so high and now puts a lot of pressure on other companies as well. Hard to go wrong with the GH5. I only wish for another update to allow baked in LUTs. Will make it a color monster! -
This video illustrates most of my problems with D850. rolling shutter artifacts, micro-vibrations, noisy and lousy AF. Especially the micro vibrations coupled with the AF noise gave me a chilling flashback of my D800 days. It is no joke that once you have IBIS, EVF, and proper AF it is next to impossible to go back. Great stills camera as D850 may be, for video I would look elsewhere.

The last picture from @gt3rs reminded me one more thing: If you want these half in/ half out shots, you need a lens with a large diameter front glass. I never really thought about it, and I found out that it was almost impossible to get with the TG-5.
-
I used the tg-5 for a couple of weeks before I returned it, and its an impressive little camera. Olympus is using the same processor as in E-M1II and makes this a very speedy little camera. AF is very fast, and it carries most of the menus from E-M1ii, but unfortunately not all. It does have a small sensor though, as large as the go pro, so don't expect something much better. If your output is HD you might be able to get around the quality loss by shooting 4K and downsampling. My suggestion would be that if you need an action camera that is small, quick and easy to start shooting with then either the TG-5 or go pro are good choices. But if you want good quality video you should definitely get a cage for the A6300 since there is a HUGE difference. There are good cages out there which offer much much better sealing than either the TG-5 or go pro, not cheap though but TG-5 is fairly expensive as well.

While it is true that individuals have little power to change the world compared to the masses, we still need independent individuals within the mass in order to find optimal directions of change. As @jcs mentioned, the multidimensionality of ideas cannot be simplified to just left or right, especially with modern systems in which democracy is reduced to voting once every few years. People need to play a more active role in which political discussions are always encouraged and never suppressed, and education should be the first and most important step for the evolution of every society.

I am not sure if your response is meant to be sarcastic, but if not I am really puzzled by it. Are you in favor of a mod that deletes posts, locks threads, promotes or even posts personal insults and pushes people to leave the forum? But a mod with responses that in your limited experience you find annoying is what bothers you most, or enough to drive you away? What am I missing here?

From Matthew Allard at newsshooter: "Well today I found out directly from the Canon C200 engineers that the new codec that will be introduced early in 2018 will be XF-AVC YCbCr 4:2:0 8bit, and it will be a free upgrade (if you can call it that). It will also be recorded to the SD cards and not the CFast card." http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/08/24/new-codec-coming-to-the-c200-in-2018-will-only-be-420-8-bit/

In trump age, it doesn't matter. Actually it might even help. I believe that humans (unfortunately) have a sadistic side. Hollywood takes advantage of that: most people enjoy watching the beating of the bad guy. In real life of course there is not really a bad guy, but just another point of view. And of course we either forget that or more likely we don't spend the effort to understand them. Its easier to generalize, enforce our personal norms and punish.

While I agree that moderation of this thread was at least poor, I believe people can change and as yourself I am against harsh actions. This thread (if not deleted) will be here to remind us of how moderation should NOT be done. The level of personal attacks allowed or even supported has never been an EOSHD norm nor should it ever be. It doesn't matter if you disagree with someone's political views or passionate words.

Just an update on this issue: "Under the terms of the decree, the Manhattan photo, video, audio, and digital imaging retailer has agreed to pay $3,220,000 in back wages and other monetary relief to more than 1,300 affected class members. B&H also agreed to hire a workplace consultant to help correct its employment practices and workplace conduct at its Brooklyn Navy Yard warehouse, as well as its future warehouse in Florence, New Jersey. The company also agreed to provide its managers with annual training on equal opportunity principles and prevention of workplace harassment." https://www.dol.gov/newsroom/releases/ofccp/ofccp20170814 And here is a commentary from a former B&H employee: http://www.thephoblographer.com/2017/08/16/bh-photo-pay-3-2-million-discrimination-lawsuit/

LS300 and GX80 with Video Assist 4K - no difference in image.
Don Kotlos replied to Anaconda_'s topic in Cameras
I don't know why he deleted that video but he mentions the same thing in the description from another video: "Interestingly it produces a superior result over adding the same LUT in post. macro blocking and picture breakup are very much reduced." So yes get that LUT baked in! -

Have you compared the footage from the Assassin with the LUT baked in or applied in post? -
Unfortunately after effects CC is one of the most inefficient programs out there... AE needs a GPU for better performance : https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-After-Effects-CC-2015-3-Pascal-GPU-Performance-846/ but that is any GPU so your 580 should be good enough. Also the multithreading efficiency sucks after 4 cores so you better optimize the frequency: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-After-Effects-CC-2015-3-Multi-Core-Performance-843/ https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/After-Effects-CC-2017-2-CPU-Comparison-Skylake-X-Kaby-Lake-X-Broadwell-E-Kaby-Lake-Ryzen-7-977/ Premiere uses the GPU but if you lower the resolution your 580 should be good : Resolve on the other hand can use as much GPU power as you have (FYI you need studio for multi GPUs) and not so much the CPU (4 cores should be plenty for encoding/decoding) :
-
Not impossible but that seems kind of high without nitrogen cooling . Its some bug in how the windows calculates the frequency. Get the CPU-Z and that will tell you the correct frequency. For standardized testing, handbrake will give you a good approximation on speed for multithreaded rendering: http://www.anandtech.com/show/11170/the-amd-zen-and-ryzen-7-review-a-deep-dive-on-1800x-1700x-and-1700/20 My guess would be that your I7 3770K would give you similar encoding performance to the i5-7400 of the previous tests. But for actual performance nothing beats more realistic testing with Premiere (which I assume you are using from the picture) : https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CC-2017-1-2-CPU-Comparison-Skylake-X-Kaby-Lake-X-Broadwell-E-Kaby-Lake-Ryzen-7-969/ The Ryzen CPUs are great for multithreaded tasks but kind of suck for single threaded operations like stabilization. Here is are some tests for multithreaded performance in Premiere: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CC-2015-Multi-Core-Performance-Update1-806/ If you do upgrade, don't forget the GPU: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Premiere-Pro-CC-2017-NVIDIA-Titan-Xp-12GB-Performance-930/ and the storage: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CC-2015-4-Storage-Optimization-854/ and increase that RAM to 64GB EDIT: I see in another thread that you are also using Resolve in which case a very strong GPU will have a larger effect than the CPU

Latest beta is out. I hadn't tested previous betas, but compared to 12.5 this beta performs much better. Creating proxies takes 50% less time, but you can even work with native XAVC-S 4k Sony files! I haven't experienced any crashes yet. Here is a update of the previous beta : http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/07/17/editing-start-finish-davinci-resolve-14-worth-upgrade/
