  1. FCPX is great, other than the fact that it needs very expensive plugins for proper color grading. Its also unfortunate for many people that runs only with macs but a $1000 hackintosh (steps here) or a used laptop even from 2013 are not that expensive. Plus you can use an eGPU to make FCPX or Resolve run like they do with a desktop: I played with capture-one and is indeed very very good. Much better color editing especially when dealing with skin-tones. When my CC subscription expires I will most probably go that route as well.
  2. Yep they need to disable the temporal noise reduction. Even though it generally looks alright there are cases that it creates strange artifacts (and no his leg was not wiggling around , EDIT but now that I think about it might might be due to shooting at higher frame-rate and then exporting at 24p but there are other examples as well) : from
  3. 7 or 9 it doesn't really matter, most probably they will just continue with one number and the body will be shared among all of these with the A9 (flash sync port makes no sense for action camera). So along will come at least the button layout, menu system, batter EVF and dual memory slot. The real problem is if Sony decides to carry on with this stupid decision to remove picture profiles from all non-video oriented cameras. The least they could do is offer it as an app for $100 but I doubt that.
  4. Since I mostly need gimbal for low angle shots I am more interested in a setup like this: I feel it will be much more comfortable than holding the provided vertical grip upside down and I am sure it can be done with the battery base. Anyone has experience with a setup like this?
  5. It is quite hard for a new companies to come up with an actually usable product. Look at how long it has taken AXIOM to come up with one. How many years did it take BM to be able to ship bug-free cameras within a reasonable time frame and offer semi-decent support? And the competition in this tiny market is pretty hard, just look how quickly Samsung left the market or the exit of Digital Bolex. If we want to see better & more competitive cameras at lower price points (even from big players) then new camera companies need even more support from the community and certainly not bashing. Sure if you plan for a shoot now, buying a Terra does not make sense since it is not immediately available and if something goes wrong it might have to go roundtrip to China. But vaporware? Hell no. Look at all the footage from people actually using the camera. vaporware: software or hardware that has been advertised but is not yet available to buy, either because it is only a concept or because it is still being written or designed
  6. OK and a hybrid between A9 & C300mkii at $1000
  7. The only unannounced products that disappointed me were 1. a compact 4K ninja/ninja star/blade. 2. BM pocket v.2
  8. Looks very good. I would add recent posts/ popular threads/ pinned threads on the side (below search) as well.
  9. Let me start with this: ~ 2-4 hours 4K --> 1080p in premiere is nicely multithreaded up to 4 cores (here & here). After that nothing. Transcoding to 4K is up to 8 cores. Also premiere does not use the GPU for transcoding, whereas Resolve does (here), so it might be a solution for you. It will but don't get me wrong, if you need to edit 2-4 hour footage in a day, then any advantage that an upgrade will give you (which it will) might be worth it. Have a look at all the articles about Premiere performance over at Puget systems you will get a very good feel of the hardware you need.
  10. As Phil & Sage already mentioned, it is the codec that gives you problems & proxies are really the real solution for smooth editing. Some time back I did some tests with sony XAVC-S files, and I found that CPU chokes very easily with the H264 codec. Keep in mind that I used an overclocked 8 core CPU so don't expect much better improvement with a new system. You will get a far far better experience by using proxies which are now natively supported in Premiere. GPU is used only for effects and once you hit the GPU limits lowering the playback resolution makes a tremendous difference.
  11. There are plenty of examples if you are willing to look: They are also at NAB:
  12. 50mm I believe anamorphic adapters do not change the FoV/pixel ratio that is necessary to convert angular movement to sensor shift offset. Another way to think about it is that anamorphic adapters only affect the horizontal axis FoV and not the vertical axis...
  13. Either Sony licensed it to them, or it was never really locked by Sony (or they used it anyway ) . This is great news either way since the e-mount is currently the most adaptable mount as far as lens selection & sensor size. Once it starts shipping, the 5K Terra could be a very good alternative at $5K now that Ursa mini 4.6K will not get the global shutter.
  14. I just tested the Akitio Node. Everything run great, easy to setup and no problems what so ever. At the end I returned it, but only because I preordered the Mantiz Venus. If you are interested for an egpu solution then there is a very helpful community at https://egpu.io/ . You can find all sorts of combinations of GPUs/Cases/Computers.
  15. Bollocks. Not only they have Picture Profiles in RX100, but they made a big deal about 6K-->4K video during the A9 release FFS. They simply don't want video oriented people to get this camera. Had they included PP there would be very little point in getting the A7sii anymore. On the fun side, I just found the best feature of the A9 camera: They have an actual bar that indicates the buffer capacity. It feels like a (very expensive) first person shooter game: EDIT: It would be really funny if they had a temperature bar as well :D
  16. Nothing an external GPU can't solve :
  17. Well AVID just released a free version of their popular NLE: http://www.4kshooters.net/2017/04/25/nab-2017-avid-media-composer-first-is-a-free-version-of-hollywoods-favourite-nle/ These free solutions are very good news for this community!
  18. Where is this thing? Anyone spotted it at NAB?
  19. Have you disabled the GPU support? If not, give it a try.
  20. FE is locked by Sony I get it, but I can't figure out why nobody can come with an open standard mount for mirrorless that supports FF lenses. It is very sad to see companies like BM & Panasonic use almost archaic DSLR mounts only because there is no other available mount, which restricts both the number of lenses that can be adapted and the usefulness of speed boosters. In my opinion JVC ls300 at least tried, even if that meant breaking the m4/3 standard. Still far more useful than an EF mount.
  21. As a recent FCPX convert I can attest to the fluidity of this program. While it's excellent for simple projects, it is far from having the feature set of Premiere or it's integration with After Effects & Audition. Any decent color grading requires expensive plugins and not to mention buying an overpriced Apple computer. With the bad performance and fairly high price of Premiere, Davinci Resolve 14 should really attack this segment with better NLE experience and audio support/processing.
  22. I abandoned Premiere for FCPX & Resolve mainly for 3 reasons: 1. Its hard to afford or justify their subscription model, unless you are a professional that makes a ton of money. It would probably be cheaper if they charged me by the hour! So I spent $200 for FCPX with Motion & Logic pro. 2. CPU hog and bad XAVC-S handling. There us just no way I would even be comfortable editing 4K on a laptop. With FCPX & Resolve I can edit 4K footage with plenty of effects like butter with a dual core laptop and an external GPU. 3. Color shifts on skin tones.
