Transcoding to a CPU friendly codec such as Prores will help A LOT when you want smooth scrubbing playback. Reducing the resolution will help performance when using effects. See this post for more details:
-
Yep, thats what I found the hard way. To their credit, I believe they offer the widest codec support but even if you don't have to transcode you are better off doing it when dealing with non optimized codecs. Yes! Proxy support (ingest) made editing butter smooth with literally no extra effort. For 4K XAVC-S to cineform 720p my 8core machine does it in 5X in the background while I am editing so not bad at all.
-
Apparently there are people that buy 8K cameras for vloging. The bar is now raised and I am not sure how you can make a romantic comedy with anything less than 8K. Crazy world. And by that I mean the mentally deranged people in it.

I wonder if many people know who that is. His name is Fulgencio Batista, one of the many US-backed dictators of the world. Here is the wiki article for more information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulgencio_Batista. I urge you to read it, it will not take more than 5 minutes of your time. If you don't then I will just include three quotes from your past president JFK: "At the beginning of 1959 United States companies owned about 40 percent of the Cuban sugar lands—almost all the cattle ranches—90 percent of the mines and mineral concessions—80 percent of the utilities—practically all the oil industry—and supplied two-thirds of Cuba's imports". "Fulgencio Batista murdered 20,000 Cubans in seven years ... and he turned Democratic Cuba into a complete police state—destroying every individual liberty. Yet our aid to his regime, and the ineptness of our policies, enabled Batista to invoke the name of the United States in support of his reign of terror. Administration spokesmen publicly praised Batista—hailed him as a staunch ally and a good friend—at a time when Batista was murdering thousands, destroying the last vestiges of freedom, and stealing hundreds of millions of dollars from the Cuban people, and we failed to press for free elections" "Batista's rule was one of the most bloody and repressive dictatorships in the long history of Latin American repression"" Fidel was an attorney who had run for parliament in 1952 elections that Batista canceled with yet another coup. When Batista felt he had made his fortune he fled Cuba with it, and after years of struggle Fidel and his army took charge. Guess what happened after that. The bay of pigs invasion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_of_Pigs_Invasion). I bet this will make a much more interesting story that can educate people and help them elect wiser Presidents. P.S. Oliver Stone has two documentaries about Fidel Castro that are worth watching. Also Oliver Stone's "Untold history of US" is a great doc series to watch.

The article that goes with the video: http://www.newsshooter.com/2016/11/28/olympus-omd-e-m1-ii-controls-and-handling-for-video-first-look/ "There is a HDMI port which should be capable of UHD 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 output " I am not sure if it was an error but it will be great if true. At the same time it is very disappointing to see that: "It’s worth noting that you can’t currently get DCI 4K out of the HDMI for external monitoring or recording". WTH Olympus? Another annoyance: "The problem I found was that there was no way to switch between autofocus and manual focus once you started to record". Also tracking is not that great but I guess it can work in some situations:
-
Two other interesting features are 1. "Movie Tele-converter (approx. 3x): This function lets you take zoomed-in shots of the area you touch on the monitor during shooting while maintaining high image quality." 2. "HDMI output (actual size) + camera monitor (magnified) display. During standby when shooting a movie, you can magnify the camera monitor on its own for more accurate focusing." Now if someone is not interested in the photography part of the camera it will still be a hard sell at $2000, but if you were looking for a miniature D5/1Dx then this is a bargain.

Resurrecting this thread because of the holiday. I urge you to watch it.

Yep and from the behind the scenes of circle it looks the recorder is the inseparable from quadcopter. They might come up with a seperate handheld base, it won't be cheap but probably cheaper than the quad.

They should, cause the number of different worlds will only go up and I don't want to imagine what kind of president comes then...

2 problems: 1. You already mentioned it, flange distance is about the same between mirrorless mounts (E being the shortest) so nothing can be really inserted in between. 2. Speed boosters have their own aperture which is smaller than any of these fast lenses so that places an upper bound on what you can achieve.

For low budget clients I would just keep the final render (and tell them of course). If you need to keep the project for referencing I would create small proxies & the project settings, cause storing everything in high quality not only drives up costs but it's pain to manage after years. You could also keep the files for 1-2 years and then delete just in case you need them again. Gia xara

That would be the bitrate these two settings have. If they use an H264 codec, my guess is not lower than ~200mbps (~25MB/sec) in order to have some decent quality. I would really like to see ~500mbps (~60MB/sec) but no V60 SD cards have been released yet so I doubt that will happen. The market for GH5 next year might be finally ready for HEVC in which case you get the same quality for about half the bitrate.

Denying the platform to speak is the real problem in a democracy. If Trump's rhetoric attracts people, we should look at why people are attracted to his views in the first place, and not blame media or Trump. I would never vote for Trump, but given the responses that float around I am starting to believe that there is a serious disconnect between people in the states. Maybe US just got the president that actually represents the views of the average citizen and that should definitely get explored more. If anything this election will help people really understand the properties of a Democracy. Are media biased ? Sure, but they should never be the platform of a Democracy. -

Just a clarification: In a democracy everyone shares responsibility. It doesn't matter whether you voted for Trump or Clinton. "The American People" voted for Trump and they should all be responsible for his actions. -
If anyone gets this camera for video then the first thing they should do is disable the digital stabilization when walking: That comparison was done with UHD and not C4K. The latter appears to be better:

Don't take that literally, just understand the idea behind it. He clearly meant women need to be treated with respect
-
Jonesy while I respect your opinion, putting in the same sentence "lets build a wall" and "sensible immigration policy" is contradiction. I agree that we should take people more seriously, but polarized opinions like that don't help.

This is where I disagree. I believe for many the monster was Hillary and not Trump. Trump with his polarizing views (and equally polarizing responses by many in the media), just attracted more viewers and raised ratings thus the extensive coverage. Did that influence voters? Sure it did. But are the media the one to blame? The main takeaway from these elections is that many voters are disgusted by the system, mainly the political system. Its the same system that denied Sanders a fair vote. If you don't trust wikileaks I can tell you with certainty that the DNC was asking for donations to Hillary long before the end of the primaries. So while both Trump and Sanders were trying to represent people, Sanders was f*cked by the democratic party itself. After people seeing this, many of them democrats, how could they on earth vote for Hillary? So don't blame the media. Blame the democrats, blame the system. Yes, I am all for that. Can we learn from this? Yes, we always do. But will it be easy to change the system? No. Do I believe that voting for a president can change it? No. It requires good education for everyone. It requires motivated people and constant effort. And most importantly it requires time. Let’s keep in mind that our feelings of disappointment with Trump might be similar to the disappointment that plenty of people had with Obama, or the disappointment that many people would have with Hillary. Democracy, even in its most distant form in US, is still as good as the people inside it, and we have to accept that in order to change. I regard Trump as just another noisy sample in history’s long long, curve towards better societies. And here is a far left philosopher that argued a similar thing: -
More info: Dual SD slots Another IBIS confirmation Price similar to E-M1mkii http://www.43rumors.com/new-gh5-and-leica-lens-images-from-paris/ http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasonic-gh5-price-is-the-same-one-as-the-e-m1ii/

But if it makes money why will it matter if it is safe or not?

Rolling shutter seems dramatically better than E-M10mkii. E-M1mkii on the left E-M10mkii on the right shooting water droplets with the same shutter speed and electronic shutter: From Robin Wong here: https://robinwong.blogspot.be/2016/11/olympus-om-d-e-m1-mark-ii-review_8.html

Articulating screen in EM1mkii + handheld use - Why?
Don Kotlos replied to Don Kotlos's topic in Cameras
As Cinegain correctly noticed, I made it myself. I spent hours trying to find the smallest possible cable on Ebay with the flattest connector profile but no luck. At the end I trimmed the edges of two connectors to the bare minimum, soldered the cable back and used epoxy to stabilize and shield the connection. Soldering was a b*tch but definitely worth the trouble. Now I can use the EVF with the mic attached! -
Yes this is a low res version so performance improves. Quality will be lower but for editing and color grading is fine. When you need the high quality originals it is very easy to swap between the two as well.

Yeah I get that but why not make it actually work by placing the ports lower that the pivot point of the LCD? As is now, when using mic and/or headphones it moves from being an inconvenience (to me) to unusable.
