  1. I have been using the rec709 LUTs from @benymypony to grade RAW files for quite some time. My process is Lightroom for basic editing, then edit in Photoshot to set the LUT. In my opinion film packs have neither the quality or range of LUTs and are crazy expensive for what you get.
  2. I don't know what menus are you talking about... My X-Pro1 does not have any..
  3. Axel, unfortunately I don't have a Canon which if I did I would provide the results. I have been asking around this forum for people to do this though, but nobody did it yet...
  4. Maybe not but that's what I read here: Excactly... Again, Slog is only one part of the equation. Then there are color gammut, white balance (temp + tint), color phase, color depth just to name few, none of which are mentioned in any of your comparisons. Also we have to keep in mind that Slog2 is a more aggressive log than the clog and other Sony profiles (like cine 4 with cinema color gammut) are much closer. I might be wrong, but please show me a test that did all these things and concluded that its not possible to get a similar color response with Sony.
  5. The more I read this thread the more I am led to believe that people just don't know how to use color profiles correctly. Comparing S-log2 straight from the camera to H265, complain that colors are not saturated accurately, or that is a painful workflow? Com'on you are better than that. Use a cine profile and adjust color phase/ color depth to your liking. Most people agree that straight out of the box Sony's colors are not that great. But if you fail to properly tune the color response IN CAMERA to your liking when dealing with any compressed 8bit codec, then that is not the fault of any camera. You don't want to do that? That's fine use a Canon or a Nikon nobody cares really, but agree at least that you are not willing to work with the camera.
  6. I understand people have preferences but there are some things that should be stated correctly. 1. HD FF resolution is better on the A7rII than the D750 2. Rolling shutter is also faster on the A7rII with FF HD than the D750. A7rII HD ~ 13ms D750 HD ~ 20ms (similar to the 5DMIII as shown here) 3. As others have mentioned, while motion cadence can be influenced by the codec and the camera most of the cases it is other things such as shutter angle that cause problems. Personally I have not experienced the issues that you mentioned and in a comparisson here with the A7s and GH4 I cannot see a difference: 4. Color science just means correct white balance + some custom color profile. I am going to agree with the point that some cameras such as D750 or the Canons have better color out of the box. But that is very different from saying the Sony cannot produce nice colors. Anyone that is serious about video should calibrate the camera colors to their preferences (Sony allows you to) and do a proper white balance before each shot. For example using S-log3/S-gammut for everything with some random LUTs and AWB, will most definitely lead to bad colors. Again it is fine not to like a camera but we should separate personal preferences from the usefulness of the camera. At the end, cameras are just tools and we should find ways to make the best out of them.
  7. Fuji might have a large lens lineup of good quality aps-c lenses but for serious video usage most of them are next to useless with their fly-by-wire focusing system. At least with A6300 you have a great AF system to work with.

  9. At small print sizes both cameras can give excellent results. Hard to distinguish between the two. If you pixel peep the noise patterns are different, finer on the A7rII more filmlike on the A7sII (what you might call "organic" but that is easily matched in post). The following two are really the main differences: - The AF of the A7rii is amazing for moving subjects and eye detection. Really revolutionary. - Resolution is great not only if you print large, but also if you only want to carry one lens and crop later. I routinely put just a tiny 35mm and with that resolution it can act like a zoom. So unless you print large, don't mind about carrying multiple lenses / zooms and primarily use MF then yes A7sii can be great.
  10. For E mount sony users the only problem would be getting AF with the adapted nikons. Since Sigma will also announce an Canon to Sony auto-focus adapter If I have a Sony E cam then I would go with the Canon version.
  11. $1000 off and a 120fps firmware update: http://pro.jvc.com/pro/pr/2016/releases/gyls300_slomo.html
  12. Don't listen to the average person over the internet. You have to calibrate the monitor or at least download the profile that was developed at notebookcheck. I have been using the previous generation XPS and it has a great monitor. Peple were just using the wrong settings! See a report at anandtech.
  13. I don't know if it is better than the juicedlink since it will depend on how much noisy the E-M5ii input is. I used the juicedlink with a low noise xlr mic and I got great results, and the mke-600 is better than what comes with XLR-K2M. But while it can probably offer better audio (at least when connected on the A7rii) I did not find it ergonomic. I found the mounting of juicedLink on the bottom of the camera kind of problematic for two reasons 1. I switch quickly from videos to photos. 2. It really obstracts my type of handheld shooting since with my left hand I change the focus and it comes from the bottom of the camera. In the end I mounted on the top with a hot shoe adapter and then the mic on the top, and that was not a great solution either... But for rigged cameras your solution with a proper recorder offers the best results. Also I believe the XLR-K2M does bypass the internal gain since you can only adjust the gain from the external unit.
  14. To get the best quality in both audio and video in a compact package with IBIS you can get an A7rII/A7sII with the XLR-K2M module that I believe bypasses any gain inside the camera, or you can try @Mark solution with the juicedlink and your EM5ii.
  15. Sam I would like to see some examples of this. Same lens on different cameras. If you have a link please post it. If you have your own tests even better. From what I have found on the web, nobody had done this test and only found people that used a mitakon 0.95 and found fringing on the moon. I am not saying that is not possible but just improbable for the camera to do this. So unless specific examples are posted I can only blame the lens and the user of it.
  16. I was being sarcastic . I am very happy with my A7rII as well. Its funny how people can complain about anything nowadays. I mean the only reason that the e mount cameras might have more ch.aberation (which I have not seen) is because it is the only large sensor mount that allows the use of so many adapted lenses (any lens really). So to expect the camera to correct all these lenses... of course with canon you probably will only use canon lenses so you will see less of if...
  17. Olympus probably does some internal processing so in not so quiet environments there is less hiss. Worth to test it out. Sorry I don't know how the a6300 performs...
  18. Yeah I have heard thay Sony's cams not only do not correct for it but also force it in the footage on purpose. I guess just to spite all the people that found out how they can get great colors from their Sony cams.
  19. Dont get me wrong i really like this product and was seriously considering it back when i was using the pocket. The problem was that it costed almost the same as the camera! And now this campaign shows why they priced that high, they are aiming wealthy hipsters. But I am sure other people can put it to a good use.
  20. Definitely. Unless the build in camera amp gain cannot be turned completely off that is.
  21. At $650 that would be the professional solution and in that case an external recorder like the H1 would also be advised
  22. For all sony shooters I would strongly suggest reading this manual about picture profiles: https://docs.sony.com/release/Help_C198100111.pdf With the FS5 you have the ability to change pretty much everything you need to get the color response the same as any other camera. For skin tones look at color phase and color depth settings and also expose for the skin.
