  1. Have you tried the Tiffen Ultra Contrast 3? Especially in day light / high contrast scenes, I get much better results than when trying to mess with the curve. It also reduces the aliasing a bit.
  2. Yep, 4:2:0 might indeed introduce some banding but for grading 10bit will be a much better improvement. Anyways, lets all agree that a 10bit 4:2:2 will offer a much better image to grade.
  3. No that is only output. No way they could do 4k raw with SDs. When run&gun that translates to running around with a backpack versus a case. Also nothing prohibits you from putting the FS5 on a shoulder rig.
  4. If you add the viewfinder to the URSA mini is an extra kg... The batteries for URSA mini are also quite heavier than the ones for FS5. BM describe the mini as a light-weight camera, but only because they compare it to the original URSA. FS5 looks like a really nice run&gun camera.
  5. There were two problems with SLOG2/SGAMMUT. First is limited space with 8 bits that can lead to banding and unattractive tonal gradations and the second was SGAMMUT that with its " twisted" colorspace required very fine color tuning. I am not that sure slog3 will help for the first problem but the sgammut3.cine will require less color manipulation and thus it might result in less problems. We will have to wait...
  6. s-gamut3.Cine will definitely make color grading easier. Here is a nice documentation by Sony: http://community.sony.com/sony/attachments/sony/large-sensor-camera-F5-F55/12359/2/TechnicalSummary_for_S-Gamut3Cine_S-Gamut3_S-Log3_V1_00.pdf
  7. plenty of 4k external recorders with no time limit. Atomos Shogun, Atomos Assassin, Convergent design Odyssey 7Q/+, Video devices PIX-E5/7...
  8. It matters when shooting log and grading.
  9. Hopefully they up the resolution in HD or UHD.
  10. Sony's plan cannot get any clearer: Get an A7rii for high res stills, then an A7sII for low light video, then an FS5/7 for actual work, and next year start all over again.
  11. They haven't released it yet.
  12. 1. No crop 4K 2. 2 stops better than A7rii (FF / S35 ?) 3. Rolling shutter same as A7rii (FF / S35 ?) 4. Overheating same as A7rii (FF / S35 ?) 5. color science same as A7rii (improved over A7s) other than slog3/sgamut3. 6. Assisted gamma. Something like lut. This is very nice when trying to set exposure and wb. 7. 1600 for slog3, 3200 for slog2 From : http://www.newsshooter.com/2015/09/11/ibc-2015-a-detailed-look-at-the-new-sony-a7s-ii-camera/
  13. Improving the rolling shutter from 32 to 8 msec is quite an achievement and if true I find hard to believe they forgot to advertise. Now the interviewer might be wrong, expressing his own beliefs or the translation bad, but here is another part from that article: "For the recording time is limited only by a possible overheating or the European 29 minutes limit"
  14. That makes sence. Had they improved roling shutter it would have been plastered all over. The A7rII will keep me warm for now Thanks for the input
  15. I dig its size. I wonder how it compares with the powered ones. http://www.rode.com/microphones/videomicro
  16. Tax? A7s/ii is a run&gun type of camera aimed at both enthusiasts and professionals, whereas Ursa mini is more the workhorse type that is only for professionals. Don't let the prices confuse you, because when you add all the necessary equipment, they will not end up not only in the same price range but also not even close in the weight/size scale. P.S. children idiots? Nice picture you have there
  17. If it has 8ms rolling shutter then that is not a flaw by any means. It is one of the best rolling shutters out there. That is definetly "advertisable". It would definetly work with me at least. Not in FF.
  18. QFHD: 3840 x 2160. Internal recording and HDMI output, both at 4K resolution, are available in full-frame I am not sure whether that means no S35 4K.
  19. Another important spec that has not received the attention that it deserves: "Gamma Assist Display: is a new function that allows users to monitor images or check focus when recording S-Log movies" That will help a lot for setting WB/exposure when shooting log.
  20. Sounds correct, unless there is a catch with the "full pixel readout". It will be interesting to see why Sony decided not to advertize one of the most important improvements if it is indeed 8.3ms also in FF 4K mode.
  21. You could consider BMPCC as consumer. But no other than that there is no cheap 10bit. Sony is capable of a camera like that and with the A7sii they have proved that they can really disrupt the market. My shocking reflects mostly my gear headed unreal expectations.
  22. Just you cause it doesn't
  23. The omission of 10bit in A7sii was "shocking" to me.
  24. I agree. A "developers" camera that is supported by ML would go really far.
