Well, there's actually nothing coming close to color rendition compared to Fuji in the consumer area. Even Canon is way worse in terms of color reproduction "from what I've seen". Let's not talk about the sharpening algorithm being using on the X-T2, which seems to be out of this world, much better than the GH5 which looks electronical. The GH5 seems somewhere between Canon and Sony while being closer to Canon. Dynamic range on the Fuji X-T2 should be a tad better using F-Log vs. V-log but not by 2 stops, especially not by regarding the comparison above from C5D. Coming back to the topic: The GH5 seems to show similar encoding artifacts as the GH4, even recording in 10 Bit internally. Only way to fix these is to record externally atm.

@jonpais Their next clips will be without any sharpening nor noisereduction!

5K RAW video on the Olympus E-M1 II usable for short clips!

Looks great. Nice detail, colors, no sharpening artifacts as the original codec shows. Wish the the files were longer though. -
That's one example. No sharpening nor noise reduction applied (-5 both). I never saw any GH5 footage without any sharpening applied in camera, lol. The only answer I got from these Panasonic marketing guys was like: "All the DOPs loved the sharpening"... WTF
-
Yeah, really loved what I've seen from you and your X-T2.

What I'm really concerned about is, that nothing I've seen from the GH5 looks nearly as organic as what I'm able to achieve with internal 8 Bit recorded V-Log using the GH4. I mean, it almost looks like a downgrade, really cleanic, oversharpened, processed. Is it really that hard to produce cinematic pictures using the GH5?

And here we go: More disappointing video-looking stuff with Like709 Gamma and/or lot's of sharpening and nr applied in camera... Ugh The owner of one of these videos has less than 50 subscribers, how did he get the camera?
-
Yeah, only put sharpening and noisereduction to -5. Leave contrast at 0 and put saturation down to -2 if there are much saturated objects. Actually I noticed exactly the same problem on a LX100. Really strange, I thought it was agressive temporal noise reduction which causes the trailing and didn't know other cameras like the G81/80/85 suffer from this as well. And I really hope the GH5 won't show this problem since it appeared on every Panasonic 4k camera after the GH4! Very sad actually. My GH4 only shows this starting from ISO2500 and above.

whoa. The worst thing actually here is the aliasing and even more sharpening which even pronounces it. Looks terrible, regardless of the color. Even my Samsung Galaxy S7 produces less harsh looking video. Did the Mavic have less sharpening applied with earlier firmwares?

After playing around with the RAW files out of the GH5 (http://www.imaging-resource.com/PROD...onic-gh5A7.HTM) I definitely want a switch for turning off any processing like noise reduction (at least luma) and sharpening! The results speak for themself. Video would look amazing until ISO 1600 with incredible detail and very fine grain. Even better than any Blackmagic URSA 4K footage (thanks to way better dynamic range and high ISO capabilities) The samples were processed using RAW Therapee (AMAZE Debayering, Chroma noise reduction starting from ISO 1600 and bicubic scaling to 4096px (DCI) width) to emulate the internal downsampling. Link to full samples in full quality (download and watch at 100% using a proper viewer like faststone): DROPBOX ISO400 (low quality on the forum)

Is this shot with sharpening turned down /off completely? Still see some hints of slight halos. BUT that looks way better in terms of detail reproduction than anything the GH5 seems to provide.
-
Starting from 12800 ISO the picture might be ok for downresized 1080p but too many noise reduction artifacts and mud for 4k distribution. ISO 12800 looks much better on the Sony FS5 (APS-C sensor) with an external raw recorder. ISO 6400 looks good on the a7S II though. ISO 3200 looks good on the GH5, that's just one stop less. ISO 5000 shows ghosting produced by the strong temporal noise reduction kicking in (unusable for me tbh)...
-
Huh? The X-T2 shows clearly much more detail, where the Olympus looks muddy while oversharpened with lot's of halos. The Fuji wins hands down.

Lovely colors! Really like what the Fuji XT2 does with it's color science. Just one question, is it possible to get more information in the highlights? They seem to blow out quite early.

New information regarding H.265 on the Panasonic GH5
deezid replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yh, I don't see it from the chart either. But it would be amazing indeed!! -
Exactly my thoughts. It's 30 Fps as well, it stutters.

Would like to know what you think about our newest work. Shot with the infamous Panasonic GH4, internal V-LOG 8bit, -5/-5 NR and sharpness. Used Panasonic lenses: 12-35mm 2.8, 20mm 1.7 and 42.5mm 1.7. Used a Tiffen Black Satin Filter to get rid of the sharpning artifacts still left over at -5 and add some smoothness to highlights and shadows. Budget: about 0$.
-
Cool, nice find! Looks amazing on my 4k screen (too much red in their skin, but great otherwise!!). There's no way that this isn't GH5 material.

Internal 8Bit, 4K DCI, V-LOG. For Black Joker above, some of the shots were done at ISO4000.
-
It's more like IBIS...?

Shot this on my GH4 in one night. Used some color foils on my cheap Yongnuo YN300 LEDs and my Panasonic 20mm 1.7 lens. Recording was done internally in 4K DCI VLOG 8 bit, so some artifacts are definitely there. Tried to create a dark, gritty but colorful look. Still in love with this small, little and reliable camera. Director, writor and main actor: Uche Aguh

Wait. 1.8 crop would be amazing tbh! Even the 5D MK4 isn't much better. :D
