That Sony does not show as discontinued on the Sony site I looked at. Closest would be the Canon ME20F SH but that is only full HD. It seems like it is fairly rugged though. Also the ME200S SH but that is super 35.

I should say I did sell that Minolta 85 on Ebay for multiple times what I purchased it for at a pawn shop so I liked it for THAT (it was ok optically but not much different optically to several other 85s I had.

I have no love for old Minolta MC/MD lenses. Nothing wrong with them really (I did not like the MC lens 85 I had in how it opened up after stopping down but workable) ok but nothing special to me, I still have an old MD 50 f2 but no adapter for it right now. The one Minolta MC lens I would love to try is that 24mm VFC with variable field control though rare and expensive. Mind you, if I found a cheap 35 tilt shift I would give it a go too. Minolta A mount lenses on the other hand are absolute bargains right now and if only the LA-EA# adapters were not such lumps I would still use some (I still have a 180 5.6 Sigma I also can not use right now). Are there any adapters yet for Sony A mount lenses on Canon/Nikon mirrorless cameras?

Well I am spoilt since getting the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 By far the best normal lens I have had (and I had a couple I really liked like the FD 50 1.2 L and Pentax 50 1.2 K) even the Nikon little 50 1.8 AF (non D made in Japan) was a great cheapy...lots of others (Canon EF AF and FD 1.8s, Sony APSC 50 OSS, about a dozen 50 1.7/1.8 and f2s from all sorts of makers), an ancient Biotar 58 f2 with 17 blades but I think the Zony is pretty special (LOCA can be an issue but not a problem for me so far). It is because of the Zony I probably will not get this lens at any price no matter how cheap (ok I would for under $100).

$200 Australian is about $150 US at the current exchange rate. If it gets put down to $100 or even $150 for its condition that will be a bargain. Since it is a charity, I wish they would put it on Ebay but they are not allowed to do it locally for some reason. I think even $300 is a great price for it (not that I would buy it for that). Will look at the serial number today hopefully for an 8## serial number! (must read up on it again, it has been a while).

Looking at Ebay for sold prices, it seems to range wildly for what people have actually paid (not what is asked for). $116 (Australian) for one for "spares and repair with haze" from the UK, $137.93 for one in good condition with a Fuji X adapter also from the UK (this one seems an absolute bargain), $141.61 working but some dust and not so smooth focus (UK), a $143.45 for one with fungus (UK again). User ones in ok condition generally seem to be around $200-$250 with the better ones seemingly in the $300-$400 dollar range. I would rate this charity store copy as a very good one. Since it has now sat unloved in the front window for several weeks, I think I will suggest they either send it to Sydney to go on Ebay, or reduce the price to $100 (and sell it to me...Not that i need another lens like this so probably not).

Thing is I do not want to out it on Ebay. I actually had it on Ebay about two years ago and would have taken around $800-900 but not a single bid. I will get nothing like $4000 selling it in a major camera store via commission (they take %20) but again, I will be happy to get enough for something i will use more often. That said, i really do love this old lens, I just do not think it is worth anything like what they sell for. It will be a couple of months before I take it to sell though so will use it for a little while yet. Who knows, I might even change my mind (though any sale over $2000 I would till be nuts to keep it).

You should see the Japanese prices...plenty of mint in box ones for over eleven grand (Australian)!

Not so far though not used the little Nikon for portraits yet (other than quickly deleted selfies just to check). Turns out the cloud went away here and those who braved the cold after 9pm got a great view of the super moon and eclipse. I just wish my little RX100iv had a slightly longer lens as it is also a great portrait camera and the eye AF is very good (still have to hold down a button on this model in continuous mode).

Too much cloud here last night so I just went for a quick look (could not see the moon) and gave up. I have found i like superzoom cameras now. I already had my late Dad's Fuji but picked up a Nikon P530 for very little... Only HD video and no RAW photos and no manual focus but geez I like it. I have come to realise that while they might not be all that great at photographing distant things compared to an ILC with appropriate lens, for closer in (and especially in their built in flash ranges, they can make wonderful portrait setups and probably be ok for people video in a non moving setting (if you have enough light). I think i now really want a RX10iv or preferably, the NEXT Sony RX10 model.

I think it is because there are so many EF mount lenses. Sony E mount lenses are being adapted with auto focus to Nikon Z cameras now (R might come but harder to do with such a short difference in the flange distance.

I am taking my FD 24 1.4 L to Sydney to a major camera store for them to sell on consignment... I will not get anywhere near th $4000 minimum they seem to go for on Ebay but I expect to get enough for a decent portrait lens or a decent (older) FF camera or even a Sony Rx10 iv.

I think what is keeping micro four thirds alive (for now) is the still quite large group of aging photographers that down size. The people that love taking photos and have done in some cases for decades but who now think some of their previous gear is too heavy. Some of these just move to 1 inch sensor camera compacts but many do go to M43. That group will come to an end for the most part but still has a few years to move through the cycle (buy their first gear, buy better gear ....often heavier, take their heavier stuff less often, look for an alternative, roll over and die). I am one of them (though I did try M43), I can still manage FF and a 300 2.8 but a lot less often than previously. I have a couple of small sensor super zoom cameras and a 1 inch camera now added. I would not mind a GH5s at some point when cheap enough (this new camera might speed that point up at least). I think they need aim just about any new M43 camera at stills photographers even if best used for video.

Grab an old pro film video camera from Canon or whoever and take that along with you...Then use whatever camera you like (just got a couple of decent looking old Canon cameras in at the op shop i volunteer at...they are pretty much worthless but most will not know that).

Which coat pocket do you keep your Alexa in? As long as there is ENOUGH DR for the job does it really matter? I just looked at the A7siii test they did and it is not too bad at lower ISOs but they got 12 usable stops of DR at ISO 16000!

That really stinks Andrew! Hope Ebay makes it right. Ebay USED to be a great place to buy and sell. Mind you my very first purchase decades ago was a scam (a dinky little fraction of a MP camera for $100 that never existed)...I never did hear from Ebay or the police after that beyond a couple of emails! Since then, no issues until recently...No problems selling camera gear when i needed to. Recently though I had an issue as a buyer ....AFTER I paid and I had RECIEVED feedback from them, the seller decided the item was no longer available....said they would refund but also said they were sick.... I ended up getting the money back but it took a while and I believe they just sold it to someone else for more money and while not a huge value, being perpetually broke these days, I could not buy elsewhere until I had the money back....I really wanted to just leave very cranky feedback but getting the refund stopped that. Nah, I am done with Ebay for high values things as a buyer and everything as a seller.

This is simply crazy! I just looked again and all the 24 f2s are listed at or over $1000 Australian and many for a lot more. One glimmer of hope is if you look up sold items, while there are lots of f2s above (and some well above) $1000, there are some for lower and even the odd few around $500-$600. Ones that have auctions rather than BIN seem to go about $800 or so Japan seems to have some of the cheaper ones (along with the dearer ones). The 24 2.8s are much better still but then there are zillions of similar lenses including better newer ones. I think I might take my 1.4 to a camera shop in Sydney/Brisbane/Melbourne next time I go to one of them and see if I can trade it for a gold Leica (ok maybe just something interesting.

Not really. Flares are not something I use really. If I thin about something, I will see what it is like (otherwise I might just try a torch in front of it for both photos and video.
