Don't forget Aputure's great FineHD monitors, one of which will probably be my next purchase.

Tell me about it. I'm drowning in unused lenses. The other factor is that for video, I've finally realized that it's best to have a matched set of lenses in all the major focal lengths, rather than the hodgepodge of different brands and focal lengths knocking around my closet right now.

Not really, but the SLR Magic definitely is. http://3dkraft.de/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=137&catid=40&Itemid=2 And not just because I have one in mint condition for sale...

SLR Magic 25mm t/0.95 by far. On both my GH3 and BMPCC. Once again, it's amazing how similar you and I are. Just the other day, I was going through my lenses trying to pare it down to 4-5 regulars. Now that I'm investing more in lights and sound, the extra revenue should really help soften the blow.

Even accepting your point, I could get a Kinemini 4K package AND a used 1DC for the same price as this Leica and a Ninja Assassin.

The title wasn't referring to stills. It was 100% about video.

Less than an A7R II? Good luck.

I'd rather pick up a Terra 5K package.
-
That said, I already use BP-U60s in my BMPCC rig, so I would probably stick with those.

I recently did a shoot with a rented RED Epic Dragon. The package came with 5 V-Lock batteries and a dual charger. When we shot indoors, we simply kept 2 batteries on the charger at all times and swapped out as needed. At our outdoor locations, we made sure everything was charged beforehand and powered through the day, or had our DIT holed up at a coffee shop with a power strip and the charger and ran a PA over every now and then to grab the charged bricks. I assume you'd use a similar style with the Terra, except that you could probably get by with 3 and change out less often due to the lower power draw.

Other Thoughts from NAB 2016 - UPDATED!

Please let us know the results of that P180E vs 120T test. Because if it lives up to its claims...120w, 1.5k, focusable, and less expensive than their existing Lightstorm panels? Shut up and take my money! -
The LS300 feels like the exact opposite of a BMCC: a Swiss army knife with all kinds of useful features and respectable IQ, as opposed to a sensor in a box that serves one very specific function but produces amazing IQ.

It feels like this was the year of useful tools > sexy toys. I can see why that could feel disappointing or boring, but personally I like it. New lights, lenses, rigs, microphones, software, monitors, and recorders are far more interesting than cameras, for which we have more then enough great options (imo).

Thanks so much for all this info, Jones. Really great stuff. Anything that particularly stands out in terms of affordable LED fresnels? Or new LEDs in general? Sounds like the Aputure stuff is pretty rad for the price, but the rest is harder to sort through. -
Love hearing which m4/3 have larger then expected image circles. Keep the reports coming!

Does anyone here use Fly/Glidecams anymore?
TheRenaissanceMan replied to BrorSvensson's topic in Cameras
I would be very curious to hear a comparison between the HD1000 and CAME H4. I've also seen people recommend the Blackbird. This seems like a great higher-end option, if pricey. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1148838&gclid=Cj0KEQjwrte4BRD-oYi3y5_AhZ4BEiQAzIFxn7g7PmBoDDk61YraecWxg5c2_L9UTisaOo8K7RLMU2saAla48P8HAQ&is=REG&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C52934714882%2C&Q=&A=details I'm trying really hard to decide between one of these and a Beholder DS1 ($600). Any insight from you more experienced flyers would be much appreciated. -
I missed that it has zero sound without the XLR module. That's freaking lame. Now I have to buy this overblown sound recorder just to have a scratch track?

Yikes, man. I think you're missing the point. The only machines--THE ONLY ONES--that lack ProRes support are Windows 10. How much of the industry do you imagine has gone to Windows 10? No, I do not have hard numbers in front of me (can't imagine how you interpret a percentage with "like" in front of it as "with great confidence"), but my educated guess would be very few. Yet the number of cameras with ProRes is growing, and the insanely popular Arri Alexa is widely used in part because of its fantastic ProRes workflow. I'm not sure where you work regionally, but it seems to me that ProRes is widespread and here to stay.
