  1. Except on Apple machines, which like 70% of the industry uses, and Windows 7, which accounts for another 29%.
  2. Lol what? Last I heard, ProRes is still the industry standard and a big reason the Alexa workflow is so popular.
  3. I used to moderate a huge blogging/vlogging website, and I never saw a single person complain about focus hunting. Ever. The video quality bar just isn't high enough for it to matter. It's all about the content, and fans don't give a flying fuck about the rest. Tugela is right on with size and weight, too. The better producers might use something chunkier on sticks, but many are more than happy with a Canon S120 or some such held at arm's length. Maybe one of the newer high end p+s cams with a selfie screen. I can see the much higher end guys liking it for the skin tones and maybe the AF, but those guys tend to shoot locked down and employ a cameraman when they're not. Also...the NX1 has damn good continuous AF already. Canon's advantage remains its brand recognition, ecosystem, and sheer ubiquity; that'll carry this camera to success more than any special AF. And if that's really what consumers want, they'd rather buy 70D's on the cheap from Costco and EBay.
  4. Seems pretty cool, although you really don't need an audio module in a "cinema" setup. Cinema shoots use external sound-- even low-budget student projects like mine. That said, nice to have the option for doc/run and gun shooters.
  5. Or waveforms...or false color...or vector scopes... To compete at this price point, BM needs to step up their monitoring features. Otherwise, it's exactly what I hoped they'd make. The audio inputs are particularly exciting for me, both to augment the poor audio of BM cams and for making Let's Plays without having to sync the commentary later. Anyone know if they're still using a TN panel in this? Or have they stepped up to IPS for this one?
  6. You lost me. How do made up specs "bring noise to" a totally unrelated camera?
  7. No evidence of 6K in any of those cameras, or a 10-bit internal codec. And one shouldn't make confident declarations about upcoming products when they're just speculating.
  8. They claim a resolution of 4096x2160, which is wider than the BMPC's 4000/2160. My guess (and hope) is that it's a different sensor. Overall, the camera looks pretty fucking sweet. Fun to have an American camera company in this market. I wonder how the price shakes out once you add recording, LCD, and grip modules.
  9. And the motion, and the tonality. Not a perfect video, but the hallmarks of the D16 image are unmistakable.
  10. Scarlet I get, but what do Dragons have to do with the color red?
  11. And it's not just m43 lenses. There are c- mounts that cover s35, Canon FD, Minolta MC, etc. A short flange distance just gives you more options. Really I'd be thrilled if these EF cameras managed to license the EF-M mount instead.
  12. Well...huh. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the entire appeal of the 3-axis gimbal, then. Maybe a pros and cons list would help. Pros: -Smaller and lighter -Inverted mode for low-angle shots -Can be used on the end of a monopod for faux-crane/jib shots Cons: -Require batteries -Electronic, so more likely to fail completely if a component malfunctions -More expensive -Lower weight limit Is that the gist of it?
  13. But they're not asking for the $500 now...they're saying "if you're interested in being first in line, have $500 ready for the day of the official announcement." Critical reading skills, people.
  14. I don't think the goal was to impress. Just to let people interested in the company know enough to be ready for the actual announcement.
  15. I was talking about the company. And maybe wait for an actual press release before shitting all over a camera you know nothing about it. Keep in mind, this is an email sent to their mailing list, not a general announcement.
  16. That large, boring market, like entry-level DSLRs for stills, drives the market. Best not to write it off, because it affects all of us.
  17. That's a little premature, considering we're only 1/3 of the way into the year. The Terra is dope, though. You mean like Digital Bolex, who launched a very successful $3000 camera with no experience and no brand recognition?
  18. That read perfectly clear to me. Maybe give it another look?
  19. Seems cool if you need a workhorse servo zoom for your C100(ii)/C300(ii), but probably not of interest to a lot of us.
  20. $3500 with High Speed, 4K, SDI, and Wi-Fi control. Plus you need SSDs, monitoring, and sound. Still, hell of a deal considering its capabilities.
  21. SLR Magic, please! See if you can pin them down on a release date for the rest of their PL APO prime set.
  22. They actually can-- just not easily. A lens tech can convert the mount with infinity focus for $150 per lens. It adds expense (sometimes more than the lenses themselves are worth) but gives them vastly better compatibility. I find the Nikkors sterile, but that's a personal taste thing. Another point to keep in mind is that Nikkors focus "backwards" compared to every other manufacturer, so that's something you'll have to get used to. Otherwise, they're widely available, competitively priced, and compatible with everything.
  23. So does every movie. Not all of them look that good.
  24. Have you looked at the Voigtlander SLII series lenses for Nikon mount? They resolve great on the NX1 sensor wide open, so they can handle anything. Nice rendering, all metal, and definitely look the part. The only problem is that they don't come in the focal lengths you want: 20mm 3.5, 28mm 2.8, 40mm f/2, 58mm 1.4, 90mm f/2. They're a little more than you wanted to spend per lens, but should last for a long, long time. Otherwise, if you're only using them on mirrorless, Minolta MD lenses are your best bet. Cheap, excellent optics, and pair great with the Fuji body/sensor.
