  1. Yep, actually that rolling shutter is the only that it's making me hesitate between the GH4 and the sony A7s, and now with the canon price drop I think I should be patient and wait to see what they are going to do. Well right now I guess I am just going to wait and see...
  2. Wow, I actually am very excited, I'm sure like many other people here, we didn't buy this cameras because of all the problems, but now BM seem to be going to the right direction, something they should've done a long time ago though. Anyway better late than never, I just hope the other updates are going to arrive soon. Now I might just reconsider buying a BM camera :)
  3. Thanks Andrew for the info, its good to know before buying any of this cameras. ;)
  4. First look: And some 4k footage: Looks interesting. ;)
  5. Yes of course you are right but, still you don't really use this camera without having some sort of rig to make it useable in most situations, I am just saying that people shouldn't really consider buying this camera (bmpcc) because they think they can just use it with a lens on run and go situations or anny other situation, because it has to many problems for that kind of job (low battery life, etc...). When you are buying this camera you are buying a sensor (a good one) and then you built everything else from it, that's how is see this camera, I don't see it as a pocket camera. And this is pretty much the same case with the other two blackmagic cameras (BMCC and BMCC 4k). So I think this is something to know and consider before buying this camera. Cheers.
  6. Before buying a bmpcc, I hope that you are aware of all the problems you can encounter with it : Very bad Battery Life No in-camera formatting Can’t delete files on camera No “remaining time†warning Limited WB settings Poor Screen viewing Small size sensor (Super 16mm) Many of this problems can be dealt with but in the end the size factor won't really be an advantage because you will have to build a rig around the camera. But this camera delivers a beautiful image that's a fact! Wether you love it or hate it! You are the judge. :)
  7. Amazing, I hope he is going to get a 5D III but I would also be very happy to see what he can do with a GH4! ;) Thanks for the post!
  8. Wow that's very expensive indeed, there is no way to import it? Or is it still going to be expensive? If I was you I would go for the sigma one because of it's optically better than canon, Sigma is doing an amazing job now, the build quality is very good, as good as canon L lenses some coud say, but probably not as strong as a 24-70mm L lens from canon which is a beast! I would tell you that sigma is the way to go now ;)
  9. This topic is really pointless, of course you haven't seen any amazing footage (even if there is...) because the camera just came out a few months ago people are still working around it and learning about it, 5D mark III and mark II have being around for quite some time now, so it's obvious the footage is going to seem better... Of course content is King but having more pixels helps... Just wait for Phil Bloom review and you will see what he can do with a GH4 and you will understand that it is not the camera but the guy behind it that is important.
  10. Yep, JohnBarlow is right I doesn't seem to be well balanced, that's most certainly the problem.
  11. Thanks for the review, good as always! The GH4 is truly an amazing camera, it will certainly help improve your production! Very excited about the announcement for a new GH4 adapter that will make it almost full frame!!!
  12. Well I guess we can keep dreaming... And yes Canon is starting to loose the big influence they used to have, anyway I am sure they are going to do something soon that will bring them back to the game.
  13. Well if you are doing portraits 50mm and 85mm should be good, unless you are trying to achieve a special effect like deform a little bit the face then you should go with wider lenses.
  14. I think a zoom lens would be better for you, specially if you are shooting a documentary type of video and if you are alone. A zoom lens will give you more versatility for your shots (wide => telephoto) , primes are more for a controlled situation.
  15. Well first thing, you can say is that all the technical stuff is in the end always in service of the story you are trying to tell, if you use a slow motion just because it looks "cool" well that's just a limited use of a tool that may have a deeper meaning in your movie for example. Or why to choose a 50mm over a 24mm lens to film a certain scene. Why to shoot handheld or with a steady-cam => it will eventually influence your story and sometimes not what you wanted. So make sure that the decisions you take regarding the technical part will always be because because your are trying to express something precise and that the technique part translates into the story telling. I hope I made my self clear. You probably already knew that, but it's always good to repeat it :)
  16. Odie => Where did you got the info about the cameras used for the films in competition?
  17. by a little known director by the name of Godard => you are kidding right?
  18. Ok thank you, I will be definitely checking this out. ;)
  19. How are the Leica R lenses are they good for video, would you recommend them? I just watched a video with the GH4 and it looks amazing :)
  20. Wow it looks amazing, but I can't find anywhere at my local movie theater. Where did you watch it?
  21. I just think choosing a GH4 over a sony A7s, or the other way around will depend on your personal needs for the kind of work you do. You just have to compare the features on both cameras, if you shoot a lot of low light scenes well you will obviously consider the A7s over the GH4. But then again it's up to you. :)
  22. jurgen => thanks for the advice ;) And yes trust me I am very aware of that, it's not the camera but the guy behind the camera that makes it good. Its just that I really want the best thing possible for my money, that's all. I mean if i have the money, why not? And when I say I am new in the DSLR world is just that I don't personally own one but I use them very often for filmmaking but my knowledge is very limited I only know the 5D mark III and the 60D and some canon still lenses, I wanted to have a good advice on from people with more experience on what to buy, and I am glad because I have a very different perspective now. :) I just feel that the GH4 is a game changer, plus it's not really expensive considering the specs and it has many features that no other camera in this price range has.
  23. Thanks for all the answers :) richg101 => would you have a video sample to see the 'cine' look you are talking about? I also heard the Yashica lenses are really great for video they where made in the same factory than the zeiss lenses. Would you recommend them? I am planning on buying the GH4 but the only thing that is keeping me for buying it, is the crop factor, and getting a shallow depth of field is harder and it needs faster lenses like the 25/0.95 from Voigtlander which costs 1100 euros. So I am not really sure what to buy.
  24. Thanks for all the comments :) I have actually been working with other peoples cameras and lenses, not worrying to much about technical stuff, I have always been more of a storyteller, focusing on writing a script and directing actors. But I do want my own equipment, and increase my knowledge on cinematography which, I think, every aspiring film maker should do, because he can use it to better tell a story, obviously cinematography is at the service of the story. So that's why I want something versatile and capable of doing many things like the GH4. andy lee => I will definitely take a look a those lenses. would you know a good place to buy them?
