Lighting Kit for Photo/Video studio. Advise Needed.
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Aaron, do you think a 120 would work in a parabolic set up similar to this? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/866281-REG/Impact_up_7s_7_0_Parabolic_Umbrella_Silver.html -
Lighting Kit for Photo/Video studio. Advise Needed.
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Thank you cinegain. Pretty everything in your response was on point with what I had been thinking. I love Aputure's stuff. I also was leaning toward parabolic umbrellas as well. Question: so obviously the Broncolor stuff would eat up my budget pretty quickly. There are other parabolic umbrellas out there like Wescott and Impact, but you still need a light source. What I'd absolutely love is if the Aputure 120's could work as the light source for the parabolic umbrella. If you remove the can on the 120, is the throw wide enough to do the job? Also, is there a taking mechanism on the the 120 that can receive the rod from the umbrella? In other words, how would you mount the 2 together, particularly to slide the umbrella closer or further for the desired effect. -
Music License resources (other than The Music Bed)
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
To those who are voicing the starving artist angle, the above is again symptomatic of Music Bed's problem. When they first started, I'd call or email them if I had a question, they'd respond right away with a simple and straightforward answer. Once I needed a license for a monetized video. Their response, "eh, just add $50." Wow, that was easy and super reasonable. But now, anything remotely custom and they want to investigate you and your client and everything you are going to be doing and spending on your campaign in order to squeeze out every last cent they can from you. No straightforward answers. It sucks. They began their service with the intent to help out filmmakers. It doesn't feel that way anymore, in fact, it feels like they are trying to screw us. -
Just came across this article. Amazing. And amazing opportunity for a filmmaker. I bet there are a zillion stories just like this. Anyone interested in making a film? There is an audience for sure. I'd pay to see it. http://www.nationalreview.com/article/442515/fidel-castro-brutal-dictatorship-armando-valladeres-cuban-dissidents-tortured?utm_source=nr&utm_medium=facebook%3Futm_content%3Dhabeeb%3Futm_campaign%3Dtorture

Music License resources (other than The Music Bed)
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
So you're right, $200-$300 a track is not really that bad. But let's face it, I bet we all have clients who are spending further out of pocket for video in the first place than they can really afford. Add to that a few extra hundo for music and it's too much for them. But this isn't really even the issue. What if your client was hoping to launch a radio campaign? See if you can even get a straight answer from The Music Bed. What about a burgeoning filmmaker who wants to sell his DVD? The Music Bed will tell him to bend over. I literally had a Music Bed rep tell me in person that they wanted 10-20% of my revenue... for each track used. Now that's worthy of an "lol". -
Hey guys, would love your help. Thanks in advance. I've been asked to put together a lighting kit for a client that is building a photo/video studio for their company. We are going to go with continuous lighting for this kit. We'll also use strobes at times, but let's leave that out of the equation for now and pretend we'll only be using continuous lighting. We'd like to put together a kit that is as flexible as possible (meaning we can use it for many different applications), though most of our shoots will be a model or two in front of a backdrop (white, gray, textured, etc). Sometimes these shoots will be video centric with photography as an afterthought, and sometimes vice versa. I totally understand that lighting style or mood or dramatic effect can vary drastically with each photographer, filmmaker, and shoot. But with that said, if you were in my shoes, which lights and accessories would you gravitate towards? Additionally, I lean toward LED's. I am not totally opposed to other options, but due to heat, power consumption, and longevity I do like LED's. Budget is at least $5,000.

Are we talking camera body only? For the $5K-$10K UM46 easy. It starts at $5K but needs a bunch more, but still, best camera out there right now in price range easy.

My first experience with a Red. (Guest appearance by Beyonce!)
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
I directed and edited. DP was a friend, Sergio Ulloa. You're definitely right. I edited to the watermarked version, and I suspect that when I changed that out last minute it is a few db louder. Audio needs mixing for sure. Horses for courses I guess. One thing for sure is the noise on MX is no joke. Lift it slightly and it's a snowstorm. -
So far my biggest challenge is color. Skin tones are quick to turn into tanning salon look. I have heard Dragon and Weapon are better, this was with MX. Noise everywhere. Got to be honest, I'm not impressed with the MX image. I wouldn't pay for it again, wouldn't buy an MX camera. I love resolution though. This is why I'm leaning toward the UM46. I think one thing that Red nails is the resolution/detail. To me it's perfect. Doesn't have that digital sharp look. Anyway, any thoughts would be welcomed. #LoveWins #WeTrumpHate

Oh man. This has fixed the number 1 flaw of the original X5R, offloading. So happy. I was waiting for this one. Didn't expect it so soon. Is the RAW camera mechanical shutter? Where did it say that? That would be awesome.

You guys have a wonderful evening. Love you all!

Do you lock your doors at night? Do you or any sensible person you know live in a gated community? I think you are missing the point of the quote. The point is that he speaks in terms of ideas, not details. You're taking him too literally again.

My internet is so slow that your comment beat my edited in smiley face. Look, we get it. You hate Trump. I like him. You think he's a racist. I don't. What should we do now? Love you man. -

Wow, what kind of racist stereotypical sexually oriented statement is this? And for what it's worth, I'm not white. I'm German American. -

Fuzzy, thanks for that level headed response. I've always considered you a friend and I don't want to make an enemy here. I have/am attempting to be a peacemaker. I just read this quote from another thread, and for me it's perfect. If you don't understand this, you'll never get Trump. The other thing that I think needs to accompany this is that Trump doesn't talk like a Politician, and I find it absolutely refreshing. I can only speak for myself, but I HATE listening to politicians. I would guess most here hate Trump's talk more, but not me. For some reason I kinda get him. He reminds me of my dad, who will say awkward things sometimes, but came from a poverty stricken childhood, worked hard, and is currently a millionaire (but wasn't while I was in the household, darn :)). He means only good and is super generous. But his way of talking can rub people wrong sometimes. Also, Trump is not afraid to call the kettle black. Here is another quote. Lastly, believe it or not, I think there was some method to his madness. In an interview about a year ago, Trump hinted that his way of talking would smooth out if he won. I guess we'll see. I completely get why you and others don't like what Trump says. I'd prefer he phrase things differently too. But I get him, or at least I think I do. Or at least I'm cautiously optimistic. -
Best quote about Trump I have heard so far. Thanks for sharing. I am going to share on my Facebook feed as well.

Agreed! And this is why posting an opinion louder and louder is pointless (not you Mercer, just in general). -

Finally, for one friggin once, I can agree with you Ed. The current "Media Party", as I like to call it, is the most corrupt, hateful, bigoted, racist, greedy, dirty political machine of all time. THEY are the reason we are so divided. And if anyone is not ready to accept that, just ask this one very simple question, "Do they profit more from a united USA, or a divided USA?" Getting us to hate each other makes them loads of money, and it's super easy for them to do. Look, fighting the media would be a worthy cause that anyone could get behind. Ed, even I would stand next to you in that fight, side by side. I know right? In fact, I was just going to post something just like this myself. BUT.... you are going to have to lose the "let's left wingers do this for the causes of the left" mentality. We can't talk policy yet. Here's the thing, NOBODY likes the media. Are you getting that? Would you rather have half the population on your side, or ALL OF IT? And see, once we were successful, once we deadened the media power and finally get a break from the hateful sewage that they spew, we might finally get a chance... to actually listen to each other. No one is saying we have to bend our morals. That would be corrupt. What I'm saying is that if the two halves could actually speak, without the media getting us emotionally charged, we may find there was middle ground we didn't even know we had, that both sides could acceptably and peacefully live with. If that's something you were interested in, call me your brother in arms. I'm in! -
I'm just sorry this politics stuff is so divisive. I'm 100% sure that if myself and those here who are lefty's got to hang out or work together we'd be best buds. We're a good hearted passionate bunch. I know this is no consolation at all, but I'm certain that if the tables were turned I'd be frustrated too. And, again no consolation, but if you happen to be in San Diego, reach out and let's do some brew on me.

BH, in the specs tab, has shooting formats with 12 bit raw, no mention of external recorder. I assume it'll need a recorder, but can anyone confirm this? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1295217-REG/sony_pxw_fs7_ii_xdcam_super.html

Anyone near Disneyland with a C fast reader right now?
Jonesy Jones replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Thanks everyone for your help, though I never found a reader... even in LA. Just goes to show how this CFast tech is in it's infancy. Forget a CFast reader and you're screwed, unless your shooting in NYC. I ended up just being really conservative with the cards I had and was fine. 20 minutes before the end of the day a girl comes up to me and says "I have that same camera." Me, "You wouldn't have a reader would you?" Her, "Yah, it's in my trunk."
