  1. I thought we all agreed none of us have any idea what we are talking about? Who here makes cameras or even has made any camera part or accessory for sale? My day job is i am in dental school. ?? Good looking images is only half of what i look for in a camera. I also look for if the camera will save me time or cost me time with its ergonomics and balance and reliability in the field. The amount of sweat that pours down my face when a camera is not booting up. Thats a burned in image.
  2. The inspire x5 is a work of art that probably matches the optics of a gh4. Each company .... Ikonoscope....digital bolex....and anton have failed for different reasons. Its not an easy gig. But upstarts like metabones and dji and freefly have not. They are soaring. Is blackmagic soaring? Are sales good? I still in my gut dont think so.
  3. I think we can all agree none of us know the cost and time it takes to make a camera. You are right John, I shouldn't poo-poo this innovative camera that gives raw and pro res - no one else has done it at the price point they do it as except for DJI I apologize for this thread. But still, the Ursa Mini is built pretty cheaply. As well as the Digital Bolex. To me, the most exciting upstart is DJI with the Inspire one. They went from the phantom which is fairly cheaply-built to an incredibly beautiful and powerful. I have no clue how DJI is doing it, and no company is the same. But I guess to be positive now - what is DJI's secret? What do they have that allows them to put out a beautiful drone for so cheap?

I think his name is Ebrahim Ebrahim Saadawi - oh nice, he bought a ps4 with these guys stolen money - what a great guy! how's the notification of his actions on the other forums?
  5. For what I have read on these boards and others, BM's weakness is indeed quality control as well as customer service and repairs. Because of this, they should have much better global support. I can't imagine them making much money on their cameras, especially since they aren't making them in bulk like Canon or Sony. I know the images out of them are incredible - but I wouldn't own a camera that I would bring on a shoot and not be confident that it won't break, especially if I'm in a place that's far away. When the Red One first came out, same thing - people would have to have two of them in case one broke. You buy 2 Ursa Minis and you are at the cost of one fs7 or now c300 ii
  6. The LCD touch screen was broken. The camera feels like it was thrown together last second. This was the display model camera. At b and h. Not a good sign. Does anyone else have that feeling that this will be their last camera and they will leave the camera business? I just cant see them selling many of these.
  7. Steven soderbergh gave an amazing lecture on this. That the film industry no longer has execs who care about making a good product.
  8. This is a great thread. Cinema changed in the 90s. The era of international box office. Tentpoles. Then the marvel franchise. The dumbing down of films for the sake of larger global transcultural appeal. And it works. People watch the latest superman reboot again and again. The only major studio that took risks....pixar....now has become a merchandise company thanks to disney buying it. Vote w your wallets. Say no to tent pole!
  9. Cant wait to play them in kickball

    Life vs Film

I don't know. The Master was a masterpiece. Synecdoche, New York was a masterpiece. Elephant is a masterpiece. Last Days is a new era in filmmaking, continuing Bela Tar's experimental and beautiful style - pushing the boundaries of motion pictures, as is Elephant both in structure and shooting style. Both films are disturbing and controversial. There are a lot of risky US films being made. A lot of great American directors. The biggest issue is there is no national endowment for the arts in America. Its a grant system, and it doesn't give as much money overall. Great films almost never even break even, so it's really a passion project for the investors. Of course, great films are incredibly important pieces of art for culture. But, hey, America's government system is a little screwed up right now. They can't even get money to feed our poorest population. 5 million Americans I just saw in the Intercept make less than $2 a day. Thank you Welfare Reform law of 94.

ES is right, again. As long as it does not hit his real world, the internet world is just fantasy. His name also isn't really ES.

I watch nonAmerican movies. I also watch great American ones. Like Elephant by Gus Van Sant or Erasehead by David Lynch or Cassevetes or Orson Welles. Don't hate on US cinema. We gave the world Citizen Kane. And movies do end and the have structure - beginning, middle, and end. I don't need a happy ending. I just wish life had some more structure. It's so open ended. There is no end. Death is just random. It just happ

No they don't. The film ends. It has structure. 128 minutes running time. And then that's it. We have no running time.

    Life vs Film

The biggest issue with life is that there is no structures, no resolution, no ending. There is no order. It's a mass of complete randomness, where being good or bad does not matter. Some times you get caught, some times you don't. Just an endless mess, floating in space, a turtle's hallucination. Vs film - a good film - it takes you on an emotional complex journey - a window into characters that are interconnected and with emotions and ideas that matter. It all matters in there. A good film can be better than life itself, just like a good book, a good video game - an experience that elevates you to another place. With the scam chapter on this camera nerd site not closed - it will never be closed. It will continue forever. There will never be a resolution. The scam artist will not learn his lesson and become a good human being. Life is strangly unwritten and messy and frustrating and we're all just floating around in it. Never to know what we should have done better.
  16. 1. Hire a private investigator 2. Hire a muscle to get your money back 3. Write it off 4. Set up a go fund me 5. Find the list again of his friends....have us all instagram them at the same time 6. Do nothing and instead take it as a life lesson 7. Go to egypt yourself and have a meeting. He gave you his address.
  17. Ha I didn't wire him anything I was just seeing how much ES thought he was smarter than everyone and the extent of lack of morality. For a second I did think he was a confused lost soul who wanted friendship from me, but even then I doubted it. He's just another young kid who's read too much Dostoyevsky and thinks he's smarter than everyone else.

PayPal ___________ So this scam is stupid because the money doesn't go into her account. Also I typed the subject line into google, and 4 other people had the same email - via rolexes, etc. The poor scam artist could have at least modified a few words! The better scam I almost got hit on years ago is on a macbook pro I sold - he sent the paypal, and he gave an address. fedex noticed that address was an abandoned area of town, and the only reason I got the laptop back is that he was at lunch when he was supposed to be there to grab the computer. So they steal the computer, then they report to paypal they never got the computer and then , they have the computer for free. ___ The above guy was lazy. Anyway, in the internet age, there aren't burgulars anymore or pickpockets - there are online scammers. Imagine if someone came to your house and stole $1500 from your place. you would freak out. how is this different? I don't want to reference anything that went down on this forum, but this got me thinking because the person who did the fraud said he would refund money but he hasn't and he probably won't because he's involved in many, many camera scams. He probably has at least 10 going at all times. He probably also has some hook up in the USA and preys on people like my wife - with his knowledge of cameras too, he can be a pretty convincing buyer. Anyway, the internet sucks. People scam people on it a lot. Because there is no face to face communication. A person doesn't know what it feels like to get robbed of $1500 online because they never see that person. No one knows how it all feels. Anyway I really wish Andrew Reid would jump into this. i feel like we all have PTSD from the event. I know I probably encouraged some of it. But I still feel horrible especially now that I know that one of the scam victims still hasn't gotten his money back.
  19. Yes, shotonwhat is just some guy in his underpants updating it all. I think he gave up at some point. I mean Star Wars Rougue One, the Reverent, San Andreas, the Avengers, it's an endless list of films that shoot on the alexa.
  20. also for every movie shot on the red, 99 were shot on the alexa. It's almost endless how many movies are being shot on the Alexa.
  21. I know a lot of DPs who own a mini and have already paid it off. They just don't brag about it. Reduser regulars except for my friend Nick are their own brand of "interesting" folks. Nearly everyone in the LA and NYC commercial scene own or use the Alexa almost exclusively. I don't know many DPs who would chose to rent a red over an alexa mini. Before, red dragon was going strong because it was small and lightweight. that all changed with the Amira and then definitely with the mini. Red is pretty much, in my mind, over. Unless Mr Jinnard really does introduce "the next big thing" - which I doubt. C300ii definitely looks interesting at its price. Red was really attractive to producers 5 years ago. Now, all they want is the Alexa. But you can easily convince a producer to use your camera if you show them the work you do on it and can explain to them why it's a better choice for the project. If the producer doesn't listen to you, they aren't being a smart producer.
  22. skintones are weird and plasticy with the red dragon. I have only used it about 4 times. But after that, I don't really care for it. Kind of beige looking. At the price range, I think pretty much everyone has switched to shooting on the Alexa mini. I think a working dragon package is about 30k or so. A working Alexa mini package is $36k. So I guess, you know, what's the reason then to go with a camera that doesn't look as nice and has more noise? here's some test charts so you compare the look of it with the alexa, etc etc: http://cinematography.net/edited-pages/cml-uwe-2015.html
  23. good stuff. I think if this blog wants to survive, and probably Andrew is tired of it (I would be too) - it should transition into talking about lenses, lighting, camera movement technology. I think as of now we are seeing a peak of what is possible with CMOS camera technology. All newer innovations to me as minor. But lighting and camera control tech continues to innovate, get cheaper, and get more beautiful. But like I said, I'm sure running this site is not fun anymore.
  24. Cool what brand led tubes?
