Need to talk more about innovation s in lighting. Ive seen some amazing led tech. Litemats....skypanels...how they shot neon goddess. Using water and LEDs and flaring the mattebox w a light ribbon. Now thats a cool trick. So many cool tricks. Using mylar instead of a bounce board. Using stick lights. So much crazy stuff. Cheap russian arms Etc etc

Careful about brand loyalty or you'll start sounding like Red fan bois Sony's menu system sucks. Yep I paid $3k or whatever it was to upgrade the f3 to slog - I think I paid it twice. The Canon C300 is made like a cheap plastic rag doll, and that thing cost like $20k in the day. The FS7 is tinker-toys level material - but the thing is like $9k right, when the f5 is like $15k they all take shortcuts. They have weird cycles of releasing the product at different times. And in the end, yes the sony image is kind of weird looking vs canon with nice blacks. but really at the end of the day, how much of a difference is there between the c300ii and sony fs7 line? Below I graded quickly - but last 2 are c300 and f55 - pretty much the same. digital bolex is better color, but has noise issues and can't go past 200 asa. so pick a camera, find its strengths and weaknesses and that's it, who cares. THEY ALL SUCK Even the Alexa sucks. And the phantom sucks.

Thanks - not really skillz - I'm also doing some grading work on it. I think it has less jello than the BMPCC, but I don't remember, skintones, probably less room to move around than BMPCC - I don't know - would have to do a test.

good call , the fs700 is another interesting option. test test test before you buy if you can or just scour vimeo and youtube for clips

I own one still, used to have three. here's some things I shot on it: It's a really great camera, has built in XLRs, I really like slog1 and sgamut - and man for the price, it's a great deal. Is it better than the canon 1dx which is probably now cheaper at the same price? Or the blackmagic MCC or pocket? That's where you need to do some testing. Check motion, color, etc. I think at this point a rigged out BMPCC with a nice monitor maybe a good alternative too. If you need the extra resolution. Anyway it's any interesting time to be alive.

Whatever it is, I think the look is working against them - cartoony, bright colors - no it shouid be crappier looking - iphone-ish style - it's also lit too well - it should have been underexposed - more doc style man I should make my own found footage horror film

I didn't ruin ES's life and career. I threatened to. There is a difference. I wasn't asking for a pat on the back, anonymous person. And you know, I have been scammed before. I lost $2000 when I was younger. And back then, I would have died to have an older, crazier person whose been around the block a few times help me back then, get my $2000 back from a corrupt production company that prayed on young talent. I worked 10 friday nights from 6pm till 6am when I was early 22, and never got paid a dime. And then two years ago I was owned $6000 and fighting tooth and nail I got that money as the company was collasping from a Ponzi scheme. Again, I would have just loved to have someone older help me. And, what, the guys didn't ask for my help right? Well that's right. So why did I do it? Because one of the scammed victims was threatening violence, very early on. I was actually scared for ES. and because not everyone asks for help, but the guys came on the forum and thought it was a lost cause so they kind of opened the invitation to find out more, and a lot of other people helped too - we all backed each other up. And if that stupid rangefinder that doesn't even work that well actually makes it to the guys, that's something, I guess. That we got back and got organized and got a scam artist who was using his leverage and thinking he could play the crowd for what they were, seeing those yankees stripes and thinking nothing past it. But people were able to rise above it, just as everyone should always do.

Just wanted to say I'm proud of everyone coming together to help out three members here get on their way to get their money back. It was an intense few days or so. But this really, in a dorky way, felt like a real community. A weird meta one, since none of us know each other in the real world, except for me and Mr. Coffee after a great skype interview session. Yes but unfortuately it kills the high end of the rec 709 source causing for some "dead" looking skintones. I was a fan for a while, then I kind of switched back to filmconvert.

Yes if you can understand that. Basically in the slog2 folder, apply either 4 things: 1. CIN (cineon colorspace originally developed by KODAK for film print to digital for Digital intermediate) 2. FPE - (film print emulator) 3. VS - (vision space lut) 4. I don't remember what this one is. If you go FPE or VS - it's done - it has converted it all for you. If you go CIN - it is now SUPER SUPER flat as CINEON log space. From here you go into the CINEON converter folder - and can convert to kodak 5293, FUJI, and some others. This gives you more control than FPE or VS for tweaking the image, and more control over the final image. all this is in the manual on their website - I highly recommend reading that. also try Filmconvert - I like that a lot more - it keeps everything in REC 709 so the highlights POP!

I'm not trying to blow any smoke up my butt, but I have shot on film (very little) and I use the alexa and red and my sony f65 on all my jobs and I work on fairly higher-end commercials, budgets of probably 250k to 500k. And you are right - he gave a lot of bad information. But all of these forums do - reduser is notoriously bad for this. An incredible amount of nerds on there pretending they know a lot more than they do. The only forums you should really trust for actual advice is CML (cinematographers mailing list) and cinematography.com and Roger Deakins - this has real DPs on there like David Mullen, Geoff Boyle, and plenty more members of the ASC, AFC, CSC, etc. I'm on this forum because I like you guys and I like seeing where this small tech is going. It's fun stuff and useful tools for newer applications. But, if you are making buying choices based on this guy - it sucks, but it's really on you. As I say, again and again, you need to do your own tests. Camera tests, lighting tests, lens tests. I know most of you say you don't have money for this - but filmmaking is expensive as hell and you can rent from lensrentals and borrowlenses, or get the production you are working on to do the test. With that said, I bought a dvx100 in 2004 or whenever when I first started out based on the recommendation of a juggler extra in a CBS documentary. So I was just buying on a whim. I didn't look at tests or charts. But please, don't listen to someone who says, " it's super cinematic like Sonys but not filmic." - WHAT THE BEJESUS does that mean? Cinematic but not filmic? If someone talks, make sure they have tests and charts and test video - and then think about it, and make your own conclusions. Scamming someone of money is similar to scamming someone of judgement - and this ES guy definitely is guilty of both. But like ES said when he gloated - it's on you and you're an idiot if you play into it. ES is trying to teach you guys a lesson - that he's a genius and you are idiots. I'm extremely excited for his excuse tomorrow of why his mother couldn't deliver the package, or that the package was mailed to the wrong place and now he has to track it down, or some other great genius lie he'll come up with. And I'm sure ES is very excited that I'm going to get not myself, but the entire community on here to instagram his friends and family. I will give a VIDEO tutorial of how to do it on your computer. I feel like if 20 people contacted me about my friend about him owing $1000 to people in an international scam, I may actually start to believe the person telling me this. Also, I just spoke to SLR Magic - and they are totally cool to have their product featured in the film. I also got the life rights for the film from ES - only cost me $250! Just wired him the money a few hours ago. And come on, international criminal - come on man - we are in the middle of a peace negotiation and hostage exchange - you do not start insulting the person you are trying to make a deal with during the deal. If ES refunds the money and gives them the range finder, I stick to my side of the bargain - I will tell his friends and family that it was all a misunderstanding.
