I think overall you guys are right - the deluts can be a little wacky - especially with skintone and raised shadows, and even just crushing shadows a little too much. But some can be nice. I think filmconvert potra and impulz 200t are really nice starting points for luts. I mean, at the end of the day, luts are kind of wonky - they through out information. But for me, a DP who just uses them to see what I can do with imagery quickly, they are useful. But yes, gotta be careful with them.

this is pretty damn amazing stuff. wow i need to rethink this camera. I just wish the thing wasn't 200 ASA. that makes it pretty difficult to use nowadays. Brings us back to lighting in the 90s. And a lot of things have smaller crews and move faster and have less bigger lights. Also the limited dynamic range. But still a really nice camera.

I started to mess with the deluts - for slog3 - these are excellent i didn't shoot this - but this is an example of one. Red raven, what? This looks 1000x better than stuff I'm seeing on this camera or any other. once again, it ain't the camera always, it's the grade (also dp, lenses, editor, lighting, etc etc)

I don't know - I can send you photos.

now we are talking! I don't know if its able to be done. I mean, I'm curious what their profit margin is. yea but then it takes a year after its introduced at NAB to come out, and another 6 months to fix the camera so it works.

I think the pocket camera had a lot of things that were amazing, and a lot that needed to be improved. 1. the lcd screen was low-resolution and off-axis viewing was hard 2. the moire was bad 3. the battery life was very low I think the micro improves on this. Sure you have to buy something like the small hd 501 monitor or blackmagic assist - but really if you shot on the pocket without a monitor it was so easy to get focus off all the time. I look forward to seeing more from this camera. All the stuff I have seen so far has been really impressive. No global shutter, but still the motion feels really nice on it. It's definitely miles ahead of the Sony A7SII and the image quality is also miles ahead of it.

yes it is - messaged you guys

I agree, this is the beginning of VR. It's perhaps the most exciting new tech I have seen in years. And now it's time for better optics - I hope blackmagic and especially Sony, the king of small optics, will start introducing some game-changers. Blackmagic, I hope they take a break from introducing new toys and work on global shutter. Also a lot of faith in LED technology - this just keeps getting better and better.

thinking more about it - using this camera with a paralinx trinton and you are good to go for wireless options.

Basically after reading as much as I could about the Blackmagic micro camera, I still think maybe the Sony RX100 IV is the better deal and camera for small POV crash cam work. The micro to work as a decent handheld rig requires something like a smallhd 501 and a small rig - so looking more at 2k plus cost of lenses - so around 3-4k total, vs the 1k for the sony rig. the micro camera will definitely have a better look, no doubt about that - what I have seen looks great - but it basically needs to be rigged out and turned into a rival to the Sony FS5. but without a small wireless option yet, it makes it even bulkier. I'm curious why it doesn't have built in wifi to transmit to an ipad like the dji phantom? I think until that's available, I'll hold off. But as a camera to use vs FS5 - I think it will have a much better IQ and compact feel - and you can rig it to v mount batteries and it will still probably weigh less. That's the comparison I'd love to see.

Fine Henry. The depatment of labor's reports are false. And everyone else is lying too.

It's been I think eight years of vimeo, And I feel that I personally go on it less and less. I don't know why. Maybe because the quality of the video compression is only slightly better than youtube? Maybe because most people are going mobile now to view video, and it's not as mobile ready? I'm less excited by short films people post on it. I end up skipping around a lot. I find I'm spending more time on youtube or facebook videos. Traffic looks like it went from 20 million views to 25 million now down to 15 million in the year. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/vimeo.com It's ranking is going down on Alexa. Is this a new era?

You're not under trial, Henry. You are being asked questions. Also let's talk bias. You are paid to defend a company. They are paying you thousands of dollars to defend them. I should have stated that. You arent a talking figurehead. I apologize. But being paid thousands of dollars usually puts you in their shared views. Its your job. I want to talk to the labor department too to get their take. I think the Young Turks said that the conditions of the bathrooms for the predominantly Hispanic workers was unhygienic, and there were no female bathrooms? Yet the bathrooms upstairs, used I think either exclusively or predominantly by white people are much more hygienic. But more importantly in their article, they said that B&H fired the cleaning staff of 25 years because they wanted to negotiate wages. This is one of many things the report found. And again, you guys wanted to settle with them. And they said no, and are taking your company to court. But since you are here, if you want to answer a few questions. 1. have you spoken to workers about worker conditions at the factory? And would they come forward to talk to me about it? 2. have you spoken to female workers about female worker conditions? 3. What is this about the firing of the cleaning staff? 5. What does it mean that B&H photo attempted to settle with the department of labor and they refused and are going to litigation with you? Does this pose more of a risk to them , since they can lose the civil case? 6. Historically how often does this happen, that the labor department refuses to settle? 7. How has worker conditions at B&H changed since this incident and since the unionization of employees? 8. What are ways that B&H can continue to improve it's condition of workers?

We are filmmakers. Our job...with 4k or not 4k is to tell stories. Deliver stories. Transmit cultural ideas. Its all relevant. All filmmaking is political. I mean there is politial undertone behind batman the dark knight and the dark knight rises. Neither time nor place for b&h? I think its never the right time or place. Activism and civil disobedience doesnt happen where you expect it to. Why in eoshd forum? Cause we are the ones who use b and h. Good to know about worker abuse issues from a company we buy from. What about products made by slaves in china? Can someone confirm this? I know about apple worker issues that they addressed but havent heard from other companies.

Giving all people the same rights. The right to life liberty and a pursuit of happiness that is written in our declaration of independence. A standard of equality. That women are taken seriously when they talk. That minorities are taken seriously. That all religions are. And if a person or group of people abuse this...we protest. Just as we are protesting donald trump. Is that discriminatory of me to ask for?

I think this is an interesting discussion. To me religious beliefs influence how a company runs as much as the political beliefs of its CEO and top brass, yet it is much more politically correct to discuss the falacy of someone's political beliefs than their religious beliefs.. Here's an interesting article I found of 17 companies that are deeply religious. The religion definitely in some examples affects how they operate and treat their workers. And how they contribuate to politians campaigns, just as the poltiical beliefs of billionares affects where they contribuate, or their religion as well. http://www.businessinsider.com/17-big-companies-that-are-intensely-religious-2012-1?op=1 I personally think one should be able to discuss how a company is influenced by the religion of the owners. Chick Fil A is actively anti-queer with their donations...without talk about this, we can not discourage others from acting in a way that hurts people of different sexual orientations, minorities, etc. Political correctness is a great limiter of free speech. While it's best to exercise caution to not fall into the trap of hate speech, this should not limit discussions of any society or business that influences how our world work. Political correctness I think holds back liberals from finding solutions to complex issues. We get so nervous, so touchy, when someone brings up religion in any setting of negativity. That's kind of what the film Spotlight taught me. All the abuse by the Catholic church of molestation of boys across America, was silences, partially because of the power of the Catholic church and partially because liberals just don't want to offend a religion, I feel. Amazon.com is run by Jeff Bezos, a libertarian, who according to articles in the NYTimes treats his employees like farm animals. Same with Uber. Their treatment of their drivers is downright disgusting. I wish Ayn Rand was never taken seriously. And I am happy that I can say that or not get immediately destroyed for saying that, because it's not politically incorrect to attack libertarians. With all this rambling, I still think it's company by company basis, how the religion of the CEO and top brass affect how the company works. If people study the strengths and weaknesses of businesses, we can create businesses with a higher ethical standard and support them with our money. Reward those financial who are more ethical. I have started to do this. I have dropped 80% of my business from B&H and increased 80% of my business to Barndoor Lighting, a smaller grip and lighting retail store.

I know there are very orthodox Christian businesses like "Hobby Lobby" and "In and Out" Burger, and Chick Fil A. Hobby Lobby getting into an incredibly amount of trouble in how it handles its female employees and contracetive needs. In and Out Burger seems to treat its workers well. Denny's on the other hand, I think was racist in its practices. And Chick Fil A, how they handled the gay marriage movement was horrible. I don't personally see a correlation in this case with the Hasidic. Adorama, I think is run by Orthodox Jews as well, and they have an excellent record of human rights and labor rights. I think you need to view each company on a company-per-company business, or you can run the trap into religious profiling. But with that said, it seems (and this is refuted I think) that Hasidic culture views non-Jews as "non-human" - http://mondoweiss.net/2014/01/haaretz-orthodox-taught/ And potentially a theory why at the country's largest Kosher meat plant, there were meth labs: https://consumerist.com/2008/05/19/immigration-raid-reveals-meth-lab-at-nations-largest-kosher-meat-plant/ A lot of liberals like me will not talk about this, cause they fear being labeled "anti-Semitic." For me personally, I'm Jewish, so that protects me slightly. But what I find frusterating about the PC liberal movement, is that we quickly bash as much as possible any ultra-Christian group like Chick Fil A or Hobby Lobby without even batting an eye, but allow , because of political correctness, to shield other potential ethical and human rights abuses. Whether the Hasidic culture has a negative view of non-Jews, I still have a Hasidic friend at my post office. We should all look past what a culture preaches, and judge people individually.

Wow. Amazing the department of labor report. No bathrooms for female workers. Seperate bathrooms for whites and nonwhites.. Firing workers for collective bargaining. Nice bathrooms for white employees, unsanitary bathrooms for Hispanic workers. And this is from the department of labor. Great links, thanks. ANd also: Occupational Safety & Health confirmed the reports of the horrible work conditions in the factories, which contradict the PR person who has been posting on here, his statements. So the department of health, and the occupational safety and health industry both conflict with his statements. Hmmm, the chance that this paid employee of B&H is hiding things, I feel, is pretty high. Maybe he isn't aware of what's going on behind the scenes. I mean, after all, he's just the head of PR. A talking figurehead who's job is to protect a company's reputation.

Wow yes Mattias and all - it does look much better the DB16 vs the BMPC - the skin has more red pigments in it - it has more inherent resolution so the image pops out more - looks more three-dimensional. The BMPC may be a little more out of focus, but hey this is nice. Also the falloff is greater - this maybe the lens though - but yes - much better image. Too bad it's a 200 ASA camera. That's the problem with CCD - very hard to get more sensitivity in the image. So you shot both at 200 ASA? But yes, it feels really nice. And that's the catch with this beautiful image - beautiful color and motion, but noise problems - like this video which looks gorgeous but is struggling it seems with noise in its shadows that is causing vimeo to go a little nuts. Also some intense digital sharpening. Anyway, there's always a catch, no one camera is ever perfect.

I own one - I need to do more tests. It takes the digital edge off of footage which I like - but yes, it's big
