yes Paul is awesome - very talented guy and amazing brain on him. He's a savant with technology and visuals - pretty unique brain in that man.

the grading was based on a fuji lut paul did in after effects. The lens was the olympus 9-14mm or something like that. Pretty crappy lens, but we were forced to either use that or another zoom that was a 12-12mm or something. With the micro 4/3 crop factor, we had to go as wide as possible.

Panasonics new Cinema Camera? - Announcement today
Ed_David replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
masters of none looks excellent - nice clean blacks and motion looks really nice. I am impressed. Haven't seen much else shot on the varicam but this camera looks to be nice. I think this camera, a red, an alexa, or a sony f65 for higher end stuff and you really won't notice as much difference than the person behind the camera and the colorist. They are all getting to a nice place. Now it's a question of ergonomics, workflow, power consumption, weight, recording media, etc etc. -

The fire and ice video shot on varicam vimeo page looks nice too. I dont know about the motion feel though. But id have to test out to maoe judgements. If anything this cannabilizes sales from their bigger varicam 35 unless there is some reason the 60k version can do more than this smaller one. But maybe sales were bad so they are making this 20k beast as good as they can. -

Wow this is a potentially damaging blow to the alexa mini and red weapon. 24k for a camera that will do raw via sdi and 800 asa and 5000 asa thats lightweight. Curious to mess with this guy -
thanks guys - the other Olympus pieces are pretty amazing - couldn't believe the look the other filmmakers got out of that camera. We used the 1st person rig thingy from some Sweedish person - 3rd Person View camera mount (ALL SPORTS PRO version) - it was pretty good - our thing was making it as far as we could from the person. the other olympus video was closer. Olympus paid paul the director to make a video - the only catch was we had to use their camera and lenses. the idea was all his. and funnily enough his idea was my idea at the time too - which latter became my film chatterhead - which is just the thoughts of someone walking thru the city. I turned mine into a political piece because it was consuming me a lot at the time and i wanted to make a film for bernie. little did I know the film would make me question him and the entire political situation. Oh well.

Here it is! We recorded hdmi 8-bit 4:2:2 out of it and went to the odyssey skin tones overall are nice! and stabilization is amazing. The camera was interesting to use - especially considering that it's a 200 ASA camera and has moire and dynamic range challenges - sometimes this is interesting to have to maximize something with limitations. It's difficult, but I guess it disciplines you.

Bieber is canadian. Look it up.

the president in America has executive orders - laws they can push through without Congress. Including going to war. President Bill Clinton used this to invade a country in Africa. The president has a lot of power. Plus they set the pace, and they are the face of our country dealing with other nations. Does the Congress like Obama? Not really. But he still is able to get things done. Did he get everything done? No. But that's the reality of our political system.

to Mercer - that is a great idea - actually maybe I should have had her talk to herself at the end, out loud - that would have been interesting. bringing subconcsious or interhead thought out into the world, with her decision, man that would have been good. oh well next time - i need to plan the films better. all a learning experience. also Canada had Rob Ford. And the previous prime minister was a right-wing bully. Canada has its own set of problems. America isn't the best, but it is a nation of over 300 million to Canada's 35 million people. That's a lot more people to set rules towards and run. Plus America, for better or worse, is the world economic leader - that comes with responsibilites. Granted, America has some real nuts, but so does Canada. While there are many fine Canadians, you also have Justin Bieber.

thank you guys all so much for caring about this film!! this is an awesome community!

New version is up! Special shout out to Mercer for feedback on some lines and everyone else. I want to thank you guys again for caring and helping me make the film better. Thank you. And the subtitles are much better now. Some are too fast still - but I was unfortuately picture locked with grading and don't have time to go back in and extend shots. Maybe some time later. Please share if you like it. Or give me more feedback so I can keep modifying the film until I am 105 years old.

What's interesting is I started the film to be for Bernie, but as I started doing the film - the script I mean, I started to read more. And I found out Bernie really doesn't have the credentials to be a president. Obama has very little, too, but he was a community organizer, which is a giant deal - especially in Chicago, and well he's Obama - he's a rock star. He is also young, so he still hadn't been given the chance to prove himself. Bernie though had a lot of time. Now that's not to say he's not a very important Senator - he is. It's just that he's not exactly a good choice to run this whole country. Hillary is, well, even I hate her. She's a sneaky little Clinton - but there's really not many options. And of course, beat trump. Whether the film conveges this - I feel that it does subtly - more like I am trying to go back to when I had this convesation a month or so ago, she's in the beginning of her unraveling. Just trying to plant seeds. Now how the heck do I get people to watch this film? I spent all day reaching out to every blog I could find - well young person political blog. But you guys are the only ones who are talking about it - thank you very much for that!!

The difficulty I found writing the film was that these are thoughts she quickly has. I couldn't put in too much data because a normal person can't remember that Bernie sanders was in charge of the VA committe during the VA crisis unless they specifically researched it. Or that Bernie co-sponsored a bill with Rand Paul. Only people who really looked deep into it would know that, and I think I wanted her to be me three weeks ago before I really went deep into researching both canidates. But that is the difficulty - cause in our head, we do say cliches and stupid things. At one point I had her swearing a lot more and even make a comment about Bernie being a Jew if that would hurt him - but it was tough - trying to really figure out how we think was pretty fascinating - and kind of weird now, because I still try to be conscious of how I talk to myself in my head. I want to research more though-patterns - and whether we all think similarly in our heads - and if it's more short sentances - but are they complete - and do we reference past nouns . Also how to convene this to a person in a film-form - without losing them. But i still have to go back and try to extend how long some subtitles last for. It is tough - length of piece vs people's attention spans on the internet. I tried to make it a 3 minute film for that reason, but it's about 4 minutes. It's a HOOOGE balancing act

okay guys, based on feedback here, I'm going back to version 1. I like the latest! If you could watch both side-by-side you would see Now trying my darnest to get it on some political websites. If you guys have any ideas, let me know. It's harder to get a film seen than it is to make it.
-
I agree with you on the subtitles, but I have to now shoot a feature. I think though overall it's much better to have them at the bottom.
-
Thanks guys - adding you guys to the special thanks - new version is uploading right now with subtitles at the bottom. Makes a whole lot easier for people to read. I should have done that 39 versions ago Thanks Mattius!!!!! A lot of people did look at the camera, especially on the subway! And this is New York, where no one would bat an eye if you were wearing a clown suit.
-
New version, updated. I tried 2 different actors for voice over. I just couldn't get it to feel right. Also I like it for the viewer to read in their head, something about it feels more like internal dialogue. Yes probably should just put the subtitles at the bottom in one place. That's a really good suggestion. Yea I don't know why I didn't try that.
-
New version will be uploaded in about 2 hours. Based on feedback from some friends - now it's even stronger, and has a different ending. And I actually was able to have the time to color it in resolve. Like all this discussion you guys are having - means the film is effective in that I would love it to be a conversation starter for all of us in our decision for the next president of 'Merica!

My short film - Chatterhead! Please share!! Thank you guys so much for your feedback - let me know what you think. Shot on the F65. Super easy to bring into resolve.

Sony's response to PXW-FS5 issues and why I am keeping hold of my camera

I think maybe they don't reach out to Westerners because they create them in Japan, so the language barrier could be tough. -

Sony has great customer support. Now im interested in the fs5. Man you always pioneer new tech! -
The P50 is out in the wild and some users are reporting a string of bugs. The bigger news for me now is the Nvidia M5000m 8gb mobile graphics card - only will be in 17' computers - but this will be a beast. the m2000m is in 15' computers, still seems pretty amazing with the new skylake processors and with thunderbolt 3. Curious if Apple refreshes the macbook pro or mac pro - but I'm not really holding my breath. Need to start playing with hackingtosh laptops to see how they do.

I love how these posts always become a question of my character. If you think I'm pompous and hypocritical and misinformed, and dangerous and blasphemous, and a harm to other impressionable people, that's pretty interesting to me. I assume everyone is guilty? Again, no, because I assume one person is not. There is no middle of a road in any argument, no matter the common saying. No matter if both parties are wrong. There is no middle road. The middle, compromised road allows the people in control to keep controlling all of us. And allows the people at the bottom to not be able to move forward. I know a lot of people started to hate me after I took a stand and supported two women's viewpoints over a popular videographer and test-maker, and that's fine. I asked for that, honestly. It wasn't that I supported them, it was how I went about it. Now the same emotions came up from a user over my comments about "Making A Murderer" and how it reveals how broken our criminal justice system is. Systemic broken. Then that user asked me again about the B&H case. That was reported in the NYTimes and Al Jezera - major news outets. The ones that broke the story on Amazon and their worker abuses, and nail salons in NYC, and many more investigative journalism. I should stop. And I will. It just wastes so much time. Besides, I don't know any of you. And you don't know me. All I know is that there is rampant corruption in our planet. All we can do is shed a light on it? And am I part of this corruption? Yes I am, and we all are. But the difference between me and a lot of people, is that I want to talk about it, address it, try to help make the world a more just place. I do more than just post on message boards
