  1. this looks great - wow - so many good cameras coming out!
  2. Yes but those are rare and newsworthy occurances. Im sure if someone looks into it 95 percent of the time when 2 people come together its true. maybe i need to research that since now im on trial.
  3. If they were two different ex girlfriends who i dated for more than 2 years. One a ex finance. I wouldnt think i would need to say more. Because i am on good terms with all my exes. None of them would ever accuse me of physically or emotionally torturing them. If they did i would have nothing but sadness and remorse for them. I would reach out persoanlly and figure it out. I wouldnt say anything public about them in a statement. always take the high road especially if you have any internet recognition. And if i had sponsors i would have reached out privately to them. I wouldnt have gone to facebook and posted that i needed someone to remove posts on my wall. But im sorry am i on trial here? I have had no one accuse me of any wrongdoing here. But thats okay i am fine to answer questions.
  4. If 2 women came forward accusing me of abuse here would be my response.... "these claims are completely false and i am seeking legal protection immediately. This will be a matter for the courts." Thats it. Thats what i would do.
  5. No guys unlike you think i will never cause domestic violence towards a person. And on saudi arabia i have spoken a lot about this issue . But unlike saudi arabia this is an issue i have the choice to make a difference on. I will not condone violencd towards anyone nor condone taking the side of a person over two women who claim domestic abuse.
  6. After spending way too much time on this issue, I have come to this conclusion - the filmmaker community which I am a part of (confession: I am a nerd and like to tinker with cameras and spend too much time drooling over the next camera or lens or light or toy) - is this: We aren’t the most graceful bunch. Go on reddit and look at the talk of Philip Bloom after the Kessler dropping its sponsorship of him or just search twitter. A lot of ugliness has arisen. We have all mostly reacted with victim blaming - calling the two women crazy, liars, and more, and of course rushed to the defense of Philip Bloom, because, well, we think we know him. I owe a lot to Philip - he, along with Shane Hurlbut, help democratize the world of filmmaking. He rose to fame with the 5d mark II - showing the masses how you could make a film look as good as hollywood with this cheapish dslr camera that at the time could only shoot 30p. It improved on the 35mm depth of field adapter, in that there were less errors and it was a smaller camera. And I bought a kessler crane because of him, and a redrock matte box because of him. He influenced me, like Ken Rockwell or Art Adams or Geoff Boyle or Shane Hurlbut. He was a hero to me - showing the world how anyone with a good idea can make beautiful films. I learned from his coloring. I started using filmconvert. So I really owe a lot to him. He got me into coloring - to not give up on my footage - to see what was more possible. He help me progress as an artist and camera nerd. But with a sad heart, I have to draw my distance, after reading and speaking with Sara who came forward, reading the other girlfriend’s thoughts, reading Eric Kessler’s thoughts, and reading Philip Bloom’s statement. His statement was the final straw. His accusation-like attitude struck me the wrong way. I wish he had written something more like, “I am deeply sorry about this and embarrassed - none of it is true, I am pursuing legal actions. I am sorry for everyone to have witnessed this. Please I am ask for some privacy in this trying time, for me and my ex-girlfriends” But anyway we camera nerds reacted like gamersgate - where people innocently came to Philip’s defense, which in essence is not so innocent. By defending Philip, you then take a side that indicates that you think two women may be lying. They maybe telling the truth, but they may also be liars. This isn’t so cut and dry. It puts all of us in an uncomfortable space - especially me because I owe a lot to Philip with his sharing of information. When Bill Cosby happened, comedians took the high road. They distanced themselves, they evaluated, and they still called out Bill Cosby. 16 women’s word against one. They all took the side of the women. Because, that’s the side of standing up against abuse. Or should you take the side of Bill Cosby? Is this all a great witch hunt? These women just want to ruin this great man, who help pioneer comedy - America’s dad? Before a trial. But they did it, so more women would feel okay with coming out about abuse - for the bettering of the world - they took a chance. Same with Philip, to a smaller degree. Do you side with one person, or two ex-girlfriends, one who dated him for two years? Women who gave similar stories. Who are we to decide? Or do you need to wait till 14 women come forward? Do you make a stand now or allow abuse to continue unchecked until more evidence flows in, which it probably won’t do. Why do we have to care? Shouldn’t this be private? We are the people. We are the jury of peers. There are no lawyers, there is no courtroom, it’s just us - and many times this is all we get. It’s all up to us to make a decision. To either support a man who has two women who dated him combined for over two years saying that he was emotionally and physically abusive, or siding with a person who calls two women who dated him for over two years, both “delusional” and “crazy.” in his statement. This is two against one. Yes we could wait for more evidence, but this isn’t Charles Lindbergh’s baby - there probably won’t be more than this. And the women have not put out a lawsuit - so I doubt there will be a trial unless Bloom pushes for legal action based on defamation of character. But looking at his statement, he doesn’t indicate this at all. So this is all we get, probably. Does Philiip have a right to privacy? Does anyone accused of abusing anyone have a right to privacy? Not to me. Here’s my story. My production company is kitty guerrilla films - named after Kitty Genovese - the classic psy 101 case about 28 people doing nothing as a woman was raped and killed in Queens because they all thought someone else was going to call the police. Two weeks ago I saw a woman hit her kid on the train. In a car of 14 people I was the only to do something. This is no different to me. I feel abuse, I react. I am not going to spend my whole life being quiet when I see something I feel, in my gut, like abuse. What gives me this right? It is in everyone. The world would be a lot better place if more people spoke up. And what if I am wrong? Well that’s the thing about life - it happens in real time. There is a chance I’m wrong though I doubt it, and if I am wrong, I will apologize to Philip Bloom immensely both publicly and privately. I will. But I am taking a chance based on my gut reaction to all testimony I read, including facebook post deletions, google plus pages, and the words of Sara’s friends on facebook who personally reported hearing all about this. That all went to me as a juror of my peer. And for those who think what I am writing is grounds for legal action by the issue of slander - it’s not - I have said nothing false. I am merely compiling evidence that I have read and from the internet. That’s what all filmmakers should do - interact with the world around them, analyze it, and present their findings. We shouldn’t be scared of being sued. We are truth to power. to ourselves, to the world around us. We are storytellers. We help change society, for the better, sometimes for the worse. But we are part of the changing force of culture. This is a great privilege we have. This is unique to our society at this time. And this was a right fought over for a very long time. We need to cherish this ability we have. That’s what a nurse said to me who we interviewed in New Orleans last week, for a doc on Katrina 10 years later. She said we filmmakers are the agents of change, that help change the world. When an issue happens inside our community, let’s not all bury our heads in the sand until it is safe to come out and react. from http://eddavid.tumblr.com/post/116204421574/the-camera-nerd-community-reaction-to-philip-bloom
  7. I think this is really pretty - you cpatured a really gentle mood. I love mist in the morning. Keep it up - glad you had the courage to share!
  8. Andrew unfortunately i have to agree with the author. You live by the internet you die by the internet. It sucks but as soon as you put your name and face and make a brand your private life is now public. So just be a good person to others and know that whatever you write on the internet will be recorded forever. It sucks right? Because i get scared too of what i write. i was super scared after occupy videos i did my commercial prod companies would never hire me again. But guess what i got 2 super giant jobs because of my occupy video! So be kind and follow your gut. respect everyone like you are a public figure even if you dont want to be. When you meet fans in public or via phone or email be kind to them. You never know who will try to mess with you later. oh well. Thats the rub of our modern twitter era. Youll be fine.
  9. Yes im begininng to be introduced to some mighty eccentric personalities and also weird possible sock puppets and others pretending to be lawyers etc. Its getting really fascinating seeing who comes out of the woodworks. One account was a fake female account to sound more legitimate in defaming the two womens character. The comments on reddit are pretty interesting too. Discrediting sara as crazy and overexageratting because women are crazee and person had an ex who was crazee so all women must be crazee! And no way a man can be abusive especially someone who does charity work. Also juvenile views of mental health issues. I.e. "if you thought of suicide you must be crazee!!" The fact that sara thought of suicide i would think would make more people sad about this. But no the internet and our little democratic filmmaking community dealt with this far less rationally than the conedic world dealt with bill cosby. That saddens me. A bunch of comedians outclassed us. But then again conedians are highly sensitive and intelligent people. The reaction to bloom reminds me of gamersgate. We are no better than a bunch of online video game nerds. And that makes sense. I am a gamer. And im sure if you guys admit it many of you are too. I loved the last of us On ps3. Gamers are immature. We spend hours playing games vs going out into the world developing emotional connections with people.
  10. What does shame mean? Shaming someone for saying something. Shaming the shamer the shame its all the shame.
  11. Ah soo good - that made me laugh a lot, L-A if you want to see me there, I'll be at the Red cine booth, hanging out with my pal Jim Jinnard. Or also I'll be at the Vimeo booth - under the "whiney white guy from nyc short film booth who does test videos of my dogs." Hope to see all there. Especially Bloom - and can't wait for him to "beat the living shit of me." Maybe he can finish the job!
  12. If evidence comes out that supports Philip Bloom and discredits both women via the court of law or some other smoking gun, I would apologize publicly and privately. Judging people is an important part of life - you can let people be free to do what they want as long as it doesn't impede others. For instance, I believe that it is wrong for a person to physically or mentally abuse someone else. If I witness this, I will say something. Others may take a stand on other issues, such as climate change, economic disparity, gender issues, etc etc - and they should. I don't like people who are sheep. Sheep allow bad people to get away with a lot of stuff. Here in the US, because of a lot of silence, George W Bush and Cheney and Rumsfield literally got away with torture. Because enough people did not speak up, we also went to an unnecessary and costly and deadly war in Iraq. There were no weapons of mass destruction. I am calling on all of you, and myself, to not be sheep. I will never regret saying that. Now what does this have to do with EOSHD - a forum for filmmakers? This is a place for filmmakers to talk about filmmaking - and politics is part of filmmaking. So is being present and observing. Am I being negative - no, I am taking a negative situation and trying to find the positive in it - to create change for good. Life isn't black and white - sometimes you have to pick a side. Not picking a side is picking a side.
  13. We are the people. We are the closest thing we will ever get to real honest justice and truth. The law has failed us time and time again. I am okay with anyone judging all of my actions and me judging theres. I wish more people judged others. Less people minded their own business . I started my production company kitty guerrilla films with this matra. I will not be silent if others are around me and i hold myself to this. And words. I am not afraid of anything i have said re bill cosby or philip bloom or ray rice. If i can help the world become better then i will feel good. If i am a force of bad or nothing then i feel worse.
  14. No he's been accused of physical and mental abuse. By two women. Bill Cosby has been accused of drugging and having sex with unconscious women - without their consent - by over 17 women. And trolling is when you anonymously post on a forum and say derogatory things, like a few have said on here. I am not hiding. The sequel is coming its called, "no one wants to watch a video on the environment including this one" - also "the internet forum is for men" which may be interesting - also a bunch of other projects I'm working on.
  15. Yea while we are at it let us also end the witch hunt over bill cosby and close this thread! Bill Cosby should be seen as innocent even though 18 women or so have come forward. Let's give Bill Cosby the benefit of the doubt until there is clear evidence No and i was a huge Bill Cosby fan as i was also a giant phil bloom fan. He brought dslr shooting to the masses. He helped democratize filmmaking. It saddens me to reach this point. But i cant condone any sort of violence in my own filmmaking online nerd community And i ask all of you to not turn a blind eye. To not take the middle road. Is phil bloom bill cosby bad? In my eyes...yes. thats so sad. I feel so bad for all. And all the pain i have brought you guys to have to come out of your f stop shells and not think about nab and all the new toys. To have to think about what it means to have someone you respected turn out to not be the person you wish he was. I will miss phil's smile and his reviews. Goodbye Bill Cosby and now goodbye philip bloom.
  16. Vincent gafney on twitter just dropped a 13 tweet summary of why kessler did the right thing and everyone else close to kessler.
  17. Thank you for writing this. Gives a very good background of information for domestic abuse.
  18. One thing to note - shooting at cineform RAW or DNG Raw takes up an incredible amount of space. You get 45 minutes for a 256gb card. On average, if you shoot doc stuff - that's like 2-3 hours of film a day - so that's like 1 TB of data per day - just for the raw then about 400 GB to transcode to pro res - so 1.5 TB of footage a day - that's quite a lot. But for narrative work - this is going to be quite a fascinating camera to watch. And so many cameras are getting beautiful looks, combined with really lovely color grading, more and more each camera is getting to such an amazing image quality at such a low price. Very exciting times for everyone who wants filmmaking to be affordable!
  19. the workflow idea sounds very efficient. I can't wait to see this camera in the real world and some tests against other cameras! Well done - once again, finding a camera not many know about and showing the possibilities of it!
  20. amazing looking - so it records KINERAW and has a transcoder to get to Cineform - http://www.kinefinity.com/kinemax/?lang=en looks very exciting - I'd love to see how this compares to the Alexa, Red Dragon, Panasonic Varicam 35, etc. What is the sensor on it? Maybe similar to Red sensor.
  21. the F55 has a wider color gamut, global shutter that's better - and more resolutions - and a different sensor. I haven't done a side-by-side test so I wouldn't know though for sure. If someone wants to test it out - I just assume the F55 and F65 are their "pro" options. Also this was before the FS7 existed.
  22. just as kessler showed. No one should condone domestic abuse or any abuse. I hope for a fair trial. This is very sad news.
  23. thanks guys - now that the c300 mark II is coming out - I may have used that instead of the f55 to shoot this - or the alexa mini - getting very interesting the whole market. Probably still wouldn't have used the red dragon or weapon due to heating issues and weird OLPH issues.
