The S1 is the only full frame mirrorless camera to offer 4k 60p, funny how it is being criticised for offering it - i doubt it is segmentation that is holding it back, more a technical limit same as the Eos-r can only do 4k 25p with a 1.8 crop and horrible RS and disappointing DR. Panasonic tend to try and cram as much as they can into their cameras, but Canon not so much - they are the masters at segmentation, you just have to pay 1dx mk2 prices to get 4k60p, but then they won't also give you c-log...

Camera seems to tick all of my boxes and I really like this fellas style. It does look huge in his tiny hands but it sounds like they haven't compromised on ergonomics, build quality or the IBIS and from all accounts it is a great camera to hold and use. Really need to get my hands on one to try, local photo stores don't hold it in stock here, have to order it which is a bit of a pain and isn't going to help them sell any Don't personally see what the problem is with its size, with full frame lenses you want a camera with a bit of heft - the Sony A7 is way too small, lenses seem to dangle off it (and the IBIS is rubbish) - to me the Canon 5d is a great ergonomic camera for taking photos with (not so much for video cause of the lack of EVF - I like to look through the viewfinder), and no one complains about its weight - the Panasonic S1 and 24-105 lens is lighter than Canon 5d with 24-105

I'm not missing the fact that £2100 is a lot to spend on essentially a hd hybrid in 2019 when all the other cameras offer decent 4k. It's not like 4k hasn't been available for many years on other cameras, Canon seems way behind on this, RS and DR. Tis a bummer cause I've got a lot of Canon lenses but I think I'm going to sell them, and the good old C100 and finally free myself from the constant disappointment of waiting for Canon to get their arse into gear

Good post - and I'd argue the Pany S1 and Fuji Xt3 have nicer colour, and the evf on the S1 is by all accounts class leading. All the recent cameras have their quirks but the Canon to me is the most galling Ha have got a Blackbird stabiliser gathering dust somewhere... Am not a fan of excessive unmotivated gimbal and slider (and drone while we're at it) shots in general - prefer classic handheld or tripod aesthetic

I get it for use on a gimbal but am not a fan, they're so overused and mechanical looking they kind of bug me these days. Ha sorry am going to be 50 in a few weeks, can you tell...

How did any of you lot manage in film production a few years ago, AF has only just become semi reliable? You all talk like you can't work without it? I'd say the RS is another major issue with the Eos-r - I've tried it and it is very noticeable and no you don't have to whip pan to see it. I had the Sony a6300 and I don't want to have to be so limited in how I move a camera again

Ah thanks for that, quite disappointing for such a new 'full frame' camera. They measured Panasonic S1 as having 12.2 stops to the eos-r 10.7 and that gap could grow even bigger when full v-log comes to the s1

what's the DR on the EOS-r like, I've not seen any measurements for it? Is it better than c100 with original c-log, does its other flavours of log push it beyond that? Presume you would need an external recorder to make use of 10 bit but has anyone tested it? Sorry lots of questions...

so has the EOS-r, the full frame mirriorless market is getting crowded, hopefully prices will keep going down

I don't know, unless Sony start putting their Venice colour science into their mirrorless cameras, the S1 and the Nikon have a much nicer image to my eyes. From what I see the S1 has beautiful colours straight out of the camera and can't wait to see what it's like with full v-log. The Nikon needs some work but can get nice colours too. Sony really needs to address their colours or regardless of specs they will lose a lot of potential customers. They have shown they can create lovely image - the F35 and new Venice prove that, they just need to start putting it into their lower end

How are you folks finding the IBIS on this camera? I've read a few comments saying it's even better than on the GH5 - would love this to be true, and I have a load of old manual lenses that I'd like to use handheld

I'd say the RS and crop on the eos-r is unacceptable to me in 2019. And 4k 50p is great to have. I like to focus myself, feel more involved in the scene. Ive got Canon cameras but am preferring the Panasonic colours from this and Eva1, and gh5s. Is all subjective and good we've got choices

Thanks for all the feedback am liking what I'm seeing, definitely looks the best FF mirrorless to me. When it gets full V-log the camera will be a beast. Has anyone tried the S35 mode and compared it to full frame for image quality, I've got a lot of ef-s lenses that could still be useful?

Fanboys and girls of any inanimate object seems utterly bewildering to me - not sure what this thread is hoping to achieve other than giving fanboys of other cameras an opportunity to join the party

Yes funny how the S1`is the only camera that ticks all of the boxes from the OP and yet folk then feel the need to move the goalposts and ignore it. I think the S1 is by far the most compelling of all the recent mirrorless 'full frame' cameras, and the image is looking lovely to my eyes. Here's another little short, love the colours

From the cinema 5d dynamic range test the Panasonic S1 had more DR - 12.2 than the Sony FS7 - 12, and that was without V-log for the S1 so I would expect it trumps the A7iii

Looks great, full sensor 4.6K images up to 120 frames per second is pretty impressive, always loved the image the Ursa pro gives out

Yes for video at least until the full frame cameras can tame RS at 4k (or even give us full frame 4k eh Canon), and get 4k 50p up to speed - then crop cameras and their smaller lenses will still have advantages.

I've got the eos m50 which has slightly sharper hd than the usual Canon dslr mush but still looks very soft when I cut with the c100, and the limited dr and lack of c-log or wdr, zebras and waveform is frustrating. Would be happy with an updated version of the m50 - bit sharper and with c-log, am ok with crop camera for stills

OK after some misplaced excitement due to early spec leaks - it's pretty clear the EOS-RP is not going to be of much interest to most of us here who want a hybrid camera for decent video as well as stills. It just seems to have got us all snarling at each other For me if they had just added 8 bit c-log at FHD which was sharp enough to cut nicely with C100 then I would be interested. 4k and 10 bit would be lovely but Canon don't like to give you what you want or even what its competitors give you. But I would overlook all that for decent FHD with c-log. Feel like I've been waiting 5 years for Canon to give me a b cam to my c100 at a decent price but still hasn't happened I realise the EOS-R has that but for me it is way too expensive with such a crippled 4k - crop and bad RS. At that price I would also want 10 bit internal. Maybe there is room for a more video oriented budget camera that sits between the EOS-RP and EOS-R. For my needs anyway

Sorry I thought it was obvious I was responding to your certainty that the audience prefer the imagery of Canon. I don't think that matters at all it is the story that makes films successful or not It's probably just me but this winners prefer Canon thing you keep saying comes across like some naff marketing spiel (and I use Canon cameras)

No it's totally about the story. Nobody cares if one image has slightly nicer colour than another if the story isn't compelling. I haven't seen any of them but I bet all those nominated documentaries have good stories. That's what makes them successful
