1.74x - A Crop Odyssey - Canon 5D Mark IV officially announced
Luke Mason replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It IS measured horizontally. It ALSO works if you measure diagonally, let me do the math for you: A DCI 17:9 full sensor area would be 6720x3454, using Pythagorean Theorem you can calculate that the diagonal pixel count is ~7597 the diagonal pixel count of a DCI 17:9 4096x2160 crop area is ~4631 7597/4631 = ~1.64 extremely close to Super 35mm FOV. You own a 1DC so you know the 4K crop factor on 1DC is ~1.3, that's 5184/4096 = ~1.26 and the S35 mode on 1DC is 5184/3216 = ~1.6 On 1DX II, the 4K crop is 5472/4096 = ~1.34 Happy? -

No they have not "moved on", work is being done on 7D Mark II, once they get their hands on 5D Mark IV, there will be stuff going on as well, just a matter of time. -

That's exactly what I said, nothing can be attached between an EF mount and an EF lens, otherwise you mess up the image. -

Based on their current understanding and implementation of RAW video, they can only crop in to a smaller area, not expanding the imaging area. -

Anything including focal reducer is not possible on EF mount due to its long flange distance. -
HDR video works on 5D Mark IV by shooting 60fps 1080p with two alternating exposure setting, then the camera merges these two exposures to create an HDR 30fps 1080p video.

C100/300 uses 2 x 2 binning too but from a 3840x2160 sensor area and is colour-ware, the OLPF was optimised too. But if you sharpen the S35 image (best recorded externally as ProRes or DNxHD) a little, it matches perfectly with C100/300.

1DC S35 mode uses a cropped area of 3216 x 1809 photosites on the sensor. It does a 2 x 2 binning to get a 1608 x 904 RAW bayer and upscales to 1080p. Since the sensor OLPF was not optmised for this binning mode, you get slightly more aliasing shooting S35, which also makes it perceptually sharper.

Be aware that the HDMI out on 1DC has a ~200ms lag
-
Actually it was pretty usable, go take a look at the shootout I did with 1DX II and 1DC. 1080/120p looks on par with 5D Mark III's HD.
-
Canon stopped using line-skipping since 5D Mark III. They use pixel-binning to get a lower resolution raw bayer and upscale to 1080p.

I guess they noticed the "C" badge was deeper red colour cause the blood...

RX10 II sensor uses backlit and stacked design which generates significant amount of heat during integration. But thermal noise is usually chromatic, not white, it could be readout noise too since RX10 II has very high pixel density. you might want to double check your exposure settings, or use a small fan/cooling pad on the camera. Generally this type of camera is not suitable for night time long exposure, something like A7s would give you better quality results.

Canon XC10 versus Sony RX10 III. The Canon is underrated!
Luke Mason replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
yes, C-Log employs a different gamma curve that maps 18% gray at 32% IRE -
Sony cameras runs an automatic pixel re-map every month or so. If you want to force it you can set the date forward on your date/time a couple months, and then turn the camera off. Wait about five seconds, the shutter will close, the sensor will re-map and the pixels.

Yes, I've traveled with crew that has BMCC, C300, when going through X-ray check they almost always get asked to be taken out of the bag and inspected, never happens to 1DC because they've probably seen millions of DSLRs.

Filming without permission is also a breeze with 1DC...

Canon 5D III x Lexar 256GB CF: max recording time: 38:34 .. make sense?!!
Luke Mason replied to Ty Harper's topic in Cameras
It's a known issue that 5D3 1DX 1DC and other Canon DSLRs don't work well with 256GB cards, better have multiple 128GB cards. 1DX II however improved support for larger capacity CF cards. -
Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues

At 25c ambient temp, 4K recording at 1 hour mark showed temp warning but it did not stop recording, so no limit. -
Sony A6300 review (rolling) - Striking image but nagging issues
