Thx bro ! @PannySVHS this was shot on neutral (pp off) I shot something in cine 3 with stills gamma today and it looks awesome ! I will be posting that sometime this week I used a tiffen satin 1 & a satin 2 on the tighter shots. I love these filters, they dont deteriorate the image much but definitely help cut down the edge sharpening & local contrast creating this smooth filmic look. As far as color is concerned I think my Panasonic G85 has the edge but I need more time to dial in the settings with the a6500. Im sure I can squeeze a bit more out of it in post with cine3 & still color mode

Why I feel Panasonic treats all but GH5 users as a second class
kidzrevil replied to Amazeballs's topic in Cameras
This is so not true. Its a reach not based in facts or data and doesn’t support any claim or point about the camera market I was originally in a rush to get the gh5 then I had to stop and ask myself why ? The sensor improvements over the gh4 in the g85 is incredible. I can only imagine what a gx9 and g90 will look like ? -

Yup and this is what im waiting on. The highlight features of the gh5 to trickle down to the g90 like they did with the gh4 and g7. They improved the sensor and removed all the features I dont use anyway lol -

lol bro its a midrange camera...you can't expect pro features in a midrange camera. Im a G85 owner myself but common sense tells me if they gave me all the features of the gh5 in an update then why would I save up for a gh5 ? -

Thank you ! I had a feeling it was something to do with the optical design of older lenses ? as far as cine3 is concerned people really slept on it man. The other cine curves although useful are super compressed by 70% ire. Cine3 curve has this gradual compression thats almost linear like a still gamma curve and I am in love. Expose with white at 90% and everything else just rolls off smoothly into the clipping point at 109% Gonna play with cine3 and other color matrix today

I shot on Cine 3 with Cinema color yesterday and I was blown away. Underexposed by 0.3 to 0.7 the highlight roll off looked amazing without being super compressed. I haven’t gotten any problems with overheating but I am experiencing an issue with my nikkors wide open with the speedbooster. I get this weird purple/magenta cast. Im highly considering moving onto small modern glass like the voigtlander 40mm f2 but thats a story for another day ! I’ll post some stuff today

@Kisaha did I mention that I like the image ? I didn’t buy a full frame camera because I wanted the specific advantage of using a speedbooster in combination with the downscaling from a 6k sensor to 4k. As far as preferences go to each his own. What you may like may not be functional for me and vice versa. We are not talking about the a7sii there are far better video cameras than that as well but thats subjective. I can agree the camera looks ugly and is unbalanced ergonomically. It has not become a deal breaker yet. I will make my final decision on its ergonomics when I see how it feels with the battery grip. as far as full frame look vs super 35 its really not that serious if you know how to employ focal length equivalency into your work. The spatial compression of using full frame vs super 35 is different and each presents an advantage in certain scenarios. Aesthetically I prefer to shoot wide angle lenses on full frame (or full frame equivalent thanks to speedbooster) and normal to telephoto focal lengths on super 35

The a6500 looks sweet with the speedbooster ultra. The fullframe look with the 6k downsampling is amazing

Leica isn’t manufacturing the lens, they are outsourcing their optical design. Panasonic makes their alterations (probably including AF in the design and diff coatings) and leica approves

Wait you went through this too ?! I was really hoping it was a problem exclusive to this model because I bought it from a liquidation service. I figured the last guy that bought it broke it somehow they repaired it then it broke again. I pray my next model is better cause Sony makes great cameras but there should be no reason why they have so much sample variation in their cameras Beautiful colors ! What profile was this shot in ?

ooops ! I sent it back btw. I bought a brand new model instead, I can’t wait to start shooting with it

amazing color man, I love this

In my experience the major factor of motion cadence is in camera sharpening. The in camera sharpness algorithim is always looking for high contrast edges to accentuate to increase the perceived resolution. This edge detection and enhancement creates a "flickering" edge effect + judder when things are moving horizontally across the screen. Light grades of diffusion help me get better motion cadence out of my footage because the diffusion softens the transition in high contrast areas thus decreasing the judder effect and improving the motion cadence. I do not believe all i improves motion it just reduces some of the artifacts ipb frame prediction can create

I just got a refurbished sony a6500 and I am getting this weird image artifact thing when recording video. This is how all my 4K footage looks after recording and even some of my still images. I thought it was a sensor issue but the image looks absolutely fine in the live view mode. Any idea what can be causing this ?

incredible !!!!

are you sure you are using the right compression settings ? I have the exact opposite experience with youtube vs vimeo vimeo's terrible buffering is my only issue with the platform. The image quality is better than youtube though. I cant wait til vp9 becomes a widely supported format to help use get better quality compression

I just bought one & will be doing lots of testing with it. Even though there are clear benefits to 4:2:2 10bit there are a heap of other factors that influence the output. 8 bit 4:2:0 is not that bad and in most cases the difference between the two are imperceptible. I hope I can help debunk this 4:2:0 8 bit myth before someone reading this forum goes crazy and starts thinking all their cameras with that output are now completely garbage LOL Dude your shot selection is incredible ! You did a great job at picking shots that really sell the feel of the song and hides the cameras defects. I was on the lookout for this atrocious RS everyone is talking about with movement in the frame but you did a good job at keeping it under control. I primarily shoot handheld so this gave me hope

Would love to see it when its out ! Those stills look dope !

@Arikhan valid point ! Im sticking to my 4k 8bit 4:2:0 to 10bit 4:4:4. I will not for a second deny the clear advantages gh5 has in 10bit 422 but I understand both cameras are processing a 14 bit raw image and stripping it down to a 4:2:0 8bit image or 10bit. If you get as close to the final image as possible in camera the advantages of a 10bit 422 source file for general post processing start to become less and less relevant. The quality of the sensor ultimately trumps the quality of the output files (which are great on both sony and panasonic to begin with) and downscaling from a bigger 6k sensor to a 4k file seems like a huge advantage to me When I used to shoot with the xc10 I got some seriously high bitrate 422 files but the sensor performance discarded that advantage. There are things in the processing pipeline that are arguably more important to the final image than the file or "negative" the camera produces if you shoot and expose with the limitations of the codec in mind. All intra at 400mbps might as well be IPB at 200mbps which is still very good but add 10 bits in there and thats even more data the camera needs to assign per stop of brightness. Combine that with LOG recording and you have even less mbps to dedicate to each stop of brightness. The next great update we need to see is raw recording to see the big IQ advantage people are praying for

You're going to be blown away when you see how the skin tones render with the warm black pro mist

Thank you ! Every shot was handheld ! I have really steady hands but the vertical grip was essential to me in terms of ergonomics. I sold my a7s because of the blue channel clipping with artificial lights in concerts/clubs & neon signs. I was told a cure for this was to shoot at a very warm color temperature but it was a deal breaker for me (at the time). I am considering getting an a7sii or a6500 because the low light performance is valuable to me for shooting in NY at night. As far as the in camera sharpness is concerned there are ways to tame if by using diffusion and -7 detail settings. I hope this helps, the a7s is really versatile. I would avoid the a7r though
