Yup. This was shot with the Tiffen Satin filter
-
@jonpais I love the tiffen satin and black satin filters and I generally just leave them on the lens ! The diffusion is not distracting and is pretty much invisible unless you know what you are looking for. The effect makes the filters great for general use and helps the image compress better ! Although I do love the black pro mist you have to be careful with them cause they flare like crazy. The image I attached was shot with a nikkor auto 85mm f1.8 with tiffen black satin 2 filter

lmaooo nailed it
-
@Mattias Burling I had to take another look at your kipon medium format speedbooster overview and I am amazed at the look of those shots. Its beyond full frame, the rendering looks like a painting !
-
@Cinegain they 28mm f2.8 is a beast ! I got its older & slower brother the nikkor auto 28mm f3.5. Both of these lenses create great images and I love how the speedbooster sharpens them up. Im probably gonna invest in some fujinon or zeiss tevidon primes. Im still very curious about the rendering of c-mount lenses
-
Im loving the nikkor 50mm f2 out of all the nikkor 50s ! Especially since I hear it mirrors the design of the leica 50mm f2 summicron. I have never tried a leica lens but I am seriously tempted. Leica lenses will make you go bankrupt just looking at them im terrified to try one out ??
-
First shot is nikkor auto 105mm f2.5 second shot is the nikkor auto 50mm f2 on speedbooster xl. Both lenses have a diffusion filter slapped on them. These are straight out the camera...
-
@Bioskop.Inc I have no experience with medium format lenses but I can vouch for the non ai nikkors. The flares are beautiful (if you are into that kinda thing) and the shadow to highlight rolloff is beautiful with diffusion filters. Idk how they perform on a full frame camera though
-
Dude I went full non ai nikkor and I am in love. I sold the 35mm f1.4 ais for the 35mm f2 non ai and I like the rendering a little better...less field curvature but with that 3D pop. The 50mm f2 non ai came in the mail today and the rendering looks way better than the 50mm f1.4 non ai and 50mm 1.8 ais I had. this is with the pana g80 speedbooster xl & 85mm f1.8 non ai & the last shot is the 35mm f2

Big Fancy Cameras, Professional Work, and "Industry Standard"
kidzrevil replied to Matt Kieley's topic in Cameras
rent bro. Let them know you have access & experience to the high end stuff they are looking for. You never know, you may be talking to someone who doesn't know shit about cameras so they will be comfortable just knowing that you have the experience with what they know as "high end". Someone is bound to recognize your talent regardless of the equipment you own, your work is really good man ^^ so true -
@Matt Kieley damn those look good. Goes to show you...these old cameras still go hard !
-
@jonpais that looks really good SOOC and the reds dont clip...hmmm -2 saturation maybe worth a shot. You think there is anyway to get rid of that yellow color cast IN camera ? Maybe Pana bodies need to be white balanced to be a bit cooler than what would be considered accurate white balance
-
The rolloff is better because every picture profile has a knee built into the s curve at the top with the exception of cinelike d. i think the standard camera profiles produces better color and gives consistent results. I prefer Cinelike D because there isn't a knee built into the profile and it is compatible with so many LUTs like filmconvert and visioncolor impulz which generally give great results and help get rid of that Panasonic greenish yellow look. Cinelike D with ettr to 90-95 zebras gives me the best highlight rolloff on every Panasonic body I've used it with at the expense of some noise. gonna try -2 saturation the next time I shoot with it. I've been shooting with everything at default except -5 sharpness and -5 noise reduction since tampering with those color & contrast settings seem to wreck havoc with cinelike d. Exposing cinelike d properly probably has more of an impact on the image than the saturation settings
-
I say expose for 90 - 95% zebras. That upper range of cinelike d is tricky. The highlight roll off color channel clipping in the 90-100 range is so sudden and ugly

@dbp @mercer if they upgraded the gh2 sensor & removed the aa filter it would be gold. That plus a magnesium body they could get rid of the 4K idc. Supersampled 1080 from a 12-16 mp sensor would be incredible
-
Dude I was looking up videos from the bolex anamorphic & ran into a guy using it with a hacked (flowmotion) gh2. I felt incredibly stupid about wanting to "upgrade" my camera body. 1080p from a hacked gh2 STILL looks on par with some of these "4k" cameras which is crazy to me. Color depth, dynamic range and the rendering of the lens is more important to me than 4K. Someone mentioned it earlier 4K is just new tech for manufacturers to capitalize off of. They no longer are racing to get the cleanest supersampled 1080, they are more interested in low bit rate 4k just to turn a profit
-
I for one don't really care for 4k outside of the relatively clean image it brings you when downscaling to 1080. I think companies like youtube should work on providing better 1080p + compression at higher bitrates vs. pushing for 4K streaming and neglecting everything else. I can see 4k being important for someone who shoots for a theatrical release but for someone like me who shoots for the web and hopefully for a content distribution network like netflix (one day fingers crossed lol) a good 1080 deliverable is what I need

@mercer I do miss the short focus throw of the ais lenses. They're great for any type of photojournalism / run & gun video. A slight turn can give you really cinematic looking focus pulls handheld. I do prefer the build quality and scalloped rings of the pre ai lenses though. I also see the benefits of having lenses with less elements, they look better imo
-
@mercer I got the 105mm f2.5 , 50mm f1.4 (s version),35mm f2 (single coated version), 28mm f3.5 (h version), 24mm f2.8 & 85mm f1.8 I love the rendering of these lenses, the low element design really shows in their subject separation. The apsh crop with the speedbooster xl makes them a dream for stills ! Im gonna check out the nikkor c mount lenses, they sound promising
-
@PannySVHS thanks man ! These were with the nikkor ais 35mm f1.4 and 85mm f2. Very cinematic in portrait mode with default settings & -3 sharpness. I sold these lenses and got a set of pre ai nikkors that have better rendering and build quality imo
-
@PannySVHS I've been on google today searching for the fastest c-mount lenses 25mm and above to ensure they cover the image circle. The zeiss tevidon's were kinda expensive on ebay im not sure if they were worth the prices I seen earlier Nikkor 24mm F2.8 pre ai Nikkor 50mm f1.4 pre ai
-
@PannySVHS @mercer if i knew more about the zeiss tevidon glass & c mounts I wouldve invested in a full set instead of speedbooster xl & nikkor glass. Definitely relieved to here they'll work fine with ibis. The softness in the corners & spiral bokeh of s16 lenses on m43 reminds me of the optical traits that attracted me to the helios 44-2 on full frame
-
@mercer i totally forgot about the sensor blackout during IBIS with these lenses that barely cover the sensor ! I guess these super 16 lenses would be better served on a BMPCC. Have you tried shooting with the Panasonic G80 ? Its a really good camera with adapted lenses. I hate the look of panasonic bodies with lumix lenses. Im actually going to sell my 20mm f1.7 pancake
-
@mercer do you think it will render the full imaging circle on lets say a gh5 or g7 ?
