I prefer not to use AF for video like many other people, does that mean I am "living in the 60s" ? You know what...this is not even worth the back and forth. Good luck man
-
Understandable but...the camera af and you as the actual camera operator pulling focus looks and feels worlds apart from each other. I use AF to lock focus on a static shot which is very useful but still looks and feels far different from manually focusing ??♂️
-
holy shit that was childish. LOL My God that was a childish response. anyway. I can only speak for myself here but AF isn't a deal breaker for me and it doesn't make you more or less of a "real filmmaker". Have I shot with AF ? HELL YES ! Do I rely on it ? Absolutely not because focus is an aesthetic choice...for me at least. I don't need the camera determining that for me automatically. Anyway definitely gonna go look for that Soviet camera , 150 usd is a steal !

Bingo

@jonpais looks really good ??

I certainly wouldn't buy another piece of Samsung gear idc how crazy the specs are. They have completely lost my trust
-
@Tim Sewell there definitely is an implied message but I like leaving things open for intepretation ??

I have the 85mm f2 ais. I like it for its compactness, it looks great
-
exactly ! They are appealing to their old audience and the nostalgic kids. Im personally into more innovative designs like what we have seen in the Panasonic bodies and the dead NX1.
-
I think they truly believe that cult like following is going to keep them afloat ! I truly believe these camera companies need to maintain a competitive mentality and lose the cult ideology ! make the tools more accessible
-
the price for these cameras are high as hell ! Technology is at the point where they can no longer justify those prices for reasons other than maintaining insane profits. One of these companies will buck the trend and start pumping out cheaper alternatives or we are going to see some kickstarter brand make something revolutionary and dethrone them. Anyway im rooting for fuji as well ! If they ditch xtrans and put ibis in their bodies they have a winner on their hands !
-
@Juxx989 false hope and uncomfirmed rumors is why I hate forums sometimes man lol. NX2 aint happening & I doubt camera stores will even buy it after Samsungs silent pull out of the camera market.
-
@andy lee agreed ! full frame is very overrated for video. I personally prefer the look of super 16mm and super 35mm over full frame. Hopefully this fuji camera has IBIS !!!
-
Dont hold your breath for an NX2.

@jonpais i am not saying motion blur is not a factor. You will get motion blur at certain shutter speeds that is a given. In camera sharpness algorithms "lock on" to shots without the blur. If the in camera sharpness is up to high or if the manufacturer applies to much at default settings we see huge jumps in detail on these frames without blur. I used to have to turn down my detail settings to -5 on my a7s because the in camera sharpness was distracting on motion shots even with its 1080p output. This could be the case here, either way that is not a deal breaker for me being that I barely shoot at slow shutter speeds
-
Or it could be the in camera sharpening algorithim kicking in. The sony a7s was notorious for that jump in detail when you have the in camera sharpness turned up
-
Bingo ! Agreed ! Idk why panasonic insists on these plastic lenses ! I am either leaning towards the leica branded 15mm f1.7 & 42.5 f1.2 or 25mm f1.4 & 12mm f1.4
-
Damn well I pray my clients never notice the smearing of those 2 pixels. That would suck
-
Thats the point im making, in real life these little nuiances don't matter and are unnoticeable Unless you shoot charts like you just said.its almost like how most people can't see the difference between 4K footage and 4K footage downscaled to 1080. In theory there is a world of difference but in application that is far from reality @jonpais very interesting topic nonetheless, im going to put it to the test today
-
I've experienced something similar when I use the exposure slider ! now I use filmconvert to adjust exposure instead
-
@jonpais the image was unusable ?
-
It seems we are focusing on motion blur and only motion blur here and thats why I mentioned if this resolution reduction even happens at higher shutter speeds. It is obvious that one will not see certain details if motion blur is present in the image and you are waving the camera around like a mad man which I think none of us do (especially with cameras afflicted with heavy rolling shutter). Even the verbage of this interview sounds like its a theory ARRI and only ARRI has come up with to justify their venture into HFR technology. I want to know in your experience when have you encountered a situation where you can visibly see a difference between 4k and 1080p due to handheld movement http://www.43rumors.com/olympus-interview-at-focus-numerique-says-8k-and-handheld-high-rez-mode-are-coming-on-future-mft-cameras/

@Matt Holder don't get me wrong I didn't take it personal im just saying don't let aesthetic choice (hand held or locked off shot) be a guideline for the camera operators level of experience and professionalism. We can be very technically biased these days lets not forget the artsy side of this !
-
@Matt Holder Lack of training ? idk about all that. I think its an aesthetic choice...using a tripod doesn't make your work any more professional than the amateur using the same form of stabilization. all handheld
