@Geoff CB true. Well I just bought the 40mm ultron and the slr magic anamorphot 2x. Hope the combo works out especially with rangefinder attachment
-
MJPG and no noise reduction pleaaaaase ! Would be the most benefitial to the system imo
-
Good idea. +1
-
A way to test NR you say ?? Hmmm need a guinea pig ? @outerbeat
-
You ever use the 40mm & slr magic combo with the new anamorphot single focus thingie ? Interested in picking up the anamorpjot again @Geoff CB
-
@sandro nx1 video is terrible in low light ! I hate going above 800
-
Im PRAYING we find a way to disable nr. I feel like the true image enhancements of the higher bitrates will come to light the day this does happen. Maybe the secret lies with how the camera processes the image with DIS active or DCI 4k ? Ive been shooting in the DCI mode and noticed less sharpening artifacts. I guess the sensor doesnt need to downscale as much so the image is softer. Idk just a hunch btw the image looks phenomenal in DCI. Truly organic

Thanks for the info ! Looks like i'll be sticking with cine4 if I pick up the camera. 4k is very important to me so the bitrate was my main concern, thanks for clearing that up for me !
-
@Mattias Burling I can live with that. 4k full frame rendering with no macroblocking is A-Okay by me
-
@Shield3 I guess we may never see pro's shoot with the nx1 but I dont care its just a tool. Just didn't agree with you that AF was that important...especially in video
-
Damn that sucks ! How about in the cine gamma modes ? I don't care much for slog, just want 4k without the macroblocking @Mattias Burling
-
I really think its the design of zoom lenses period. Maybe there is a delay in light passing through the lens when you change the focal length ? Idk but I am seeing it with my 18-35. Doesn't matter to me because I lock down my exposure before I hit record after I seen the same issue with my sigma
-
is the a7sii bitrate in 4k high enough or is it prone to macroblocking ?
-
yyeah as long as you don't go too low. you don't want the imaging process to boost the saturation too much but you need it low enough that you wont clip color channels or completely desaturate areas of low saturation. I came up with some nice settings for all the nx1 profiles except gamma dr
-
@mercer your definitely right, "different roads to the same destination". We are all trying to come up with settings to optimize our workflow but you gotta admit certain cameras respond to adjustments like the master pedestal differently. I started noticing I have to jack my MP to +15 to prevent it from hard clipping shadow detail. That plus negative saturation and high bitrate hack allows me to squeeze a lot of detail into the 11 stop DR especially when underexposing. I have a complete different method if I am shooting with an a7s (thinking about getting the a7sii for the full frame 4k btw) or a GH4 etc. etc. one rule has been universal though : lower your saturation enough to prevent color channel clipping
-
with the gh4 I got away with lower contrast BUT I used the shadow and highlights feature to create an s-curve. I think the contrast dial on these cameras just destroy midtones if you go too far. It's like they inverse the s curve at the expense of midtone accuracy so you end up with plastic looking skin and weird saturation. This is DEFINITELY the case in the nx1. I pretty much leave my saturation alone and jack up the master pedestal to get raised shadows and keep my midtones looking nice. its better on compression as well @mercer my gh4 natural settings were -5 sharpness, -4 contrast, -1 saturation, -5 nr -2 shadows and +1 highlights
-
Exactly. As long as you lower it enough where the color looks realistic and not oversaturated like the TV's on a best buy display you're good. Point is to keep color channels from clipping and also exaggerating chrominance noise like many cameras tend to do @BrorSvensson oh & like @Mattias Burling said, leave the contrast alone !
-
Could be ! Could also be why we get the awful shifts in color when we use custom white balance @Cinegain
-
I have no clue whats going on. I am not accustomed to zoom lenses so idk if this is an nx1 issue or just something that happens cause of the design of zoom lenses vs primes @NX1user
-
@Geoff CB voigt makes some damn good lenses
-
Yeah higher bitrate fixes it. Im working on in camera settings that will further take advantage of the higher bitrates
-
I get the same with the sigma 18-35 but i'll take your 16-50 off your hands lol @JS

I've been debating picking up a sony a7sii as a second camera to my nx1 to preserve the look out of my full frame lenses. I do not care for shooting at ridiculous ISO's but the ability to shoot at 3200 comfortably would be a life saver for shooting indoors and night scenes. what are your experiences with the a7sii ? Is the blue channel clipping still a problem ? Is 100 mbps enough for 4k or is there heavy macroblocking ? All I am missing from the nx1 is the ability to shoot at 3200,moire free 1080 60p and the full frame look of my lenses. Is t he a7sii worth picking up ?

My camera locks up alot with version 1.54 of the kino seed hack. Sucks cuz I gotta take the battery grip off and take all the batteries out. Otherwise the hack works flawlessly. Occasionally however i'll get clips with dropped frames or missing audio. Looking for the sweet spot that gives your footage the advantage of higher bitrates minus the insane file sizes and computing power required to edit the footage. Im thinking maybe 160 mbps maybe the ideal compromise. All we need to do now is get rid of the noise reduction and the hack will be even more beneficial

@bristo thank you !
