200mbps with the asahi super takumar 50mm f1.4
-
does anyone have a link to the latest version of the kino seed hack ? btw 200mbps seems to be the ceiling for this camera and I am fine with it. 200mbps looks fantastic and is completely changing my opinions of the camera and even my workflow. 200mbps is an absolute nightmare to edit and I recommend those struggling to run those files on their system to transcode to something like dnxhd 422 and edit those. Some may not see a benefit because the rendering of the image is relatively the same in terms of image processing but upon closer inspection I can not find any macroblocking even shooting handheld in high motion scenes. Detail is preserved in each frame minus the smudging, artifacting and macroblocking people encountered when grading the footage, converting to a LOG color space etc. when uploading footage to vimeo (especially pro account users) I recommend exporting to cineform. It preserves a lot of detail thought i'd share

I either transcode my h.265 to 1080p 422 dnxhd or I edit the raw h.265 files and export it to cineform. I'll try exporting to dnxhd like @SMGJohn mentioned cause a 3 minute file with cineform is like 5 gb at its film scan quality. Vimeo has given me the best image thus far with cineform though, preserves grain and all

@caseywilsondp i'll try those out and see what I get with it. So far I prefer the image with negative saturation cause it gives me better results in post when I use LUT's. It keeps the colors from clipping which is awesome, skintones end up looking better as a result. The problem I am running into is there seems to be blacks that are deeper than 0 ire (?) being recorded and it ends up looking horribly clipped. I either need to raise the MP to like 8 or use your method and use -5 contrast. I just hate how the colors look out of cam with - contrast. Hopefully its fixable in post

@j.f.r. has the a7r2 ever over heated on you ? That camera is looking more and more interesting everyday, especially considering the resolution you get on the photography side
-
damn dude sorry to hear that. Either way the voigtlander is exceptional and you can see it here. Glad you like it, its a really dope lens @Cinegain thank you !
-
the contrast of the pentax looks sooooo good. It definitely has a signature look when it comes to rendering. The bokeh is ridiculous too, wish I grabbed some shots of that

Been playing around with the Asahi Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 lately. It has a classic rendering to it and its super sharp. These are stills from the hacked nx1 at 200mbps h265 downscaled from 4k to 1080 I like the look of the batis lenses. Too bad they are only emount
-
Very true but thats IF you get a good copy. Their quality of control is unbelievably crappy. I've had good luck with their wides like the 10mm. Solid lenses

Canon 1D X Mark II high ISO and colour performance worse than predecessor

Im hoping this makes some fool list his 1dc for like $2000 on ebay so I can jump on that opportunity. Im hoping and praying LOL -
Am I the only one that keeps contrast at 0 and use negative saturation instead ?
-
@Oliver Daniel agreed. I have a 50mm & 85mm takumar. I love how they look especially in black and white ! The helios 44 is so cheap I may get one on ebay if I can. @TheRenaissanceMan thats exactly the look im going for. Definitely has an organic feel to the footage, reminds me of movies in the 80s. I've settled on getting the two lenses you mentioned
-
@The Chris it happens bro. Modern lenses can be so contrasty you can lose an entire stop in DR. Happens with the zeiss glass I own now. I HAVE to throw on a diffusion filter to compensate for that. Lower contrast lenses are better for 8bit and I assume modern contrasty lenses were built with raw and 10bit log in mind
-
@Geoff CB I like your anamorphic footage, looks real good on the nx1
-
@Parker do you have any links to your NX1 footage with the contax lenses ? thats what I will be using them with. @TheRenaissanceMan thx ! Gonna look deeper into the contax survival guide. Russian glass is cool I just hate having to order from Russia on ebay, had some bad experiences with that lol.
-
how do you feel about the 20mm f2.8 ais in comparison the 28mm 2.8 ais ? @M Carter and have you ever used contax zeiss glass ?
-
right now I am torn between nikkor and contax zeiss. Since I do not want to get in the habit of buying hella lenses I won't use I am torn between getting the Contax Zeiss 28mm f2 and 50mm f1.4 and how I can use nikkor 20mm f2.8 ais, nikkor 55mm f1.2
-
@homestar_kevin I'm definitely considering going back to nikkor especially since the 200mbps hack for nx1. @AaronChicago when I had the 28mm 2.8 it was so sharp stopped down that it created macroblocking in a lot of scenes. I shouldn't have that issue anymore if I chose to go back to it. AIS has a lot of gems in their lineup

slog works great on the a7s overexposed 1-2 stops when using filmconvert, the gh4 & nx1 is nice too ! Whatever you choose I hope it all works out for you dude @jase . cant wait to see your rx100 footage
