@Herb @AaronL normal gamma : standard contrast : 0 saturation : -4 sharpness : -10 (can go to -5 in certain situations) hue : -9 master pedestal : 8 (will try 15) Luma range : 0-255 I'm writing a guide with all my settings. This one is very experimental but I like it :-)

yeah dude ! and the file sizes are still so low ! Guess they didn't want us to take our business elsewhere hahaha @TheRenaissanceMan

Is it just me or is vimeo's videos actually good again ? Recently they updated the platform to use adaptive streaming and chaos broke loose. The quality sucked even when using prores which gave people like me the green light to send vimeo a bunch of nasty emails, threats etc. (just kidding) They've seemed to have gotten their act together as I've noticed better image quality across the board even when using film grain. Since then I have reuploaded some of my videos and they look way better UPDATE : exporting to Prores proxy & Cineform gives the best results. Huge file sizes from cineform but the pay off is worth it.

I think you may be seeing the effects of the tiffen pro mist I had on the lens
-
Maybe i'll pick one up if we get a gh4 hack ? Lol
-
@Ivanhurba good point !
-
I liked the slow mo from the sony a7s, especially with shallow dof
-
I am really happy for Sony. We need more competitors...we seen what happened when Nikon and Canon were the primary cam companies. They got lazy ! I still feel like Sony has good tech but they are just....missing something from the A7 series which is overhyped imo. I rather them bring back the pro bodies from the sony alpha line like the sony a99 but with some solid video features. Another thing about Sony is that they are overpriced but...people are buying it so I guess it doesn't matter how expensive their stuff are. Really wish Panasonic and Fuji step their game up as well

@mercer its the worst performing one wide open but you can sharpen in post. The fringing is unavoidable though
-
@outerbeat that makes perfect sense ! I probably should reinstall your mod and aim for 180 since I primarily shoot handheld. Have you tested the bitrate limit for 1080 60p ?
-
Currently I am still using the nx-bitrate-v3 hack at 160mbps. Beautiful image at these high bitrates I can only imagine what you guys are getting at 200 mbps ! I was able to record at 200 mbps for like 4 seconds but ultimately stability is what I am after so 160 is good enough for me. At what point does the bitrate stop benefiting the image as far as motion cadence and macroblocking is concerned ? I am also curious to see how the camera handles scenes with -5 to 0 sharpening with these high bitrates. I really feel like the sharpnening algorithim somehow plays a role in the noise reduction algorithim. Anyone willing to help test my theory out ? All you have to do is shoot with -5 sharpening and beyond

I was active duty military lol @Jonesy Jones just finished my contract in march Anyway man if you are looking for a body that has both high res video and photo I would say get an nx1. Im sure they have some going for cheap on ebay
-
Wow ! Super detailed, look at the smoke !
-
???? Idk about that. Marines are a branch of the Navy and the Navy uses Nikon. I assume the entire military uses Nikon's. i have never seen a branch in the military use Canon as the official equipment.
-
I've shot for the military for a couple of years and the last thing they care about is DR. Any camera made in the new millenium with 10+ stops is capable of taking good pictures. Plus consumers dont care about any of that stuff anyway imo. Oh and the US military only use Nikon's....I even seen a d90 being put to use at one point in time lol. Anyway the GH4 is more than capable of taking good still photos especially if your work will only be displayed on the web. @Mattias Burling
-
@sandro not for me but you never know until you test it out. Im not talking about the hack with the gui btw
-
@Mattias Burling idk, I had a GH4 with the voigtlander 17.5,25 & 42.5 and the photos were damn good imo when shot using RAW of course
-
I like all these ideas being shared here. You never know maybe it will inspire an NX2 hahahah
-
@wolf33d a con of the GH4 is the photography ? Wtf ? Completely disagree
-
cineform fixed all my problems
-
I'd just get a gh3,gh4 or g7 with some m42 mount lenses and have a cheap lightweight kit. You can even use an nx1 and adapt lenses to that as well. Or you can get an a7s off of ebay and mount your current lens collection on it
-
@mercer those lenses will probably look SICK on the g7 ! I loved how close they focus. It made it so easy to get shallow dof in my narratives. Cant wait to see what you do with em !
-
damn dude ! I just use the nx-bitrate-v3 one with double the bitrates. 160mbps with my sandisk extreme 64gb card works fine. 190-200 mbps is cool but by the time you hit 140-160 that's more than reasonable imo. I do a lot of run and gun as well and I noticed the freezing. I can't afford that on a paid gig. The client will certainly have my head on their wall if I missed valuable footage cause my cam kept locking up
-
@Marco Tecno you got the link ? I wanna try it out now !
-
@Marco Tecno whats the difference ?? is it more stable ? I'm currently using the bitrate v3 hack. The one without the gui cause the loss of use over the exposure button is not worth it to me. But 200 mbps is sure nice
