Right now I am using standard gamma with -10 sharpness -2 saturation and -9 hue and tiffen black satin for diffusion. The diffusion looks really organic but I am gonna test without any filtration in front of the lens and see what that does for me in terms of resolution the hue shift gives it real "analog" looking colors. There is a shift in blue towards cyan and skin tones are more reddish pink instead of the greenish yellows you get from sony bodies. I really like it so far but I have to test using lower saturation settings. The aim is to get saturation low enough so bright colors dont clip and exceed the color gamut but not so low that lightly saturated areas look greyed out. Coming very close to the ideal image suitable for post work without totally flatenning the image and destroying its tonality. I do need help testing the cameras dynamic range using different luma ranges. Strangely enough 16-235 seems to give me way more DR than 0-255. It's very obvious even when exposing in camera

thank you ! Im really impresed with the camera with these new settings. Next ill try to shoot without the diffusion filtration and see what happens

new shots from the nx1 with some custom settings I am trying out using the standard picture profile

More from the zeiss milvus 50mm f1.4 & zeiss milvus 35mm f2 on the samsung nx1
-
yup I'm willing to deal with big file sizes for better bit rates & compression. Its time to really take advantage of the nx1's unique sensor
-
I never worked with MJPEG but you are making a lot of sense. The HEVC codec is so demanding on the system. Hopefully we can get high quality files with minimum processing out of the mjpeg as well
-
I think the low light issue can be solved if we figure out how to turn off most of the in camera processing. I think the samsung adaptive noise reduction is the reason to blame for the drop off in performance at 3200
-
True. At least all it would take to enjoy these higher bitrates is to buy these cards which will most certainly get cheaper

Unfortunately I have never shot with these lenses even though I hear great things about em. I hear they are similar to the zeiss superspeeds so they should be good to go. Hopefully the rear coating doesn't reflect off of the nx1 sensor. If you have a set of contax zeiss lenses I guess it wouldn't hurt to put em to the test on the samsung body

@Pavel D Prichystal correct I have run into tons of artifacts when using vintage lenses on the camera. I feel as if the camera intensifies its video processing when vintage lenses are used. You will run into oversharpening of low resolution areas and sometimes sever macroblocking. I have no clue why this is happening as vintage lenses worked great on my sony a7s and gh4. Stopped down of course they perform better but I tend to shoot wide open being that the camera is limited to 1600 for high quality video. I suspect it has something to do with downscaling from the 6k sensor. Ever since I put extremely high resolving glass from zeiss I have not encountered these problems even with diffusion filters placed on the lens. Some people have other experiences with the camera so take my findings with a grain of salt Black and white look created with the classic picture style and curves in post

@Mattias Burling LOL damn ! Any specific reason why or is the image quality just that much better ?
-
how do you like the 5d mark 3 raw especially in comparison to your nx1 ?
-
Makes sense @Ebrahim Saadawi , ill try it out

I did it in camera with the nx1's classic picture style. I like it, seems to have a heavy yellow filter in it and looks awesome on skin. In post I used noise reduction, added a curve & slightly warmed the color temperature. As for lighting it was regular fluorescent lighting but the tiffen black satin really evened things out in terms of contrast. LOVE THIS LOOK (I also didn't use grain on this one just for better compression)
-
?hahaha yeah its with the nx1

I'm using zeiss milvus glass and the gain in resolution is evident from the time I put it on
-
Zeiss Milvus 21mm f2.8 , Zeiss Milvus 85mm f1.4
-
That's good to know, im thinking of picking up a gh4 with the .64 speedbooster

Dope ! Looks pretty balanced on the small a7s body. The styling fits it too
-
It was vivid with -10 sharpness & -5saturation ! Im working on some better settings ! Will post soon

? LOL he was trying to make out with those girls, kids totally braver than I am haha. The zeiss lenses are ridiculously sharp, once again they produce true resolution. I can use noise reduction in stills and not have to worrying about sharpening the image and potential grain along with it. I personally like using diffusion cause of how it affects lighting but without these filters you can see every pore its crazy

Nah i didnt use any stabilization. These are just a couple of shots i took trying to figure out the limits of the camerA
