shot with the hdtv/fx filter https://vimeo.com/42498624 this is some very very early work for me. I was so young In the game learning cinematography and grading lol

nah...its legit noise reduction and excessive luminance channel sharpening to mask it. You can tell even in the raw stills what the camera is truly capable of and when grain starts appearing stills vs. video. I can downsample a 16:9 still at 28mp and downsize it to 8mp like 4k and you can tell nr is applied to the video. Test it yourself

will try exporting in dnxhd. Any reccommended settings for dnxhd ? Necer exported in that format before. I am using the new premiere btw
-
increased bitrate is the #1 thing. It should help minimize or even eliminate macroblocking in the shadows and 1080p video. 2nd on the list of priorities is total removal of the in camera sharpness algorithim and last but not least 0 noise reduction

yeah man thats been my issue for a while now ! Sometimes it works most times it doesn't ! I need grain to put Im going to try upscaling and sharpening the grain and see if that helps. I know for a fact exporting to prores proxy helps big time but im using a windows PC so the prores option is ruled out. Cineform is an alternative. Have you ever exported to cineform ?

im working on something a bit more plausible than a hack rn. Should hold us over till we find a programmer. Stay tuned :-D
-
sounds promising ! Definitely gonna try that out ! What would be the appropriate dimensions for a 1920x1080 file when upscaling for vimeo/youtube compression ? Also do you think upscaling to 4k will help ?
-
let me know how it works out for you
-
LOL just might ! Im going for a hyper realistic look with my work now. Hope i get the look im going for with these lenses

If you have seen my work it is probably no secret that I love film grain. The problem with grain is the fact that youtube & vimeo doesn't love it as much as we do. Adding grain to video can have some ugly results when uploading to the web. Still to me adding grain is a vital step in removing the unpleasant lack of texture from cameras who apply heavy noise reduction in their processing pipeline. In the past I have used Filmconvert and gorilla grain and have gotten great results but the end result is terrible when I upload to vimeo. Does anyone else use film grain in their videos ? Does it survive web compression ? What is your favorite brand of film grain and more importantly what is your technique when applying it to your footage ?

Good to know ! believe me I love vintage lenses but I am giving lenses designed for modern sensors a spin. Digital sensors and film are completely different by design and we have to account for that. If i wasnt shooting an nx1 i'd def try the contax glass

actually bought the 35mm f2 and 50mm f1.4 milvus ! Waiting for it to come in the mail. Had to make sure it has no issues adapting to Canon as I might get the 5d mark iii as a second camera or go all out and get the 21mm and 85mm milvus
-
nx system is dead bro lol what a way to go out though. Nx1 is killer
-
good cause if im gonna invest in a lens I want it to be as adaptable as possible

Do Nikon lenses on Canon bodies reach infinity focus ?
-
gotcha i'll look

Would be nice to have this in a potential hack. Found this info here http://www.migueldeolaso.com/press/2015/5/24/samsung-nx1-4k-mirrorless-camera-test sounds promising. How can we contact the guy who posted this stuff ? Im confused as hell trying to navigate this site !

yeah I get you ! I was convinced it was edge artifacts from the sensor and it was pissing me off ! My only solution right now is to use a light amount of the super 16mm sized grain on filmconvert. They add some sort of gaussian blur to the image and it looks nice to me. Im gonna use it with high contrast images though because low contrast and low resolution looks much worse than high contrast and low resolution. Sucks thats the selling point of the nx1 is the resolution but the screens we view it cant keep up. Confirms my theory that it was designed with their 4k tv's in mind. Im still looking forward to the massive resolution gain im gonna get when my zeiss milvus lenses get here

This is really picking up steam ! Lets keep it going guys ! Im currently searching for a linux programmer
-
hopefully Andrew Reid gets behind this. Im sure people will respond to a post on his site regarding taking a shot at hacking the camera, especially if its crowdfunded
-
so if we find a good linux programmer then we are golden ! I assume All they will really have to do is like change some command line inputs
-
is the OS linux based ? That makes things easier. Plenty of linux gurus out there
-
Totally was user error about the moire . I wasn't viewing the footage at 100% and the rendered video was shown on my iPhone. Damn camera has so much resolution if not viewed 1:1 it looks like moire. Wow
-
great idea !!!! Totally makes sense. It pretty much would just improve whats already there
