  1. im starting to think its just more people trying to create hysteria
  2. In case anyone was looking for those batteries for the NX1 that vanished off the face of the earth overnight
  3. sorry for the confusion. My concern wasn't with LOG profiles. I refuse to use them and in the event I have to I never alter the curve. The last part of your statement was very interesting regarding Technicolor Cinestyle and their reasoning behind raising the black point. I feel like h.265 has even heavier compression than the h.264 codec resulting in macroblocking in the shadows. I will take a page out of technicolors book and try raising the pedestal to trick the camera into prioritizing other areas in the image other than deep shadows
  4. you are right about the sharpness. Idk if it's cause of the debayering from 6.5k or in camera sharpness but I needed a max grade diffusion filter to cut down sharpness
  5. maybe that will work, hopefully it doesn't cause a disaster in my NLE any experience with it on the nx1 ? Im not using it to get a look on set, im using it to fight macroblocking in the shadows
  6. same here. I started looking into it after I found out technicolor cinestyle is 16-255 and when I heard someone say the data in the 16 and under range of 0-255 is useless. I figure maybe if that range isn't recorded more date would be recorded elsewhere and that can alleviate h.264 & h.265 macro blocking issues
  7. I haven't had time to do any scientific tests of my own but I hear some filmmakers get good results by adjusting the master pedestal on compressed 8bit cameras like the GH4 and NX1 1) some say you get more dynamic range. This is false and speaking with visioncolor via fb they have advised against it. They as well as others say you lose data in the 0-255 range and it can introduce banding 2) some say it's merely to get the camera compression to prioritize the mids over the deep shadows. Im interested in #2. Has anyone experienced better internal compression when raising the master pedestal ?
  8. wait so if you use a hybrid camera you are NOT serious about film ? Oh.
  9. It is HORRIBLE ! I really believe edge diffusion will alleviate the issue. The camera IS applying sharpening which is creating the strobing effect. It is less noticeable on locked down shots
  10. Found a potential explanation and solution. Its been an issue since the gh2 http://www.personal-view.com/talks/discussion/526/gh2-stutterjudderstrobe-issues-discussion/p5
  11. fck ALL of those "journalists". Makes no sense because as a journalist wouldn't you be able to cover broadcast ready news stories without the need of a crew ? I am lost
  12. thank you ! Last but not least on a typical shoot how many and what capacity cards do you usually use
  13. smh sounds about right. No one is objectively analyzing feedback on prior existing cameras and listening to the many filmmaking communities such as this one. Hell I don't even think they analyze what their competition is doing or taking time to look at the rise of companies like blackmagic and even crowdfunded cameras. I think in Nikon's head there isn't even any competition. Their once rival Canon has a cinema line and in their head that's fine, Nikon doesn't need a cinema line. I think they truly believe that the name sells itself (which it does because of brand loyalty) and any decline of sales is because less people want camera's which certainly isn't true. These old dogs like Nikon will be put down sooner than they think...
  14. Some engineer at some Nikon meeting continually convinces them that crippling their video capabilities for the hell of it is the key to selling cameras
  15. Are there any apps to convert the 5dmarkiii raw files on windows ? i remember there being an app by rarevision for mac os x
  16. agreed, nikkor lenses render BEAUTIFULLY on the nx1 sensor
  17. i think the cure could be to blur out fine details with a edge based diffusion filter. It worked for the Gh2 and helped it compress details better maybe it could help the nx1. Shallow dof in slow mo gives the nx1 way better compression at all iso's...because there are less details to compress
  18. Im interested in the 5D mark iii but im not trying to pay over $2,000 for it. Fuck that. If I have to go over 2k i'll hunt for a 1dc
  19. praying I could find a 1dc or 5d mark iii at half price ! Hoping and PRAYING lol

I own the 28mm f2.8 and it's been such a great balance between a modern and vintage look that I just had to buy a nikkor ais set. I hear the contax lens design is similar to the zeiss superspeeds which sounds VERY promising

yeah dude I have no clue when FD lenses got so popular but I keep seeing the prices for em going up and up on ebay. Those Xeen lenses look sexy !
  22. felt that way about the NX1 even though I got it late as hell. Had to wait for the h.265 support. You're really rolling the dice buying brand new cameras these days. I see why some organizations (like the military) only use whats proven in the field and never whats new

my fd's look great but my nikkors look better on the samsung. The Samsung sensor seems to be more picky than other sensors :-( don't get me wrong they are totally usable but it doesn't make sense keeping them if I have the same focal length nikkors rendering a better image to my eye
